that depends on what gears you need and what gears are in the axle you find.- 26 replies

research, research, research. and then once you've got all the data you can find but still no obvious path, flip a coin

I blame @krustyballer16 for getting this one stuck in my head the last couple days.
-
soak them every day for a week. they are decent size bolts, but rust is rust. half are studs, half are nuts. all are on the bed, meaning the frame is just a pass through hole.

the thought has previously occurred to me that if a member volunteered to provide room, I could drop off items at a semi-centralized location that could later be picked up at the buyer's leisure. problem with that is I strongly prefer to be there when the buyer takes possession. these are all used parts after all. there are reasons I don't sell on ebay. 4 beds down. 3 to go (I have to wait a couple days since I need a hand moving them out into the open). I really need to invent a roller device so I can move them around by myself.

wait, how can they share the same sending unit if "full" is different for each?
-
so one would just need the different sending unit and tocut off that vent tube to gain a ton of gas capability? or skip the sending unit and just have a "full" tank for a long time before it started registering on the gauge. this seems too easy...

are the 16 and the 23.5 the same outside dimensions?

C.R. Laurence Rear Slider Questions.
Pete M replied to MontanaManche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
normally I'd say a couple of these might do it, but I was young once and could eat an entire pizza and not gain an ounce. -
working for a livin' be sure to find the MJs working thread in the Pub. that pic needs to be there.

Has anyone bought parts from EXT Offroad?
Pete M replied to Vineyard86manch's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
the big question is, do they actually have one or is that something you find out as you try to buy and then it says out of stock. any muffler shop can fab up what you need. -
Front vs Rear lift heights
Pete M replied to Cali Steve's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
chances are good that brand new springs will sit a bit higher than you want until they break in. I would go with the 3.5 and if later down the road you need a bump in the back, add the longer shackles. -
@Streetcomanche sc have you added your VIN to the registry yet?
-
it certainly looks driving down the street but the blue interior, peugeot and dana 35 might hold you back from the big bucks.

Suspension and Tire options
Pete M replied to CptVanGuard's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
cherokees have a foot shorter driveshaft and so the angles are more steep than MJs. BUT, you could still have some minor vibes from the simple change in operating angle. a well-worn Ujoint doesn't like that. don't regear a dana 35. find a better axle (44, 8.25, 8.8) and invest you money into that.- 26 replies

91 was the first wrangler year that got the fuel injected 4.0. I think the 2.5 was injected 87-90? old Jeeps are old Jeeps. if you care for them, they will take care of you. the big problem is POs who don't care enough to bother. whatever you do, don't buy a rusty wrangler.

well, I'm glad I took the time to wash them as I've found some previously unseen flaws. a bit of bondo on one, a bit of rust in another, and a wren's nest in a third. fantastic. and I've been crunching the numbers and I don't think beds alone will make this fly. gas alone could easily top a grand if I do a longer route (for example wisconsin and pennsylvania). so I'll start digging through the barn for other items I'll never want to ship: seats, rockers, carpet, headliners, etc. but I might need to limit myself to 4 beds in order to have space for other items (stacking them horizontal gives cargo space, transporting them vertically does not). but of course that cuts into the bottom line. and I still haven't figured out how to do any of this in a fair manner. I have a feeling some guys are going to be upset with me no matter what I do.

C.R. Laurence Rear Slider Questions.
Pete M replied to MontanaManche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
if you want a true pass-through, ya gotta get creative there's a guy in Mexico that's installing a ford explorer sporttrac rear window (and the associated sheetmetal). pretty sure it rolls all the ways down in the Ford. he just didn't show that. -
the earlier years have a lot of missing info. the real sheet is much longer, even for base trucks. but a basement flood ruined a ton of paperwork before it could get into Chrysler's computers. our hope is that someday we can piece together the majority of it if we get enough trucks' printouts.

@jbain got any update? I know you do.
