-The factory ones?
-So, no brace at all? Just the drop brackets?
Yes, the factory ones that are discussed in the link you provided.
And yes, no brace, just the drop brackets. Of course, results may vary, but I had no problems.
The RE braces won't work unless you trim down the LCA mounts. I ran some Trailmaster drop brackets (identical to RE) with the RE braces on my XJ. Then I swapped the drop brackets over to my MJ without the braces. And never had any issues. Ran the Rubicon Trail, all over Moab, and local trails for five years with these brackets.
I have the older flares on newer fenders. I'll post a pic when I get home tonight. Most of the holes in the old brackets line up with the holes in the fenders. I think I just had to drill 1-2 extra holes.
It's not hard if you know what you're doing. :) And since I don't, I pay people to do it. It requires special knowledge and tools.
Figure a couple hundred for a new R&P, a hundred for a master rebuild kit, which will have all the necessary bearings and seals. And I have friends that help me with the labor for another hundred.
If you have to take it to a shop, they'll probably charge you $300+.
But the lower shock mounts are on the spring plates. So if you're staying SUA, the shocks would mount up just the same as before. You could just cut the shock mounts off the 8.25.
