    Proto tools

You are comparing consumer grade tools made by the lowest bidder to professional grade tools aimed at people that use them everyday. It's little wonder they look and feel different. Sent from my SM-S920L using Tapatalk
  2. It depends. Many of the tweakers know the difference between a cat with cheap grid catalyst that aren't worth much and the more expensive ones. I cleaned out my garage and took all the cores to the buyer, he sorted through the cats by price everything else was just x number of these. Funniest part to me was that a stock AMC cat from a FSJ was worth $95, baby Jeep cats were $25 at the time. Sent from my SM-S920L using Tapatalk

  4. Yeah when I talked to them on the phone they started talking about other charges to get it out of the truck. Luckily it worked out I could have it delivered at work and use the receiving dock. Some carriers will work with you on charges as they want to create new business. XPO is not one of them. They want only the highest margin, least cube, most expensive to ship freight. I won't use them unless the customer is paying the freight, because I'm not having the argument with my boss about the price.
  5. Stopped by looking for a Comanche specific picture today, and its fantastic to see so many old friends still and the huge amount of new folks here still loving the little bastard we all do. Have a great weekend all, and I've enjoyed the sights of everyone's project. And to the old guys.... things really do change when your kid(s) reach the age they start looking at long shelved projects and want to know how to get them started again.
  6. XPO and most other carriers will drop to homes in residential areas. They however will whack you with LARGE accessorial fees to do it. Residential is one fee... that box truck(straight truck in industry parlance) is equipped with a lift gate that will get a pallet to ground level. That is another fee. If the driver has to move the freight much further than the back of the truck, they will charge you inside delivery charge.
  7. I have been laid up with gall stone necrotizing pancreatitis since January 27th of this year. I almost cashed out twice, had an occulated lung, lost 60+ lbs. I just had surgery this week. There is a reason why they can't tell you what kind of surgery you are having. They will start laproscopically, but if complications occur you will have to be opened up. I lucked out and the complication, I had did not require me to get opened up. The 4 inscions I have hurt enough. I also finally had my PIC line pulled this week ending a 6 month course of antibiotics. Sent from my SM-S920L using Tapatalk
  8. Warehouse Supervisor for multinational craphole that makes stuff you see every day and don't know it. I graduate college (again) in three weeks, then I will be looking for something else.
  9. I looked up some various gasket numbers to see about possible compatibility. The 232/258 do not have the same numbers as the 4.0/2.5. That eBay ad claim about the V-8 might be suspect also as the gasket for a late 360 matches the 4.0 not the 258.
  10. If its a for sale ad... Its a dead giveaway there is a deal to be had. If they aren't smart enough to investigate what they are selling, they aren't smart enough to figure out what its worth
  11. The FC is nice....but its too damn tall to climb into or to use the bed reasonably
  12. We had a 94 with the 5.2. It had the least suspect of the Chrysler transmissions and the 249 transfer case. Overall I grew to hate the ZJ. We put 100k on it in the 8 years we had it. The viscous coupler failed after three or four years and I never bothered to fix it. $800 is a tough bill to swallow. My biggest complaint was just the overall cheapness of the entire build. Sway bar links, replaced the drivers door and repaired the wiring. Rewelded the passenger door hinge. Lots of stuff like that. I would admit, it did ride nice and was excellent in mixed snowy conditions.

    Cool Phone Apps?

Google sky maps.... just love that one... I'm not thrilled about Google navigation and its performance.
  14. I took mine the Jeep dealer to get some parts..The sales manager asked me where I got someone to put a bed on a Cherokee. I told him that the factory built it. Then he tried to tell me that he has sold Jeeps for 30 years and had never sold even one of those 'factory conversions'
  15. Not true.. My son can do it. That kid is stupid flexible.

    Alternator

No... that stupid adjuster bolt on the bottom of the power steering pump though. It can be a pain to get at.
  17. There are a handful of J-truck kits and there was a XJ kit from a Japanese manufacturer(Tamiya maybe). I'm not sure there ever was a Comanche specific kit.

