prices for the nice trucks aren't going to go down, that's for sure.

it's been done in actual race MJ/XJs. fitting that rollcage kinda sucks with a dash in the way. seems like a lot of work though. I did the lazy man's version by removing the glovebox door and making it a shelf.
-
the background is a little darker and it has a rollbar now. fancy! I still need to figure out how many I can put in an envelope and still use a stamp, but they are essentially ready for anyone that wants some. send me a message with an address and I'll get them in the mail.

if you so desire, you can swap a radiator with a cap into the older trucks without changing anything else. you will still need to bleed the system. best way is actually through that same sensor hole after pointing the truck downhill (so the back of the block is the highest point). just be sure to do it when the engine is cold this time.

every project has surprises. I did the swap near 20 years ago so I'm sure there's something I'm forgetting.

Recommendations for Speakers
Pete M replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
the speakers I put in the KJ and the Cruiser were about 25-30 a pair. plenty good enough for a radio with an internal amp. of course in the KJ I stole the rear outputs and fed them into a cheap "1000w" amp for my subwoofer. there's no way it's actually putting out 1k, but it's good enough for a noisy diesel Jeep. -
I have a TJ trans/t-case in my 88. you'll want to reuse your MJ shifter handle assembly. bellhousing is fine. the TJ trans will clock (rotate) the t-case up a bit closer to the floorboards. mine is very close but never touched. and I appreciate the bit of extra ground clearance. far as I know your trans mount assemblies should work fine with the new trans. I had a peugeot before and so had to invent a bunch of that because the pegeot and AX-15 share almost nothing. the SYE is not recquired at only 4" of lift, but it is a good strength upgrade. now;s the time to do a good looksie into the health of the new AX-15. you don't want to install it and then find out the gears are all chewed up.

which would you repalce first?
Pete M replied to Pete M's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm not sure I can even get the crossmember to separate from the transmission without a sawzall. but I'm doing a 4wd swap and I have a spare crossmember so I guess I don't need to. -
superduty axles are very popular these days. they are becoming semi-plentiful in the junkyards. just make sure you don't accidentally buy the dana 50 front axle, which was used in some superdutys. they all have a metric 8bolt wheel pattern, so I would grab the 10.5 rear axle to go with it. (I think it was the 10.25 that was the smaller axle used on some). my buddy had an '03 with the 60/10.5 combo and it tore me up a little that he junked it after the accident rather than build something with it. https://torqueking.com/category/2005-2016-ford-dana-super-60-front-axle-id/#:~:text=Ford uses Dana Super 60,F550 Super Duty 4x4 trucks.

@eaglescout526 no dealership on this one?

rotted battery cables smashed crossmember smashed oil pan radiator and heater core full of rusty nastiness instead of any trace of antifreeze tail harness hacked up so bad none of the lights worked right it's hypothetical of course, because the answer is: all of the above. this poor truck suffers immensely from a condition I call previousowneritis. but all of these items (and many, many more) will be fixed before handing it back to the owner.

with less than 20,000 in existence, all MJs are special.

how on earth is it that I can't find a 3rd-brake/cargo-light unit that's flush mount? everything that I find has depth and requires cutting a giant hole. and things that are flush only do brakes or cargo. and yes, I'm sure it's because they are simply replicating factory units (where the trucks already have the hole). I'm just frustrated that more people aren't looking to custom wire their trucks to justify the aftermarket getting off their butts and making the thing I want.

the 91-92 sportrucks decals (the squiggly ones) are rare, but that's mostly because all 91-92s are rare.

Starts then shuts off immediately

yeah, just a dribble. I prefer to put the gas into a small cup first so I have more control over the pouring. -
brand new dak lights are cheap.

have you tried dumping fuel into the throttle body? -

not the relay, the pump resistor. did you mess with the resistor at all? -

Pete M replied to Zadouw's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've heard of pumps being able to build pressure, but have no flow behind it. might be time to test for flow. did you say you applied 12v to the pump resistor? -
Starts then shuts off immediately
Pete M replied to Zadouw's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
does it start then stop immediately as if the key was turned off? or does it chug a bit and die? does it turn off when the key is turned back to run? or does it stay running for a second or 2 longer?
