  1. to each his own. that certainly seems to be inline with modern fads.
  2. well, when it comes to the plates, they only give us 7 digits to work with in Michigan and Georgia. there's room for 8! give us just one more!
  3. they swap right in. but they are prone to leaks (both water and wind) so be careful of the ones you buy.
  4. I would check every connection along the way including the resistor pack for corrosion. did you clean the grounds?
  5. welcome to the club! If you haven't read through this thread yet, it's a good place to start:
  6. if you've got one lying around this one has a tape deck now so I guess I should use a matching one. I've never done a resto before.
  7. is it the original resistor pack?
  8. I don't think it's the muffler. Cats go bad all the time and cause way more backpressure but that doesn't cause knocking. I would revisit the flex plate, just to be sure.
  9. there's a connector in the harness right behind the drivers side rear tire that's known for corrosion issues inside. the ground flows through it.
  10. chinese crap is crap. 'tis a fact of life. I assume you checked for power and ground at the pump's harness?
  11. after learning what it would take to get my new truck properly covered in michigan, we're now debating making it my father's truck and plating it in Georgia. still limited to 7 characters, but now MANCHE is available. but I don't think I can get away with AMCJEEP since they specifically ban trademarked words. I guess I could still do AMC JP but I like it less. I could do something like JPTRUCK and maybe crush some future gladiator owners' dreams.
  12. are we the host?
  13. no kidding!
  14. I do what I can
  15. I like the idea of custom packs from junkyard leafs. but there are other flat-leaf springs out there. no need to limit yourself to XJs. car-part.com shows some XJ packs in Rowley for 35
  16. bumpstops can be lengthened to control the uptravel. (and technically limiting straps can be added to control down travel)
  17. nope. I don't see it either. is that the link in the DIY forum? seems we need another host.
  18. in the pile of paperwork. I think I have a receipt for every little thing done to the truck. He probably remembers the for sale ad from a few days ago. I'll add in that detail to my original post.
  19. I used stainless bolts and fender washers for the flares on my trailer. I didn't even do every hole. I think it was 5 per side.
  20. great work so far! So glad to see someone taking the time to repair the ol' girl.
  21. both are fantastic upgrades
  22. the studs are made of such crappy metal that they are more or less sacrificial. have a plan for re-installation after most of them snap off. (and I would rather snap them off myself than pay the painter to fight/fail with them)
  23. yeah, so they kinda need to be posts that aren't related to what you're trying to use this site to sell. nice truck though how about stating a build thread to tell us all about it?
  24. you only need 10 posts in other forums to have the classifieds open up to you
