I opened many AW4s with tcase trying to find a 23 spline back in the late ‘90s/early ’00s and that was the change over point that I found at Oly4x4. Renix AW4s were all 21 spline along with BA 10/5s but the AX15 were all 23 spline and were put in ‘89+. I have an ‘07/90 Comanche 4.0/AW4/NP231J with 97,000 original miles that I will check next month but I’ll be shocked if it’s 23 spline. I wanted one for my J10 to run the NV241or 4:1 tcase I got from www.JBconversions.com back when they were newly aftermarket. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It’s also the same as the 2.0 in 77-79 gremlin/Spirit which came with SR/4? SR/5? And turbo 924 Porsche 79/81. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If it’s a 4x4 904 Auto, then it’s 23 spline short output. AW4 was 21 spline 87-08/90 when the HO came out when it went to 23 spline long (1” longer than the 904 23 spline output) I’ve been trying to find the 2.5 AW4 bell and torque converter/ flexplate but I guess I’ll be swapping a 4.0 in it’s place. The tdi might use the same pattern as the VW/Audi 2.0L with 904 Auto trans in Postal Jeep DJ5-Gs in 78/79. Only the Gen 1 AMC V8s (250, 287, 327) had a different bell pattern than 4.0 and ‘72+ 232/258 in-line sixes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I was looking into a 700R4 swap in my ‘87 MJ but the motor is so worn out that unless I find another from a TJ or something, I will probably put in one of the 4.0Ls I have with an AW4 (I still have several) Sucks to have to rewire the truck from TBI and change the fuel pump (longbox Renix won’t fit) If I had more time, I would attempt to run the TBI with the 4.0L but I feel like my ability and time are drawing shorter each day. If the PO didn’t follow Cruiser54’s Renix maintenance guide, I’d start there and see what happens. 89/90 were the best years for wiring in these. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Is It AX15 specific? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ashtray in a factory MJ console
carnuck replied to Strokermjcomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had one on the short console. I kept change in mine. Probably dealer installed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I got up this AM and ground was covered. It’s still snowing lightly but the ground is clear now. My plan is to get the snow tires switched off tomorrow and ATF changed in wife’s car in Knoxville. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If that one is bad it’s usually going to shut off the fuel pump too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have some days that things go right. I’ve had too many close calls in this lifetime. It’s gone to the point I can see some things coming right before it happens and other threats I’m blissfully unaware of till later. I once was told my guardian angel must be a drunk. Ever have a feeling when you walk into a place that you need to leave again? Great example is local Walmart. I saw the guy coming in as I was leaving, but he kept his rifle on the other side of him. I stopped in the Dollar General next door and we went under police lockdown because they were looking for the guy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

A huge broken vacuum running in reverse you mean? Sucking everything up and spreading around a mess instead of cleaning. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Bulbs both burnt out this time? Trailer harness tends to get rubbed through by the bumper. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

HO injectors in a Renix rig can up the power some but it also drops the fuel economy. In the past I found an ‘87 XJ 2wd with 4.0L, BA 10/5 5 speed and 2.72 gears. It worked well with stock tires but the O/D was 0.70:1 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Is your cam bolt with spring and ball still in good shape? It was made to stop cam walk and if the ball falls out it can chew through the timing cover. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think the change came with the different brake booster. I ran into that when I put a ZJ brake booster/Master in my ‘87 MJ. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I used Redline MTL in my ‘87 until the pilot bearing died (seized) at a traffic light. That’s when I converted to automatic. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I straightened a few out. Here’s the bigger list. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Jeep_vehicles An example of the postal delivery Jeeps DJ-5G ‘78 to ‘80 was a carbureted 2.0L VW Audi motor with custom 904 automatic. I had one I was going to hook up to a VW/Audi 5 cyl diesel but my wife hated the ex- Ice Cream truck! Volvo used that motor with their version of an AW-3 transmission. I don’t think they got the Overdrive AW4 version.

I had a redesign idea that allowed for a toolbox under the seat. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Napa replacement number is ICR13 or ICR13sb. It was added to the fuel pump feed to cut down the noise. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Edited to make more sense.
