  1. clogged hose (or cracked) to the MAP sensor. I jumped up to 18 mpg with 3.73 gears, 5 speed and 33" tires.
  2. Poor thing must have been really worn out. 400HP at what kind of torque? What exactly broke? I stomped on it and downshifted to second, taking out the planetary and front pump at the same time. The Monza was travelling on an angle up the highway at the time with wheels spinning.
  3. You got lucky. If there is ANY difference in diameter between your front and rear tires, then you're gonna break something. Unless you have Full Time, which will have a viscous coupling, therefore allowing the axles to sping at different speeds. Unless a 242 was swapped in, the only year with factory full time was '86 4 cyl or 2.8 V6 with NP229.
  4. Clean out the hose to the MAP sensor (and make sure it's not cracked) and look down the throttlebody to see if gas is leaking around the injector (it needs new Orings and gas economy will be crappy)
  5. They crack real easy.
  6. Just got home and gotta babysit
  7. Chev built the trans. Motor was @400 HP
  8. There is an adapter plate available to bolt the HO on Renix and vice versa. The stroker guys swap the bodies and match the sensors to the replacement body somehow. You can dremel the tangs for the HO intake to make it line up to the Renix head. (or you can get the Clifford Research intake for an HO system on a 4.2L and it will bolt to the Renix head too. (I dremeled the port of the head to clear the injector spray)
  9. I hooked my fan up by unplugging the AC compressor for the winter. When I put it to AC, the fan comes on.
  10. If you have a dent in the right side of the front bumper the vacuum ball may be crushed, which means the controls won't do as they are told either!

    towing

I've tow barred FSJs with my MJ (and vice Versa) but the dolly was sweet! (get one with brakes! Oh, and don't back up any inclines with it!)
  12. So I can sleep good at night knowing I will never have to worry about my tranny breaking I have killed a TH400 with an Iron Duke in front of it. Of course it had a turbo and NO2! LOL!
  13. I got one done by one of the great guys on POR.
  14. I have West COast mirrors to put on mine. My old truck had a swing away set that worked nice except for trails and narrow garages (and anyone driving it but me would smack them on stuff going forwards or backwards!)
  15. I thin it's 3.54 and lower gears on the same carrier. The whole diff's goodies would be trick because it's an ARB locker!
  16. I KNOW you guys will like the shirt my brother sent me a while back. Image Not Found
  17. I hit a small bridge bump while challenging my buddy to a drag race (my 318 with 340 crank and purple shaft cam '77 Plymouth Ruster against his 350 Camaro with circletrack cam.) I hit the bump at 110 mph and got airborne (ala Duke of Hazard, which was okay, but...) it started twisting sideways, but I rode it down and slide @30 feet and gunned it just in time to catch the next road on the left perfectly! I played it off like I did it intentionally and that gave me quite the street cred for a long time.
  18. I have a switch that engages the horn if someone hits the brakes. Cargard is the bomb tho! http://simjack.com:8185/cargard.htm Image Not Found
  19. Wish I had my shop ready to work in! (still planning stage) My buddy just got back from there (helicopter mechanic)
  20. longbox or shortbox?
  21. Do you still have that retarded load level valve? If so, it traps air in the return line to the master. Bypass the POS and your brakes should improve. They also need to be driven a bit to seat the brakes (OH! and make sure you don't have a brake pad caught up and acting like a springboard! Found several STOCK XJs and MJs that way with "bad brakes") as the calipers retract after touching the rotors. Did you run a strictly disc brake master? If not, there is a pressure retention valve needs to be pulled out. (under the master cyl line seats)
  22. Too much NOx leads to ping. Best way to delete the EGR is to swap in a '91 to '99 intake and exhaust.
  23. Be careful not to get much pressure into the heater core! Otherwise it will expand like an accordion and burst at the seams!
  24. If the antenna comes loose at the fender it loses ground. Or some dipstick yanks the radio out, the cable gets broken inside.