    Super Bowl

No he wasn't... He plead guilty to a much lesser charge, snitched on the other two and the murder charges were dropped. I didn't care who won, I kinda hoped the field opened up and swallowed both teams. Thought I was getting my wish there for a minute.
  19. I saw a dark blue metallic Limited one of the high toppers several years ago. it was totalled on the inside, the interior was ripped to shreds, couldn't even get an idea of what they looked like when they were together.
  20. I figured it was gonna be a crime stoppers photo or a low budget porn video when I saw it was Mike's thread... ;)
  21. Ehh.. I bet you do see a 'raptor' again. But it will be some trim package niceties somewhere down the road and not much more. These low production number vehicles have a way of not really making any money on their first run, but the company managing to wring some dollars later.
  22. Its not an issue of helping someone or not.... Gyspy/Wildcat towing isn't illegal because of not wanting to help someone. Its illegal because of the myriad of issues involved with the towing or the responsibilities associated with legal towing. Pat and Marcel talk a bit about them. But consider this.... you happen upon someone stuck in a ditch.... you help them out and get them on the road. Turns out they are drunker than all get out... they hit a bus load of nuns coming back from bingo night and kill the entire busload. You might now be an accessory in vehicular homicide. Or how about you jerk someone out of a ditch... something breaks sending a piece of your truck through the back window of the car killing an occupant. How would you feel??? The laws are also in place to keep legal truck drivers from losing work to Gypsies who sit and listen to the scanner than race out to a call hoping to steal it from the dispatched company.
  23. I needed to replace a Chrylser POS Jeep ZJ that was part DD and part tow rig. I have an army sized family and knew the wallet could stand one new vehicle not a family sized DD and a tow rig. I knew I needed a large SUV or full crew cab P/U. MPG wasn't really a concern for me. I normally drive around 100 miles a week, heck I spent all summer DD'ing my FSJ at 8 MPG. In my area crew cab pick-ups are not real common and ones in good shape command. I also knew (like Pete said) unless you use a diesel for diesel stuff on a regular basis you are simply tossing money at the idea of being a diesel owner. I knew my need of a big bad tow vehicle was pretty limited, so a diesel wasn't really needed unless the price was stupid low. I also didn't need the extra capacity of a DRW pick-up, so I would never be able to offset those additional costs and storage issues. My wife and oldest daughter can't drive manual transmission, so it had to be an automatic transmission. I couldn't find a crew cab,SRW,big gas engine truck at a price/condition point that made sense. I found every 'wrong' truck out there though.. I mean really.. who orders a 2wd 1 ton p/u with a V-6???? So I turned to full sized SUVs.. That comes to a whole new set of challenges and ideas... I found Durangos to be the cheapest of the large SUVs.. but since it has the inherent problem of being built by Chrysler, and the overall lowest tow rating. I really discounted the idea of getting one, unless it was stupidly cheap enough to cover the repairs that come with owning Chrylsers. I ended up looking at Excursions/Expeditions, Suburbans/Tahoes. In a perfect world it would have been a diesel Excursion and called it done. But the pricing on the available ones was very high, or they were already really monkeyed around with(big lifts, stupid black smoke blowing, etc.) Most of the Suburbans either were very expensive, or suffer what I call white-trash-itis. Clapped out interiors, cigarette butts everywhere, smelling faintly of cheap stale beer, Nascar stickers all over, some sort of wierd pointless exterior mod. I found a few that were in the right price range and usable condition without major rehab. I found a goodly number of Expeditions and Tahoes that were in the right price range and right condition. I held out for the perfect truck to fall into my lap, my wife and kids looked at ALOT of vehicles with me. I had to find something that they all could be in comfortably. I went back and forth between a Tahoe and an Expedition for weeks. Alot of the Tahoes I found had rust issues under the doors and in the rocker areas. I finally found an Expedition with the 5.4 and the tow package, it wasn't exactly what I wanted. Heck, the day before I went to pick up the Expy I went and looked at one more crew cab P/U just to make sure. Since I got my Expy.. I have loved it. Driving it is VERY comfortable, alot more so than I expected. It does tow just fine for my needs. If I was towing everyday it would be somewhat less than I needed, but for my use it was perfect. I couldn't find a big gas engined, crew cab, SRW p
  24. I'll bet its a Dana 44 Front with Dana 60 rear.
  25. Mine has 260k on it. Burns some oil and antifreeze. Still runs just fine. If I was planning on doing anything but scrapping it, it would get rebuilt. Why put something with that mileage in a project and not rebuild it?? Some folks rebuild Chebbys over and over and never think twice about it.
