I've fixed minor vacuum leaks with silver spray paint. Get the motor to operating temp, spray the affected area, shut it off and spray again then let it sit and dry (old Ford mechanic's trick)

2 to 4 swap and manual to auto
carnuck replied to 88stroker's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've just been through this with mine over the past couple weeks. Things I changed: Steering column (for auto shift. Floor shifter just needs the plate pulled for the auto and tcase handles) Speedo (because it has the PRND321 gauge) Trans mount (2wd BA 10/5 was different from 4wd AW4, including the bottom plate and exhaust bracket) AW4 (2wd BA 10/5 is on my for sale pile) Pilot bearing (mine was rusted in and took most of a day to shatter out) Flexplate (flywheel on the for sale pile) CPS (maybe not, but I wanted new since I was in there anyways) TPS (auto trans controller style has 2 connectors) Wiring harness for EFI (mine is from a '90 XJ) and computers for EFI and trans. Driveshafts (went to 4x4 at the same time) Cooling lines for the trans (already had a new auto rad since '03 and now I have new lines) and brackets to hold them from the junkyard. 95 ZJ booster and master (same as '93 to '97 XJ dual diaphragm for more brake power) Maybe more (can't think of it) -
Here's my first Comanche I bought back in '99 Image Not Found Shortly after I lifted it 3 inches and made it 4x4. Soon to be up for sale if the kid I got the motor/trans from decides to pass on it.

If you had this or this Image Not Found or even this: Image Not Found rolling up, people tend to get out of the way! :brows: Wish I had a pic posted up of my '69 GMC bus (ever watch the movie "Speed"? )

My '87 has a SOA (It's easier with an MJ axle since you don't really have to cut the old pads off! Just buy/make new ones and weld them on!) and the stock springs make it handle like a rocket sled on rails! It's funny as hell watching people try to follow me around the curve on the I-405 S bound to I-520 E bound with their "hot" cars. Most won't make it (CRUNCH!) or spin out unless they slow down. I can take it at 50 no prob dry and 35 wet (posted 25 mph for a reason)

Stock Mj with 30" tires Questions
carnuck replied to fatcat0491's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
235/75/15 fit with minimal rubbing. I did 5 1/2" front lift (next time I get the double curved lower control arms!) and SOA rear to clear my 33/10.50/16s I had (they perfectly cleared the 33/9.50/15s) Now I have 30/9.50/15s till I can afford another set of 33" tires! (may take awhile since I bought myself a '51 CJ2B) -
Changing Injector in TBI
carnuck replied to WyoCherokee's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The Orings can be found at most parts stores. -
The NAPA store you went to didn't have someone qualified behind the counter if they told you dealer only! I work for NAPA in Bellevue, WA and specialize in Jeeps, AMCs and other "unusual" vehicles. I think I need to start a post with "need NAPA part numbers?"
-
I'm trying to figure how to get all gauges including tach in my "new" assembly with the auto shifter in it.
-
They definitely look right. Couldn't find the number on NAPA's website, but I have bought new ones. They changed the numbers (and supplier) recently. The old way was easy. 210-xxxx was regular, 215-xxxx (or bigger first 3 numbers) were heavier duty. 260-xxxx was the strap kit and 261-xxxx was the bolt kits.

Peugeotjunk to ax15 2to 4
carnuck replied to georgiaboy27's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It depends on the year of the AX-15. They changed the pilot size 3 times. -
Rear brake proportioning thing
carnuck replied to bullyjeep98's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I did the bypass and plugged the other port (capped the second line in case I need it again) I plan to put in an adjustable valve (from Summit if I can't find one through a NAPA supplier) I just got a '95 ZJ booster (same as XJ booster of similar vintage) that I'm putting in, so I have to match up my system better. -
Column Shifter To Floor Shifter?
carnuck replied to fatcat0491's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'd like to buy your shifter cable! (sadly, I recently gave away the floor shifter I had) There is a plate on your floor that covers the hole where the shifter goes. My cable accidentally got broken while pulling the column from a junkyard MJ. -
I almost made a :rainbow: bar comment, but I liked the 16" ZJ rims I used to have on my '87.
-
I did the YJ hoses (match the YJ year to your MJ to get the right ones) when I did 5 1/2" front lift on mine. Works nicely.
-
Mine's pretty easy. When I got on the net in '96 with my Webtv (had no computer experience and still have no training yet I keep the computers at work up and running) Canuck was taken (I"m from Canada) and Carnut was already taken, so I blended the words to get Carnuck. If you do a google search, you will find only 1 other person (who's claiming that to be their name and they've been pissed with me ever since, sending about 200 virii a year trying to infect my computer)

DON'T run regular grade gas in any small engine! The additives put in over the past 2 or so years are destroying these little motors by drying everything rubber out and wearing out all the bushings. Same goes with the oils since the zinc has been ripped out making LE grade oils that are killing flat tappet cams at a 300% higher rate than just 2 years ago.

Battle of New Orleans by Johnny Horton (explains why I like it so much!)
-
I would have to allow for replacing the engine. The Renault power plant is notorious for blowing up and expen$ive parts. I'd do a Nissan TD33 or Toyota 2LT in a heartbeat! (The Toy will bolt to an AX-15 or AW4. The Nissan was used with Dodge 727 and a version of the AW4 in Nissan Maxima station wagons till '84)

You just have to be careful how far you go. My old man broke a 2x4 across my back and bull whipped me several times when I broke "his rules" (yet my younger brother got away with everything) as well as bare fisted beatings. (he was a mean drunk too) Turning point came when my brother fell down the stairs (I was already at the bottom and not involved) and he came in when my mom was comforting my brother and assumed I had something to do with it, and started wailing on me. My mother tried to stop him, and he back handed her across the room. That's when the switch flipped and I got the upper hand. I hit him so hard he sunk into the lathe and plaster wall and although surprised, he came back fighting (he was a former Marine Corps drill sergeant in the Korean war and several times I watched him beat two or three guys down at a time, including some cops that went over the line) I got damn lucky and cold cocked him, and my mom told me I should leave before he awoke. That's when I joined a NATO peace keeping troupe and got posted in Cyprus (75)
-
Long ago, far away RCAF 767 Squadron, then peace keeping in Cyprus ('75) my buddy caught a bullet (3rd man on the match) and I got RTU'd for my reaction.

I had my wife's Ranger 4x4 done to the tune of $350 at a dealership.

Grand cherokee knuckles on cherokee axle?
carnuck replied to ironhead03's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm about to do the knuckles and brakes (as well as CV axles since I get a price break at work) I scored a '95 ZJ booster from the local boneyard (and a matching new master cyl from work) and I have one of the fitting adapters so far (metric fitting on the master and std lines) I think the Weatherhead numbers are 7937 and 1441 (I'll know for sure soon) I do know I WON'T be putting in ABS for sure. -
