Paid $2.01 for premium tonight in N Seattle.

The only reason my '87 was pulled as my daily driver was the auto 4x4 swap that got stalled due to a shift cable (that's on it's way!) and some more upgrades. I take it you have a 4 cyl 4 speed or 904 auto? Try a 4.0L with 5 speed. Mine cruised at 70 mph for 150 miles a day to and from work without skipping a beat except when the catalytic converter fell apart and clogged the muffler (quick bash with the claw hammer and I was even to work on time)!

Run those rims offroad and they'll likely bend. (where's that rainbow sticker?)

Gotta get some daytime to do it. I have both 4.0L and 2.5L. The serpentine set up 2.5 is same as 4.0L. -

Kellena Moedt asked how to post pics. The way to do it now is to open a Comanche Club Image Hosting account and then use their link system to post up. -
Truck only Starts in Neutral???
carnuck replied to ComancheKid45's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That was supposed to read "weren't" required (damn self operating spellchecker! I hate it when my wife leaves it on!) By pass the switch with a push button and the back up lights still work. -

clutch-to-floor safety is not on any of my MJ's. matter of fact, I've never once seen an xj or mj with it that's pre-1995 They probably already broke and had to be bypassed. Mind you, they were required by all states (they are in WA) -
That is called Caster adjustment which is what Eagle said above ;)It can be accomplished with spacers or a lift kit with adjustable control arms. I did the extended arms on my '87 when I did the 5 1/2" lift to clear 33/9.50/15 tires.

Problem is you will crash too far back in time (1947) and people will think it's a UFO!

Once the spot is open, spray paint your name on the spot or license number with "all other cars will be towed". If there is notice the spot is taken, they have no excuse. I hauled 15 cars out of my spot at the last apt I lived at (I came home at 11PM from work and I was PISSED to not have someplace to park! Especially since I paid for the damn spot and it was posted!)

I added a button on my dash long ago that goes straight to the starter in case of an event like this. Neutral switch isn't on the std trans, but a "clutch to the floor before it can crank" switch is on the std trans rigs. -
Occasional driveline shudder when taking off
carnuck replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The yoke nut on my D35 came loose and caused this feeling. Fix now or be prepared to get a new diff! -
When I had DW in my '86, I jam on the brakes (if no-one is behind me) and then accel and it disappears till I drop to "that" speed range. New tracbar (didn't help), ZJ tierods, etc (only helped a little). Balljoints checked out okay. Didn't have the $$ for a tracbar drop kit. (on my '87 I got an adjustable tracbar for $100 from Superlift) Adding spacers to the lower control arm to push it @ 1/2" forwards (the big bolt and 3 bolts on the back side need to be loosened for this) which rotated the axle back to the same position it was in before the 3" lift. (fixed the driveline angle too)

I ran mine to a hose I put behind the tool hanger so it blows on the rear window to defog it.

I've seen the 2.5 GM motor in '78-80 CJs (the trans is sought after because the bolt pattern is same as SBC) and the bolt pattern changed in '82ish is 60 degree V6 to match the 2.8 (2.5 was also used in some Postal Jeeps of the time along with the Audi/VW/Porsche 2.0L) I think only the YJs got the 2.8L in '86.

If the government gave everyone that sum of money, it would deflate the economy because the rich would become poor and the dollar worth less than it is now. I say they should buy all the mortgages and give everyone a 1% loan. End result is people pay off their mortgages faster at less money so they have more money to spend on other things. Real Estate sells faster, gov't gets more money from property sales, people can afford houses easier. THAT is the WIN WIN situation!

breaking into your vehicle (lost keys)
carnuck replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
When I lived in Chilliwack, BC, someone kept getting into an old car I had in the back yard, so I removed the clips for the inside handles and jammed 2x4s under the window tracks to keep them up. Getting in was easy. Once they locked the door, there was no getting out till someone let them out. Second day I found a VERY scared/confused young girl (17 at that time) who had run away from an abusive home. I took her in and ended up with a surprise girlfriend (I was almost 25 and just going through divorce) for 2 years. Helped her through school and then things sort of fell apart because I wasn't interested in partying and I was done with making kids. Now she's married with kids and I used to hear from her now and then. Guess I should see if she's still around when I go up at Christmas time. -
If you don't feel like crawling underneath but have access to the hole where the shifter sticks out, the BA 10/5 has 3 bolts on the shifter and the AX-15 has 4 bolts. The AX-5 also has 4 bolts (shifter may swap but I haven't tried it) If it's 4 cyl, most likely AX-5 unless a Dakota bell. etc was used during an upgrade.

ba10/5 to ax15 OR aw4 swap info

If you aren't a regular mechanic, I heartily suggest taking zip lock bags with you to the junkyard you get the trans from. Put the bolts from different spots and label the bags with a felt pen. IE: bellhousing, starter, flexplate, trans crossbar, etc. -
