Yes. It looked like either a repair shop or someone's "collection" of vehicles.

I am watching a U-Tube video on bike-packing a rails-to-trail route in SW S. Dakota. As the presenter is starting out, he rides past this:

What is this wire behind front bumper?
87MJTIM replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If yours is a '90 (last of the AMC era electrics/RENIX) and the wiring diagram is a for a '91 (first year of HO), was the wiring changed/altered that you know of? If 'No', then I doubt the connector is for an outside temp. sensor (something an MJ never had). -

+2 What are the wire colors? -
I found that with modern vehicles, if you want to change a part on the front, you start removing parts from the rear and work your way forward. If you want to change a part on the rear….

From the photos, it looks like the sway bar is spread too wide. I say that because both links are pushed out. If the axle was shifted, one of the links would be pushed in, the other would be pushed out. Spread wide: \ / shifted right: / / shifted left: \ \ My 2¢

weird clock plug with 7 wires
87MJTIM replied to Pete M's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Is the one on the left for an early radio harness? My 87 has two harnesses: one for speakers, another for power. -
My 2¢: Install both the AX15 AND the matching tcase from the XJ. You will have both an AX15 and external slave cyl. You don't have to install the front axle or front drive shaft (yet). This will allow you the option to go to 4wd in the future. (Keep the XJ front axle and drive shaft for that use.) You will need a new rear drive shaft to fit your. The old MJ DS is too long (something I've never heard) and the XJ DS is too short (sadly,...). Additional parts you will need: The crossmember and trans mount from the XJ, the tcase shifter and linkage (future use), if the master and slave cyls from the XJ are good use those. While you are at it, switch the clutch kit. I like to get the LUK kit for the 95 XJ rather than the 87 MJ. Not only because of the release bearings diff (int. vs ext.) but the pressure plates are different too.

I have a 05 CRV w/ a 5spd. It just hit 400,000 miles. If you take care of it, it will last a long time.

NP229 rebuild or any T-case really.
87MJTIM replied to eaglescout526's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That looks like a “lock-out” detent pin. It’s to prevent one shift rail from moving while another rail is in a certain gear. For example, some transfer cases won’t allow 2wd-low. The 231 only has 2h, 4h, and 4l. I don’t know anything about a 229. It’s probably a good idea to put it back in place. -

1989 MJ Rear Step Bumper Hardware
87MJTIM replied to AMCyaLater's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
When I switch bumpers I had to swap brackets. If I remember, the mounting points on the bumpers were different widths. I will have to look back at the pictures. Either way, I swapped bumper/brackets and kept the old brackets. -
1989 MJ Rear Step Bumper Hardware

I know I have the brackets laying around somewhere- #2 in the diagram. I switched to the Fay bumper years ago. They use a different mounting bracket. -
What to expect from this AAL set up?
87MJTIM replied to 512tr's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Where did you get the repair parts - pads, bolts, and clamps? My originals need repair - re-arch and a broken leaf. -
You should be looking at Craiglist and Facebook for transmissions for sale. Also, search out local junk yards near you. You will want to get the AX15 and bellhousing (preferably external slave cylinder with all the internal bellhousing parts) the tcase (the one for the BA10 won't fit the AX15), the crossmember, the tcase shift linkage, and maybe more that I am forgetting.

Engine replacement recommendations
87MJTIM replied to Phil86MJX's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had my engine replaced with one from a company that starts with 'J' (rhymes with Casper). Before I could pick it up, it was leaking oil at the mechanic's shop. He insisted J replace the engine. J wanted to start the warranty time period from the delivery date of the first engine. The mechanic insisted the warranty start with the install of the second. -
Will a 96 dana 30 front axle work with an 88 dana 30?
87MJTIM replied to VorTekX's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think the AX15 is a little longer than the BA10, but not too much. That means the front drive shaft may be a little short. I have my original DS in in my MJ. I don't flex the axles in my driving. -

My 2005 Honda cr-v just turned 400,000! We bought it new in December 2004. It’s a 5 speed manual. Honda stopped offering manuals in cr-v after ‘06. Now we start the countdown to 500k. Who else has high mileage vehicles?

Hey, that's a cool signature line. I might use it....Oh, wait. I already do use it.
