  1. The injector and throttlebody on the ‘87 I have were replaced along with the computer before I got it. All my MJ stuff will be headed to the scrapyard (I’m too sick to do anymore and I need to clean my place so I can sell it ASAP. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Nothing loose other than a whole front clip less the grill surround. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  4. 79 (actually all ‘74-91 full size) 4 Dr wagons are within an inch of width wheel mounting surface to WMS at both ends. The rims are a different offset to make it sit wider and also pre ‘80 are offfset axles on the wrong side at both ends. (Front is passenger side till ‘80 and rear is quadratrac offset to the right as well) J10s and 2 Dr Cherokees are too wide unless you find the oddball narrowtrac 2dr without fender flares. Model 20 rear came in ‘80 until ‘88ish when the Grand Wagoneers (84-91) went back to D44 as M20s went to the Humvee production. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have a shortbox townside bed (7’ long) in Seattle with an ‘83 I’m parting for the Stepside bed and rollbar to go onto my lifted‘84. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. It’s going to depend on whether you need a hauling truck, tow vehicle, off-road capability or fuel economy with passenger space. There is a reason almost every GM truck with digital dash is pulled in the junkyard. On Fords, the 5.4 is alternately praised or cussed (spark plug/coil vacuum issues and the wrong auto trans cost me $5,000 to replace in a truck I bought for $500!) That dial [emoji90] shift Dodge has on the dash nearly got me killed when a swing gate was closing and I nearly got skewered because it won’t reverse directions or shift if you slam on your brakes and in the dark it can be confused for the heater fan control or radio volume. 7. To get an idea how it would work, try climbing into the back of your truck through your rear window removed, without A: kicking the driver or another passenger in the head, B: knocking the gear shifter out of position C: Kicking the windshield or D: Nearly causing an accident by blocking the view to the right as your truck starts death wobble on a downhill 3 lane highway at 65 mph while some jackass passes you on the right at 90+ mph while hauling a boat that is easily 3 times what he could safely stop with as evidenced by his smoking brakes throwing sparks as he passes you in heavy long weekend traffic on I-90 just before Issaquah, WA and your sons just informed you that the canopy clamps were popping apart from the shaking. 8. One of the first things I would do is ensure that the Orings on the injector aren’t leaking (assuming you have Renix TBI like most US models) That’s about the “economy “ I got with my ‘88 with 33” tires, 3.73 gears and a pallet of concrete bags or cinder blocks running 4.0L AW4 and over 250,000 miles on it. 9. The head was the same for carb and TBI. I did the swap long ago when a carburetor died and just swapped intakes for the TBI one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Gumball Ralley and the REAL Gone in 60 Seconds HB Halicki version. Eventually I’ll see Serenity in a theater. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I’d be looking to fit that Toyota dually rear in if the MJ’s frame fits between the tires with room to flex. If it’s the 5 lug, they are same pattern as Jeep (not sure on the center hole diameter) and if it’s the 6 lug version, an upgrade on the front diff to one from a Full-size ‘80+ Jeep Wag/ Grand Wag/80-83 Cherokee 4 Dr will get you a matching 6 lug pattern. 12. 84/85 did indeed use the Motorcraft electronic ignition. The HEI or points distributor from a 2.5 GM 4 cyl (as used in boats and 60s Chevy II Nova) should work with the same gear swap as Chev inline 6 dist to Jeep in-line six. There is a 4.0L 4 bbl carb manifold available out there too. The single injector in the throttle body system isn’t too bad unless the Orings are leaking. I considered putting one on a 4.0L with the Renix flexplate to run the 4 cyl Computer for injection. The idea was bandied about years back on the Jeep Stroker Six and Renixpower yahoogroups. The AX4 or AX5 won’t bolt to a 4.0L, but Toyota used a variant of those transmissions. I considered getting a 2wd 2LT or bigger Toyota 4 cyl diesel for the swap. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I still have a great dislike for the Vee belt system. Especially when the alternator bracket doesn’t have the AC brace from above. So many of those broke over the years and I had at least one fall forward and eat the radiator with no warning.
  14. Crap. I must’ve copied/pasted the wrong item number. There was a bag with the dust plug in it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Item 112155133608 on that evil bag site. Keep in mind that it’s also a Wrangler part. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I was looking at a ‘95 Dakota, but it has the Mitsubishi 2.5 (OHC) with 5 speed which is totally different than the AMC one used ‘96 to ‘02? So it’s not useful to Jeepers. If the diesel parts weren’t so hard to get, I still would entertain getting it and use that setup to put a Mitsubishi 2.6L turbo diesel in an XJ or MJ. Most of them have cracked heads due to lack of enough cooling from the factory, but they were used in Dodge D50s as well as Mitsubishi Mighty Max and Ford Rangers, and the cast iron tractor/marine cylinder head bolts right on. One other thing for the OP, I recall needing the clutch and maybe flywheel for the swap as well because the AX15 clutch was bigger than AX5.
