  1. If I can get the stars aligned, I will bring a pic of my Comanche!!!! :D
  2. I wonder if I can use that to get Bill Gates to fund my Jeep habit??
  3. That is why. Keep it Jeep, that is my way of thinking. A V8 would be too much for the trails from my experience, and just putting another 4 in there would make it a dog on the street. I already have one like that, my YJ, don't want another one. The 258 is one of those engines that you don't see on the road much anymore and they are good strong engines. With some good tweaking you can make em better than the 4.0l in stock form. I don't want the typical Chevy swap, absolutely refuse to even think about putting a Ford under the hood. The 4.2 isn't a common swap, and since the mounts are the same for the 4.2 as they are for the 4.0, it would be a fairly simple swap. That way I can put any trans after it, and any t-case. I would probably put the T5 that I have sitting in the shed with who knows what for a tcase(have not decided on that yet). They never put the 258 in the XJ/MJ chassis, they started with the 4.0l. So it would be different and a little unique. I was just hoping that someone on here would have some input as to what it would take to make it work. That is all. Thanks, Matt The 2.8l was a Chevy motor. Second finally got around to measuring the engine-bays. A 4.0l and a renix-era 2.5l are exactly the same size, no difference anywhere.
  4. It was probably Jerry(one of my million cousins), a bunch of his workers and subs are uncles, cousins, and various sundry relations. I always find it funny, how Jeepers always seem to find people they know in common.
  5. I have, and I still have mud stuck in places to prove it. :D
  6. Well, actually it was for engine type. The chevy motor was dropped in 1987 in favor of the AMC 4.0l. The front clip was changed to accomodate that change
  7. Know any Cass Family members??
  8. Hey. matt What part of Erie you from?? I have a ton of family out in Harborcreek. I remember visiting in High School, and my cousins all busting on me, cause I would say a girl is hot, and she would be related.
  9. You are getting some mixed info. The 86 MJ would have the shorter front clip. The 2.5l and the 2.8l both are compared to the 4.0l a short motor. But after 87 until the end of production the MJ has the longer front sheet metal. I will get the measurements from a later 2.5l(90), and compare that. But the front should be identical to the 4.0l fronts. But having a complete donor vehicle makes the swap 10,000% eaiser. The Cherokee and Comanche front harnesses are identical, as are the engine management systems. If you pick-up a 4.0l Cherokee the swap would be infinitely eaiser, than trying to get all the parts from different sources. Now this is assuming, your screenname Matt89mj, comes from having a 89 MJ.
  10. It was available in 1986, it was the Hvy Dty axle option that year. The waggy axles are wider than a MJ's, but only by a couple of inches. IIRC, its 59" for an MJ/XJ axle and 62" for a wagon axle. Sorry, I can't be more accurate, all my tech notes and such are packed, up to move into our 'office'
  11. Here are pics of 'Spot' the wonder Comanche. The only rust 'hole' is in the very bottom of the cab corner. The rest are just surface rust.
  12. I usually see one or two a day depending on how much I am about town. There is one here with a Tommy Lift on it. It belongs to the former owner of our Sears Home store, and it used to have Sears decals on it. I'm like Pete, I can 'see' a Comanche coming from blocks away. I was sitting at a stop light, and straight across the intersection is a kid in a longbed 2wd that needs some attention. It had rear-ended something, and the body had various dings and dents in it. But the paint was absolutely in great shape compared to Spot(my MJ). When the left arrow turns, the other MJ and I both make our respective lefts, all the while checking out the others truck. We both almost rear end vehicles trying to look at each other rather than driving.
