Moving Betty Across The Country, Help.

I am pretty sure I will be getting orders in the near future to Albany GA. I have a big issue at hand.

I have a Dodge CTD, Jeep WJ, Shelby Charger, Betty, and a Camper. The government will not pay for me to ship a vehicle. I do not want to let any of them go. The CTD tows the camper and the WJ tows the Charger. That leaves me with moving the MJ. I am really close to finishing her but all the parts I need will bleed me dry.

Betty is in no shape to drive. I really can't even load it on a semi to ship it. I was wondering if buying a trailer, tossing it on there, and doing a hand off from member to member is possible?

It can take as long as needed to get her there I just want to make sure I am not forced to let her go again.

If the route takes Betty through KS, along I70, I could help tug a trailer across the state.

Could you dolly or flat tow it behind the camper behind the CTD?

Yeah. that. Some states allow 3 unit tow. Some don't. I would hook up a tow dolly behind the camper.

what's the cost to ship a truck cross country?

I got some quotes when a member from the East Coast was considering buying my 88. Estimates ranged from $800-$1300 but I don't think this is an option for shelbyluv. The haulers need to drive the vehicle onto the ramps and then off again when they unload or reposition the vehicles. There could be other types of haulers that can transport but I would think they may be more expensive.

I just saw your post about the cost.

I'm storing a CJ project for a guy from California whom I've never met other than on the forum, but he got stationed in Japan for three years. I donated a covered shed and am happy to help out our servicemen and women. We did a member to member handoff as you suggested, and I met the final leg driver in El Paso and trailered the rig 200 miles more East to my house where it is stored for the duration.

So, it is certainly possible to get your Comanche to your new home. Count me in for the West Texas leg if needed.

how much would gas be to tow it to georgia? might not be that bad of a deal to have it shipped. especially since the fire bucket method would almost double the fuel costs since each member would still have to drive back home after the handoff to the next guy.

Have you tried soliciting bids on UShip? Sometimes a hauler will ship a vehicle super cheap because he's got a trip already scheduled in your timeframe close to your p/u and drop-off points and needs to fill space or will haul it behind his truck. I've done this quite a few times with bikes. Can't hurt to get some bids.............

My PUP is over 20'. It is a Starcraft 13 RT. It is a big trailer.

Uship was the reason I sold Onyx. They wanted $1500 to ship it and they wanted me to pick it up in Phoenix.

A 30' tandem trailer is over $5000.

I am hoping to be out of here in June.

I am working with Jay. I might have her shipped and dropped at Jay's place until I get there.

The idea of dropping $5000 on a trailer and hoping I can sale it later does not sit well with me. I hate moving with out a few extra dollers in the account to cover mechanical issues should one arise.

I have got a few quotes to have her shipped. Not running is about $1200. It is almost worth it to me at this point.

I don't want you to leave, but I'll help you any way I can. :)

I could borrow Cal's truck and drive the MJ/trailer as far as maybe Phoenix. Or as mnkyboy suggested, I'd be willing to drive the Charger all the way to GA, then fly back on my own dime.

? for you....what all is left to get her driveable?

Is there a member in your area that could store it while you get $$$ for the parts to finish it to driving, then you fly back out, have a meet and greet/pow wow, and drive it cross country back home, along routes where you can get help from members if the need arises.

I would happily help you out if you were local to me.
