is there a mopar part number for the hitch?

@VintageJC out of curiosity, are you using a phone or a laptop to upload? if phone, apple or android? were all the pics taken with the phone/camera in the same orientation?

is the thick center plate between the front half and the rear half made of steel or aluminum? hit it with a magnet real quick.

I can't seem to find a photo from the back side, but the 2 tails of these 2 AX-15s are different. (ignore the circled peugeot) maybe early AX-15s or maybe dakota AX-15s had a different tail piece? a side photo should clear this up in a heartbeat.

what is the 44 front from?

you've got choices for the front axle. you can regear what you've got or try and find a 4.10 XJ dana 30. get the right axle and it'll come with the bigger ujoints. 94-99 I think? or you can source shafts from a late XJ or TJ and get the same joints in your current axle.

not all 30s and 44s are the same. the newer batch under JKs/JLs are wider and have a different bolt pattern. but they've been installed before, so you're not blazing any new trails. we might have a thread in Epic? I've never paid more than 150 for a junkyard axle. pennies compared to the 5-6 hundred that regearing will cost. plus there's the heartbreak when you later break the 35 and the money is gone. now, a shortcut would be to focus on finding an axle with 4.10 gears and then stick with that ratio. car-part.com might be able to find you one. search for 97-01 XJ 8.25, or 03-04 KJ, or 95-01 Explorer. that's how I settled on 4.10s for my 88. it was a factory option for the old broncos and I found one. at the time my budget was quite restricted and compromises had to be made. it's an ok ratio. get's the job done. but if I was paying for the whole enchilada, it's the same cost to install 4.10s as it is for 4.56 or 4.88 so I'd go with the deeper ratios. you can clean off the extra bracketry yourself with a grinder, and then pay a local to burn on the leaf perches for ya. keep doing research and reading on what others have done. research if free.
