  1. unless you're looking for an huge engine/harness swap, get a 4.0L from the start (that will eliminate the '86 MJs). rust free is the most important thing to me. floors are always suspect no matter how nice the outside is (they are prone to leaks getting under the carpet). obviously the condition of the bed matters little to you. they are trucks, so the bed can get a bit beat up over the years. 87-89.5 came with a weak stickshift, but it's easily swapped out for the later ones. essentially they got a little better each year, so all things equal I'd probably take a 91 over an 87, but I'd never turn down a good deal on an 87. These trucks are like Legos. you can build whatever you want. even 4wd bolts right in to a 2wd without modifying the body. there's a thread at the top of this forum about the "most important tips" that will have lots of good, um, tips.
  2. swb or lwb won't matter on this, MJs are all ridiculously long compared to wranglers. in a good way of course.
  3. I tend to gravitate back to CC for my Liberty needs. Always seems to be someone around with the answer I seek. well, here and google. Facebook will be the death of us all. they are like the walmart of the internet. a one-stop shop with a little bit of everything, but doesn't really do anything all that well.
  4. yes. but keep in mind at that height different trucks can have different needs and if yours is super sloppy than a longer yoke will help. :)
  5. 6 or 7" has been done with regularity. we have a much longer wheelbase than XJs and wranglers and so the angles are far less extreme. having said that, the SYE is a great upgrade if you've got the cash. and new shafts for non-SYE setups are not expensive.
  6. very nice! did you install the under-bed brackets that go with the bar?
  7. almost forgot to plug in the Jeep last night. got in and took off my coat and boots before I had that nagging thought if I did it or not. that would have sucked. it's a balmy 9* outside. I wonder how long the heater would have taken to get it to starting temp...
  8. I can't say for sure, but the chevy idea definitely has merit. for better or for worse AMC used a ton of parts from other manufacturers.
  9. it might be a duplicate to the one above, but there's a link to an 88 manual in the link in my signature.
  10. I have a feeling that he t-stat needs replacing. it's probably stuck open. there's no way in hell I'm doing that now though. that's a job for 2 weeks from now when I'm back in GA.
  11. michigan.
  12. also, I'm heading out for the evening so I may not respond right away.
  13. have them in my hands right now ok, maybe not right now, since I'm typing. If you would like some, send me a PM with a name/address. If you'd like to donate something, the Paypal ID is: ComancheClub@hotmail.com otherwise just ask and I'll message you back an address for check/MO/cash/boxtops/etc. They are about 6" across. there are no prices. if you want one, it's yours! if you want to donate to help the CC, that's great too! please don't ask how much you should send. I don't want to answer that 50 times. for new members who haven't yet received your club magnet and cards, I'll mail them out as soon as I get back to GA (forgot to bring the magnets up with me )
  14. the cardboard is behind the grille and on the left and right 3rds (e fan blocks the center), as close as I can get to the rad, but it doesn't touch. and I've only got 1 surviving glow plug so a block heater is in play anytime I'm stopped longer than an hour or 2 or else I'm pretty screwed. I may try to wrap the grille completely with some fabric and see if that makes a difference while driving. going down to 10 tonight. um... factory?
  15. I don't remember reading anything bad about General Spring and the couple guys I can think of that bought them really like them. don't throw the old packs out though, someone else might be able to use them.
  16. don't tempt me. there are definitely days I'd like to set it ablaze.
  17. any ideas out there for getting my CRD KJ up to "normal" operating temps in the frigid temps? I've blocked the grill as best I can with cardboard, but I'll be danged if I can keep it at even 1/4 on the temp gauge. Fortunately the interior heat works great and it's just my fuel economy that suffers.
  18. I keep telling myself that the best way to learn is from other people's mistakes, but my brain doesn't seem to listen.
  19. every single possible point of entry has leaked for someone at some time. they are all suspect. my 86 was leaking at the top of the windshield, running inside the A-pillar and trickling down to become a puddle on the floor.
  20. does the 92 already have the later model adapter to allow for the bigger oil filter? have you upgraded your brake booster yet? have you run through all of Cruiser's applicable MJ tips? grounds in particular. headlight relays?
