He will be greatly missed here on CC as well as other Jeep forums. I have always relied on his advise for my Renix MJ. Hopefully, his wealth of knowledge and information can live on for everyone. (He and Hornbrod can continue their "debate" about which is better, Renix or HO.)

Clutch changed now truck won't run
87MJTIM replied to OkayishOffroad's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My 2¢ Did you replace or fiddle with the clutch hose from the master to slave/throw out? If so, did you (accidentally) mess with the ballast resistor wiring?. Your symptoms sounds like its fuel related: starts, runs for 30 seconds, then dies. -
Electric Fan spins intermittently

It should run with ac on. Is your ac working properly? Is it fully charged? -
It depends... Renix or HO?

I believe the shield is one piece. I tried removing it without taking off the flywheel, but couldn't get it. I tried to pry the shield over the dowel pins on the block. With the FW in the way, I couldn't flex the shield enough to clear the pin. If you can remove the dowel pin, the shield should just slide off. It is open at the top.

When I find myself confronting "One Big Project," I try to break it done to many smaller projects. Then I take on one at a time. I like to start with the smaller tasks first. That way I can see progress and a sense of accomplishment. For me, that sense of accomplishment is motivation to take on the next task. Desmond Tutu once wisely said that “there is only one way to eat an elephant: a bite at a time.”

I doubt that the name Comanche will get used again. The PC crowd has blocked the use of “culturally sensitive names “ by Big Business. Jeep is getting flack for Cherokee Of course I could be wrong. -

PA wants you to stop and see the state…from the side of the road. They also want you to come back…for court.

When this occurred, the Gladiator was barely a concept. I consider the Gladiator more of a Scrambler, than the line of Jeep pick ups (Willys, J-series, MJ), but that's just me. -

Another story: I was returning to my truck and a "young" woman complemented me on the truck. She told me she has learn to drive on one those...except it was the "station wagon." She asked me if I did the work or had someone "convert it to a pickup." ?!?!?! I informed her that Jeep made it that way. Her response: I didn't know Jeep made a pick up! (Only from '46 to '92.) -

Somewhat similar story, though not as funny. I live in home owners association (HOA). The HOA requires all vehicles be register in order to use/park-at the amenities. We owned the Comanche before moving here. Every year, we have to verify our vehicles. One year I looked at the HOA's preprinted list of our vehicles and they changed it to a Commander. We went to the HOA office to inform them that the truck is a Comanche. The persons response: I've never heard of a Jeep Comanche. -
The Blk provides ground to the light through the headlight switch. The Blk w/ trace grounds through the door switch.

Hunting idle, bad gas milage, hesitation
87MJTIM replied to speeding_infraction's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Judging by the connector with the wires cut close (right side) and the blue crimp connector with the red wire, I will say a PO did some home-brewed wiring. I don't recognize that gray connector from my 87. Can you find any open connector close by that yours may fit? -
Manual transmission choices

+1 My BA10 went through 5 internal slave cylinders in the first 20 years. I made sure it would not see a 6th. -
Manual transmission choices
87MJTIM replied to brucecooner's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I swapped from the BA10 to the AX15. I got a proper tcase with 23 spines and shift linkage. Other than those two parts, I did not have to change the drive shafts. Both the front and rear fit the new trans and tcase. Other parts to get: the AX15 cross member and trans mount. If you switch to an external slave cylinder, you will need a new hydraulic system. -
So why not use a XJ prop valve IF you eliminate the load valve and switch to disk brakes?

Renix 4.0L wiring help
87MJTIM replied to eaglescout526's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
In the 87 electric manual, page 20, lower left of the ECU, Sync Ground. From C104, to C105, to C231. (Double check the wiring. I have found the manual to less than 100% accurate.) -

I have one in a box in my garage. I will have to dig it out. It came from a 87 XJ. -

The ECU had a re-programing change after 88. The 89-90 ECU puts out more HP than the 87-88. There are also differences between an AT and MT ECUs.
