  1. man, just looking at an old Jeep makes me want to jump in and drive!. even covered in snow. especially covered in snow! or maybe it's all because I haven't driven around in the snow in quite a while. stupid georgia weather. oh look... it's raining... again... the mountains must look just awesome!
  2. looks like a great trail rig maybe. especially if you lived in a perpetually dry area. although the smell might be a bit much to actually retain that "patina".
  3. I'm told that you can use XJ ones, just cut them short and carefully peen over the back end.
  4. technology for the win!
  5. he who can make the ones and zeros dance to his whim can mold the world to his liking.
  6. JK rims? they look good
  7. oh, the surprises you can find in old walls. decades upon decades of "upgrades" and "fixes" done by people that had no real idea how structure, water, or electrons really work.
  8. we had a link in the DIY section, but it looks like go-jeep's site changed so here's the updated link for speedo gear calcs: http://gojeep.willyshotrod.com/HowtoSpeedoGears.htm
  9. the tank is bolted to the bed, not the frame. but don't worry, if you're agile, you can swap the pump while under the truck. the opening is in the side of the tank, not the top. which wire did you apply 12 volts? and don't forget that it takes 12 volts and a good ground to activate the pump.
  10. yeah, if someone has a replacement idea, I'm all ears :)
  11. run through Cruiser's renix tips, especially the grounds and fuse box. should be like the first link in the DIY link in my sig. don't just do the one you think might fix it, do them all. Every MJ needs them all done.

    scam or not...

mostly I wanted it for working on my KJ. I was not looking forward to the suspension swap. but don't get me wrong, there are vast fields of carcasses down here that have never seen salt buuuut sometimes cars from the north come down here to die. for example the KJ that donated its light bar. that was a straight-up Michigan rig where I could see the carpet poking through to the underside.
  13. dont' sweat it, we like pics but be aware that the photo uploader sometimes chokes on huge files so you might need to spread out the pics into multiple posts. and other times it works just fine.
  14. also, be sure to fill out your signature with the basic truck specs.
  15. does the trans shift ok with the engine off? and for what it's worth, I've driven home without the clutch pedal. it's not fun, but very possible. it involves turning the truck off at each complete stop and using the starter motor to get the truck moving again. then it's just a matter of matching rpms to shift cleanly. it's not advised to try it in stop-n- go rush hour traffic though.
  16. windshield leaks are way-common. a latemodel XJ windshield gasket is a good upgrade.
  17. what gearing do you have now? if you skim through the epic tech forum, you'll find Mkyboy's supercharged 2.5L build.
  18. the link in my signature should have a link to Jeep's website. you'll need your VIN. but take the info you get from them with a grain of salt though, as some codes were reused over the years by Chrysler and so it may say some weird things like "longhorn package" when that actually applies to a newer Ram pickups and not an MJ. :)
  19. are you doing the work or paying a shop?
  20. I replaced mine with individual stainless steel bolts and fender washers.
  21. rebuild, as in what? replacing bearings, balljoints and tie-rods? brakes too? suspension?
  22. it is in the tank. keep in mind that it could be a lack of power or a lack of ground. do the rear lights work? one of the easiest things to check is the pump grounding location behind the drivers side taillight. there's also a connector right behind the drivers side rear tire that can get corrosion inside.
  23. playing around with 4" circles. I think they look about right.
  24. no individual part lasts forever, but there are trucks still on the road with over 400k or even 500k miles. some still rocking the original block and trans.
  25. gearing is your best bang for the buck. what size tires do you have?
