what about just using regular paint? rattle can paint jobs are easy to do (prep is everything), can look good, and easy to touch up. whatever you do, do NOT accidentally plug and of the body drain holes (the rockers and door drains are super easy to overlook). I found that out the hard way when I paid a company to spray my rockers way back when. also, welcome to the addiction!

proof that even the best Jeep projects are never finished.

she's lookin' great! how long before you think she'll be driving? glad it was something cheap. tech Q's from the op should really go in the tech forum so more eyes will see them. not everyone checks the build threads (it's their loss of course)

What Minuit knows about stock Jeep radios
Pete M replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
as soon as you hit 10 posts, the classifieds will open up to you. also, ebay and rockauto.com are decent. car-part.com can help with junkyard searches. -

Minuit sells them. just send him a message -
I mean, it's worth whatever a buyer is willing to pay, right? you can ask 20k, but it doesn't mean there's a buyer for it at that price. 8k is definitely the higher end of price. The condition certainly seems pretty good, but keep in mind your truck has the less desirable peugeot trans, no AC, and is a pioneer trim rather than top-o-the-line. to get 8k, you might have to actually pull back the carpet and snap pics of pristine floor boards. Moisture under the carpet is insanely common for these trucks and that rot is horrible to have to deal with. Paperwork and other documentation can help a lot in attracting the high end buyers, so flaunt what ya got. It's certainly not legal, but it is possible to fake the mileage in the old trucks. Oh, and the build sheet is sometimes found tucked under the bench seat or behind the drivers door panel. but yes, you need to post elsewhere in the forums a few more times before the classifieds opens up.

it's been a while, but if I remember right, it takes the flat screwdriver-like end.

according to Crawl magazine. certainly less than I thought, but there are infinite possibilities for add-ons and mark ups. I do wonder if Chrysler will try to tamp down on price gouging for the first batch... place your bets now for how long it takes to see the first Hemi transplant pop up. secondary bet, will the very first be a normal hemi, or a suped up model?

the perforated vinyl? I haven't seen a decent pair in a long while now. that stuff just does not age well. But they can be recovered by an automotive upholstery shop. there are also cloth buckets out there that came with the top of the line MJ/XJs.

those are unlike any mirror I've ever seen and do not show up in the brochures or my parts manual. I think they are aftermarket (possibly added on by a dealership). if you're looking for a mirror upgrade, the 97+ mirrors go right on and are big enough to be useful.

a million if you take good care of her. but seriously, we've got a couple members who have over 500k on original engines

there's gotta be some sort of contraption that allows a cut corner but using a long pole instead of assembling the monkey bars.

Considering buying an 88 MJ
Pete M replied to the hiking viking's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
for a rotted pile of rust? I wouldn't take it if it came free to me with some extra money in the glovebox. although other people might pay slightly over scrap value for it. -
not a chance in hell. this little baby is going to live a pampered life just as you see it now (except with headrests and the broken items fixed). Or at least as pampered as I can give it seeing as I don't own a climate controlled garage. (not yet at least)

about an hour away. faaaar too close to not go and at least take a look. I mean, what could it hurt?

brought my nicer set of gray MJ buckets out of storage to clean them up. I've got a week of anticipation ahead of me, so I figure I need to do something MJ related. oh, and I also ordered a headlight relay harness. (I'm also starting work on the Dakota, but that's not an MJ so it doesn't really count here)

all I can add is that the XJ shackle is only good for 1/2" drop in height and brings with it the chance of inversion if the truck goes up on a lift because it's shorter (it can invert on the way down when weight is put back on the suspension). It's not the end of the world as long as you remember it and make sure it doesn't happen. Inversion of the shackle will essentially bend the main back on itself.

Best XJ model to use for 2wd 4wd swap
Pete M replied to rockincrawler's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
or just buy any cheap 4x4 2.5/5speed XJ of any year that you can find and swap later model shafts into the front. worry about finding a stronger rear axle for later. gearing is more important. (any 03-05 4banger liberty will have 4.10 gears in their 8.25 plus it's a couple inches wider plus it has disks already) does this project have enough budget for regearing the axles? -
yeah, I can't wait to have a street legal MJ again.
