The actual files Windows backup creates have .xml and .vhd extensions. The folder they are stored is named WindowsImageBackup.

Thanks all. I really don't want to send backup data over the internet, especially using my Mom and Pop phone company DSL internet connection. That's the only game in town here unless I go with a satellite outfit like Hughsnet or similar. But I pay all my bills online so I guess using a personal cloud for storage/backup isn't anymore risky than that. And yeah - I have a lot to learn. Even though I'm as protected as I can be from lightning strikes wiping out everything, a tornado could roll through here anytime (as they often do) and wipe out everything. Then I'd be sorry as hell I didn't have all my data stored somewhere in a cloud... AAARRRGGG

Thanks for the cloud backup info, and my apologies to Jeep Driver. He also said "Some people don't like doing that but.........." (using the cloud for storage) - I'm one of those people. I'm concerned about security. i.e. account passwords, things like that. How do you get around that?

That's nice. Anyone know the answer?

Question for the computer geeks: I've had a couple of hard drive failures in the past, and now have a Western Digital external drive on which I periodically back up my main hard drive. It creates a directory on the external called WindowsImageBackup. I've never had to restore a hard drive, and I hope I never do. But if it happens and I replace the bad hard drive with a new one, click on restore and point it to this external backup file, does Windows restore all my files and directory structure exactly as it was on the date the backup file WindowsImageBackup was created? Like a mirror image? Just want to know what to expect if I ever have to do it........

HO speedometer question
HOrnbrod replied to DirtyComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Back when I was playing with XJ/MJ dash gauges I had an old function generator that would put out a square wave @ ~ 2V peak-to-peak or so. I used that as a input to the HO speedos on the bench and got variable indicated speeds by changing the frequency of the square wave. This was just an ops check, but I had no idea how to calibrate the speedo based on the inputs. -
THIS site has some good info.

^^^ Most redneck so far. The "window" is even hinged for proper air circulation.

HO speedometer question
HOrnbrod replied to DirtyComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The speed sensor does feed the TCU and ECU, along with the distance sensor. It's processed along with other inputs then a variable square wave is sent to the speedo. How it happens I have no clue. The speedo is definitely not stand alone. Good idea though Dirty. The 91-92 is unique with a 3-wire speed sensor; it was changed to the more common 2-wire in 93. You could always work in an aftermarket unit somehow........ -
Pretty sure Grant sells Jeep logo horn buttons for their wheels. What's the wheel diameter?

Yep, the old rock and a hard place syndrome......

Well, it's legal in all states AFAIK as long as the vehicle has both left and right exterior rear view mirrors mounted, so no violation. I wouldn't care for it at all though...

With the spare and whatever else mounted on that bumper rear visibility looks like it might be a bit limited....

In order for the fuel gauge to indicate accurately the fuel level, resistance of the sender level potentiometer which rises and falls with the float arm must match the internal coil resistance of the fuel gauge meter movement to get full-scale meter deflection. With a 96 sender and 9? fuel gauge in whatever year MJ you have, that's obviously not happening. Thus you see nonlinear gauge needle movement. As far as the empty when full and vice-versa indication that's because the polarity of the fuel sender pot windings is opposite from your fuel gauge + and - terminals and the gauge is reading backwards. -
Renix/HO mashup questions (fuel pressure)
HOrnbrod replied to JeepComanche89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
True, but the DTCs are all static and you can't select a particular sensor or function and monitor it in real time while driving on a single dash display. -
It will tell you the advance or not from TDC, and also if it's flaky (jumping around) or not. Suggest you invest in a decent timing light.

I've read that most folks who install a cowl intake regret it later because the loud sucking noise inside the cab drives them crazy eventually. Instead of a cowl intake, consider routing the intake tube down to to the left front where the original intake opening is. You can do this with 3" elbows and adapters to place it right where you want it. I used a 40 degree elbow for my application. Spectre sells these parts, and also carries a nice heat shield for the cone filter.