  17. Try unplugging the ignition switch on the column. That Bypasses a possible coincidental slider switch breaking. Is there aftermarket Radio or accessory wiring direct to battery? If it was an XJ, I’d wonder about the passive alarm system with a “chip” that came out for a few years. Alternator shorting internally? Wires pinched between bell housing and motor or melted on driver’s side?
  18. When I put that style on my ‘87 4 cyl, I had to space it all forward about 3/8” (10mm) for the serpentine pulleys to line up and the reservoir to clear the exhaust. It originally had the one with a remote reservoir but it came loose on the previous owner and destroyed the serpentine pulley.
  19. I’m running NGK BKR6EK (2288) plugs in my Renix 2.5 and 4.0, both with a functioning knock sensor and the initial plus acceleration engine timing (when warmed up so the sensor was adjusting time) was advanced more and running with a gutted cat ran lower HCs and NOx numbers than brand new Autolites. Same tank of gas, there was a “seat of the pants” power difference too.
  20. I’ve had issues with the pilot bearing in the crankshaft being dry and sticking/grabbing the trans input shaft. Low oil in the trans can cause a similar lack of synchronization of the gear sliders. So can too thick of trans oil if it’s really cold until the trans warmed up. I had the pilot bearing seize to the input shaft in my first ‘87 (Sarge) while waiting for a red light. It nearly launched me into the car in front of me. I drove it for several weeks synchro shifting and starting in gear to get going as I had to work. That’s when I got started converting it to auto and 4x4.
  21. Make sure that if you do go AW4 that it’s ‘91 up for 23 spline output to match the 242. I was surprised that the tcase tag doesn’t say New Venture Gear, as that’s what the company became after ‘92.
  22. The plug/dust boot may be available but the lines move around a bit due to the floating slave unless someone has their foot on the clutch.
  23. I hope both 2wd trucks, the cut in 1/2 parts rig, canopy, Ford 8.8, etc go away for $1000. All my other non-FSJ parts are going away too.
  24. Second Louey is no more. 🤬[emoji22][emoji30]🤬 I had just figured out it’s running issues (cv instead of PCV with TBI made it run awesome, but it all went suddenly dead. It started running fine. Then I got run off the road by a drug dealer. He came around a blind corner (tall brush, narrow gravel downhill road with a sharp right) in my lane, against the edge of the road on my side to hit me head on, but I went in the ditch and passed him and his cronies in an ‘80s diesel E350 van that was loaded. I caught a rock before the culvert, got airborne and landed back on the road. I saw them stop just up the hill and thought it was an accident at first, but when I backed up to ask WTF was happening, my throttle went wide open and it was stuck in reverse. I shut the key off and stopped when I was on the edge of the other side, and I felt a BUMP, and next I knew I was rolling end over and landed on my roof and they drove away. 1/2 an hour later, my honking ran the battery down. Tried calling out on my phone and got “You are not authorized to make calls from this area” and the same message in multiple languages. (My cell phone company denies any such message exists) Somehow I got my fat butt through the driver’s side window and perched on the rock and stump (while the truck was upside down and caught on them) A couple renting a site for the weekend just down from my place happened by and I hollered “Call 911!” They stopped and threw me a tow strap but it took two tied together to reach me! I pulled my laundry basket out and climbed up the hill. They (and I) were amazed I wasn’t seriously hurt (pain didn’t start to set in till 24 hours later when the adrenaline wore off) I was able to reach 911 with their phone no problem (same service as mine and same iPhone!) I tried to find my new mirror mounted dashcam but couldn’t and the fire department rescue and police didn’t either. No uplink because of no service there. I found my mirror about 25 feet from where my truck landed after the tow truck hauled 2nd Louie out. 4.5 hours later. (Tow rig got there at @ 9pm and accident was 4:20) I went home, caught a nap after getting what I could from the cab (rear window blew out during the recovery. New Windshield was shattered in the fall. New ceiling panel was ruined. New tires still held air but had chunks of wood and dirt stuck into the bead. Except for the crushed cab roof and broken Right tail light, it still looked pretty good. Even the new battery and radiator seemed okay. (Nothing left in clutch master and gear oil all over the interior from the 4 speed but no gas smell from the just filled fuel tank) They towed it to inspection by police since I passed the intoxication test to see if any paint was traded. (I saw the van with banned for life driver but it’s a private road. Luckily I had cooled down by then or I might have gone Walking Tall on them. He didn’t admit fault but said he’d help me any way he can as a neighbor. I went back there after my nap in the Barbie car ($700 ‘02 Malibu that had a blown headgasket right after arriving in WA state and getting stuck in traffic less than 100 miles from home) I tied my tree climbing rope through the holes in the wheel and rappelled down to get my coat (my other keys were in it) and I found my army bag so I stuffed it with everything I could find in the blackberry and sticker bushes. Jack handle. Portable Air compressor. Clothes. Tools, etc. Now I’m waiting for my truck to come back from the tow yard storage and use parts from it to fix original Louie. I’m going to need a RH tail light. (All three are broken.) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
