Renix/HO mashup questions (fuel pressure)
HOrnbrod replied to JeepComanche89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
They are on both Ebay and Amazon for ~$70-$90 /ea. Sure would be nice if a unit like this were available for the HOs. -
Question: Transmission disconnect lines
HOrnbrod replied to coolwind57's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Amazingly you can get still the real the Mopar quick-connector union on Amazon for $18.41. I don't use Dorman C.R.A.P. unless I have to, but I am glad they market parts like this. Like where else can you find the wiper arm bushings? -
JK rear shocks fully extended length are 23.150". Might be a bit short on up travel depending on how your lift comes out with extended shackles and new leafs. Are you going with MT rear springs or stock 4-leaf replacements?

Renix/HO mashup questions (fuel pressure)

^^ If you don't want to do it right, just throw some 4-holers in and see how it runs according to your butt dyno like most everyone does. -
Renix/HO mashup questions (fuel pressure)
HOrnbrod replied to JeepComanche89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
With a mishmash setup like that, and w/o knowing if any intake/exhaust port matching was done, you would have to get creative to do it right. I would go with a mid-range Bosch 4-holer injector, like the -703 "Neon" injectors. To dial them in you would need to get rid of your fixed pressure regulator and replace it with an adjustable like the Hesco unit, then monitor the resulting air/fuel ratio with an A/F meter. That's to do it right. If you don't want to do it right, just throw some 4-holers in and see how it runs according to your butt dyno like most everyone does. -
^^ Looks a lot better than those stupid LED light bars.

I have an old Simpson 260 I've had since the mid-70's. I don't use it much except when I need to do variable output measurements. Still working on all functions like new. It looks like the below except much more beat up.

Better cooling for the Comanche?
HOrnbrod replied to johnj92131's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Plumbed up the new cooler in series with the factory cooler and bypassed the radiator cooler. Been driving around a couple of days and the tranny never goes above 165* now. Before the norm was ~190* - 210*. Engine temps are unchanged at 200* - 210*. We'll see how it is when it gets real cold here, like below freezing. But that might not be until next fall. -
The 88 Electrical Manual shows the 12V to the pump is ORN, Ground is BLK, and the sender wire is VIO. Test these inputs on the tank 3-pin connector and make sure they match up correctly with the three sender wires.

Aw4 shift solenoids
HOrnbrod replied to Strokermjcomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Did the shift points and engagement change much with the TransGo kit? For better or worse? -
You should use an analog meter to test linearity.

Thanks. Some make it, some don't. Weird........
-
Are you doing these tests with the motor connected? If so you are just reading the resistance through the windings. Make sure the pump motor is disconnected.

With fuel pump sender assembly out of the tank and fuel pump motor disconnected, ohm out all three (ground, power, and fuel level) wires to the sender frame. The ground wire only should read continuity. Also ohm out the two legs of the sender potentiometer while moving the arm slowly up and down. It should read the full value of the pot (~100 ohms or so) and decrease slowly w/o skipping to continuity. I think the pot sender wire (or the pot winding itself) is shorted to the pump frame in one of it's swing positions and killing your 12V supply.

Looks like it might be a bolt-in for the HOs by using the existing brake switch and losing the one on the booster arm.

Stant products used to be golden. Now they are outsourced like most everything else and are junk. Get the Mopar factory stat.

Drip irrigation tubing looks like some pretty rugged polyethylene flexible tubing. Might even be an upgrade over the plastic vacuum tubing the factory used if it's sized correctly.

Stick a timing light on the #1 plug and see where it's firing at using the timing marks on the balancer and timing cover. You can't time it, but the light will tell you if it's way advanced or retarded.

Clunking and knocking when starting up
HOrnbrod replied to NCardwell's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes you did - very perceptive Dirty. UB da man. Hopefully the OP didn't bugger up the ring gear and/or starter drive gear too badly....... -
It should because it's a Mopar. I tried a few 1990 VINs I found on the Comanche Registry forum and none of them returned any data.

Freeze Plug Frustrations
HOrnbrod replied to coolwind57's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
HOW TO to replace Welsh plugs. Sidenote: What do you think the typical auto parts chain store counter drone would do if you asked for a set of Welsh plugs for your rig? -
^^ This. You only use the spacer with the 95-96 XJ boosters. That's one of the reasons I used the XJ booster instead of the WJ so I wouldn't have to hack up the firewall.

Anyone with a 1990 MJ tried this site and received any build sheet results?
