  1. You can slightly modify timing by slotting the crank position sensor so it can move. The dist has a sensor that adjusts fuel spray timing so you lose power if it's messed with. Vacuum leaks cause missing too.
  2. Yup. Other two are Bill and Chris

Now I have a little more time to post. fsj-list@yahoogroups.com[/email] (there are some regional lists as well like My '83 J10 is a longbox with 4.2L that I stuffed an AW4 into along with the NP208J (I was going to put the J20 axles from my '73 J4000 into it) I was going to use it to tow my 5th wheel, but I got a shortbox '76 J10 with J20 axles. I put the 304 from my '73 (that I pulled from my '77 AMX) into it with a 727 and Dodge Ramcharger NP208D (mirror image of the Jeep one so I don't have to change axles) That will do the job nicely (and I can sell off the '81 Chev C20 with 454 I currently use for this job while the price of gas is still down)
  4. That is a DJ aka Postal Jeep or Ice Cream truck (in their second incarnation) Only the '79s came with the VW/Audi 2.0L motor (Gremlins of this vintage also did) and it was also used in Porsche 924s till '82 (many '79 to '82s were turbo fuel injected) They happen to have the same bell pattern as VW diesels (I think the 5 cyl version is the same too)
  5. I use a socket on extension to get it.
  6. Jeep with a factory installed VW motor. Image Not Found
  7. The Aw4 changed over to 23 spline with the arrival of the 4.0L HO in 08/90. I took the AW4 out of an 07/90 only to find 21 spline (after paying $600 for the parts rig)

You might want to check out the FSJ boards too. (I think I'm on every one ever done!)
  9. That's a wussy motor. I have a nice 454 with Edelbrock package, headers and TH400 I'll let you have for $1200 Comes with a neat carrying case shaped like an '81 Chev C20 and 14 bolt rear axle with 4.10s included!
  10. My '86 used to belong to a Squid too. They make good little transport rigs.
  11. I currently have an '81 Chev C20 to haul trailer, but I have a '76 J10 shortbox with J20 axles that will take it's place (as soon as someone with $1200 buys the Chev with 454/TH400 and 4 almost brand new 33/12.50 tires on alloy wheels I'll have the money to finish it.)
  12. :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: Dude, I'm 6 feet tall, 300 lbs and my wife is 5' 8" and much smaller. Been there, done that! "Only in an MJ!"
  13. It looks better on longbeds
  14. Not yet. Maybe I'll have time off in a year to make some!
  15. I have one for only $1,000. It comes with an '86 MJ (not yet attached) ;)
  16. Air brakes on the trailer help!
  17. They may think it's recruiting though.
  18. My 4 cyl got more economy (25 mpg average) with the lower octane stuff AND had more power. I drove to Ouray, CO in '02 with 3 adults, a canopy, tool box, spare parts and 3 spare tires (ended up needing all of them after my alignment was wrecked by a delivery truck in CO) Total weight was 6,000 lbs. 2.5L with almost 200,000 miles, ax-5, NP207, 4.10 gears and 30" tires. We cruised at 70 mph most of the way (I had to downshift only when I tried premium gas in the mountains) The reason for this is that modern higher octane fuels have additives that slow the burning rate and in so doing cut the power drastically but the motor doesn't ping.
  19. They probably think your "recruitment" is costing them advertising $$$
  20. Could have been one of my three sons. :D
  21. I'm from the Great White North, eh? I know nutbars and they are here too! (
  22. You would get more if it's organized.
  23. Copy and paste the message then keep changing who you are sending it to.
  24. Where's the pic of the MJ with a 5th wheel pulling a semi-trailer on the highway?
  25. Ditto on the resurface. It's not a stepped wheel. (I have several kicking around I won't need anymore)
