  1. Hopefully the vehicle you got the wiring from didn't have a factory alarm. You have to get it reset with the dealer's computer.
  2. You might want to think about the disc brake upgrade.
  3. There's also the T5, but unless it's had the World Class upgrade I wouldn't bother. My '83 J10 came with one, but it had been run low on oil so the synchro for at least 1 gear has welded itself to the main shaft. They come 23 or 21 spline (mine is 23)
  4. '79 and older FSJs have a pass drop. '80 up (till '91 with the last REAL GW) are driver's side drop.
  5. I think the NGKs I put in are 2288s (double ground cold heat range to stop ping)
  6. The vacuum is just for shifting the front axle. Perma-engage it (see bypassing the vacuum axle upgrades) and the floor shift does everything else.
  7. I'm going to spray mine with fiberglass resin and put it back in.

    oh deer?

I smacked one with my MJ in August on SR522 coming out of Monroe, WA (bent my right fender enough that it touched my 33" tires) No pics but the doe staggered off into the woods (called the State Patrol and they alerted Animal Control) and I pulled the fender back to almost where it was. (doe did more damage to the Olds it jumped onto before jumping in front of me, then it bounced off a car in the other lane before wandering away) I didn't have my light charged up (almost always is) or I would've followed the trail. Doubt she survived.

I'm working on making my big truck ('84 J10) into a combined LPG and electric rig. LPG is $1.65 a gallon here on a year's contract. Electric motor goes onto the tcase to drive the front wheels at the output shaft (with the tcase in neutral) at freeway speeds to save fuel.
  10. Too wide for MJs. You need Grand Wagoneer axles.
  11. Looks like the difference between the OEM and made in China hubs (I see them a lot at work)
  12. You might try putting a Chev flanged hub into the Jeep knuckle. I know a few people did it with Ford hubs so they can run the manual locking units.
  13. I found a long wobbly extension to do mine.
  14. First disconnect the EGR and make sure it isn't the "vacuum leak"
  15. Just to up the stakes a bit SOA with 5 1/2" coils in front and 33" tires. (at that time, 255/85/16 but now I have 33/9.50/15s)
  16. I currently don't have a wide enough angle lens to get a pic of all my Jeeps in one shot!
  17. Mopar took over Jeep in Sept '88 so it wasn't AMC's parts bin anymore. Pretty much it was when they switched to HO they went from non to C clip. (same with the 21 to 23 spline in AW4s)
  18. Could be the injectors are getting clogged (can of 44K by BG's fixed mine up but it's expen$ive!) Knock sensor is essentially a microphone than makes a signal when it hears certain pitches of noise in the range of engine knock (internal engine noises like clacking lifters can trigger it too) When there is a signal, the timing is retarded and slowly advances till it hears it again and "learns" where that point is and adjusts timing around it.
  19. I use the non-greaseable joints and hand grease them with the good stuff before assembling.
  20. Front diffs don't have a centered pumpkin
  21. Sad part is your insurance will go through the roof now that you were stupid. The main reason they put those regulations down is to see if you can follow simple rules before being given free reign on the road. That said, back in the day (mid '70s) I picked up my GF and her 5 sisters plus my brother after passing my road test and we drove across the border to go sledding on Mt Baker! (that '66 Vee Dub van went EVERYWHERE I pointed it till I broke the frame from rust and a turbo Mazda rotary engine)
  22. Looks good on a CRT screen. Closed knuckle is old school as in "Give me 40 acres and I'll turn this rig around!" Very wide turning radius. (the ball end design keeps you from making it any better too) Rear shackle was flipped to clear the 36" tires with a load on.
  23. You missed one! Boys in the bright white sportscar was the theme for the first season of Miami Vice. CW McCall did a LOT of great truckin songs. Edit: Tried to remember a song from just a couple years ago about a guy who bought a car and found a letter from the previous owner (who died in Nam I think) and it was called riding with Private Malone (took some googling to figure it out) http://www.minibite.com/america/malone.htm
  24. Looks more H3 than Humvee!
