  1. you should put that question in the tech forum so more eyes will see it. (not everyone peruses the build threads)
  2. are you talking about the engine shutoff thingie? I'm referring to the 4-cylinder operation on the freeway. sorry for the confusion. my folks have both in their '16 Durango and we've bypassed the shutdown feature for good. But 24mpg on the highway is kinda nice for a 360hp beast
  3. location is everything. if you were deep in the rustbelt I'm sure the value would easily double. in the meantime, you should bring it over to Atlanta and I'll store it for you.
  4. are they problem prone?
  5. do the dodge trucks with the hemi have the cylinder shutdown? if so, when did that start?
  6. I imagine that backing up would be... challenging?
  7. if I understand it right, they use a system that lifts the boat up there on a lever bracket thingie. it's very scientific. or something.
  8. what the hell? you broke the giant chunk of steel trying to press out the bearings? sounds like a time to bring in the pros.
  9. the frames, the wiring, the everything was different enough that I just gave up swapping guts and went the the seats as-is. those 4 mounting points were the same generation to generation. just needed a bit of trimming on the one side and some safe guarding of the wires under the carpet.
  10. did you try heating the knuckle in the oven first? maybe throwing the bearings in the freezer?
  11. my '88 is insanely jealous of those numbers!
  12. just keep in mind that "new" doesn't necessarily equate to 100% reliable. I've seen reman engines fail. and I've seen chinese sensors fail right out of the box. try to get OEM/Mopar stuff whenever possible
  13. honestly, there is so little room in the cab there's no way I could go from front to back while driving so I'd never hack the cab like the Toy had, but you could bond it to the cab and simply remove the rear window for some access. although if you did that the heat/AC wouldn't work quite as well as factory.
  14. hauled it up north for a guy to cover the cost of fuel to pick up my 4.88 axles I never used. sorry it wasn't more interesting. although it was the worst fuel economy I ever got in the KJ. highway trip in the single digits fahrenheit outside and super windy gave me I think 12 mpg. that's Dakota RT territory right there.
  15. you need to determine the health of the engine using things like the compression and leakdown test. butt-felt "power loss" can easily be the result of fuel delivery or sensor issues and blowby could just be a CCV system that isn't up to snuff. also, 31" tires can suck the life out of any stock engine. you need the gearing that goes with those tires.
  16. another random pic I found of the KJ back in the day.
  17. that is a niiiiiiiice Jeep right there.
  18. not really an option when it's the only ride I brought up here. but winter is almost over, right? almost? over? any day now?
  19. 87-90 will all be fairly close. XJ too. but there will always be differences. even if you have a factory 88 manual and an 88 truck, you will find inconsistencies. Just the nature of the beast for vehicles made during the death of one company and transition to another.
  20. there are a few options for new/junkyard LED replacements in the link in my sig.
  21. wow, that was a nasty lookin' engine. nice work
  22. 4 panels are all aftermarket.
