how bad is the rot? how pristine do you want it to be in the end? from all accounts, the aftermarket parts (if they still exist) suck. factory replacements are few and faaaaaaar between. front fenders can be used as patches if they cover the size of the hole and if you're not looking for museum level perfection in the end. clean beds from down south and out west can still be found but shipping can be a challenge.

it's about as easy as welding can get. any automotive or muffler shop can do it.

oh my. that's a problem right there...

just move the perches. even if you fix the rear shackle distance, the perches still won't match the front leaf mounting points distance apart. you can even use this opportunity to get some anit-wrap perches.

one idea that my buddy showed me: put a layer of sacrificial plywood on the top. you're going to beat the snot out of it anyway and this way you can easily replace it.

entirely possible that it's broken inside and 5th gear is unavailable.

pulled the carpet of the new truck back out of the pile it was under only to discover that the sun had faded it pretty bad around the trans tunnel. I didn't notice that when I first yanked the carpet out.
