Check for fault codes. https://comancheclub.com/topic/28111-reading-obdi-91-and-92-mj-fault-codes/

The older (square body) S10 is the MJ's closest relative as far as bed size. Looks like it fits well.

New Grill Push Nuts and Screws
HOrnbrod replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Why would you not want to do business with Team Cherokee? Never had a problem with them. They are about the only reliable source for the expendable and unique "bits" that all our MJs need sooner or later. I'm glad they are around and stock these pieces for reasonable prices. -
Si. Try doing microwave link path studies from mountaintop HF towers that you have to be helo-ed into. Lots of fun.
-
Can't argue with that.
-
Yes, it works. It rotates, makes noise, and draws power. Might not provide much cooling for you come summer though..
-
That's a good goal - hope you achieve it. I used to work at the flight clubs (Fort Eustis, VA then Cubi Point, Philippines) for flight time, and flew mostly 172's and 150's. We called them flying tractors, but they were rugged and very forgivable. Wish I had kept it up, but job assignments wouldn't allow it.
-
Yep, I remember that. I flew a little bit back in the late 70s - early 80s. Never a Bonanza though, just Cessna flying club stuff.

Those Beech Bonanza's are sweet with that sexy v-tail.

New Grill Push Nuts and Screws
HOrnbrod replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Most all of all Team Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, etc. etc. ad descriptions sound the same - too much repetition and more info than you really need. Their ad writer thinks more is better I guess... -
I'm surprised you got that much with a blown transmission. Was it still driving or dead in the water?

No shroud? W/o a shroud it's just a noisy ornament.

I think everyone needs some of these. I know I did; most of the plastic nuts were stripped out and you couldn't tighten the screws. I did find a few NOS Mopar push nuts, but they were like $5/ea. so I looked elsewhere. Found a complete 16-piece aftermarket set from Team Cherokee and they work just as well as the originals. You can also use the push nuts for mounting the license plate. Just thought I'd share, thought this was a good deal.. http://teamcherokee.com/grille-fastener-screw-nut-16-piece-set-cherokee-comanche-1987-1996/

Ticking after engine shut down
HOrnbrod replied to coolwind57's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I remember after my 01 intake manifold swap the ticking noises after shutdown were much more pronounced than before. It ran great, so I wasn't concerned about it. I attributed it to the better sealed intake and exhaust manifolds due to the new gaskets, but that was just a guess. It eventually seemed to die down, or maybe I just got used to it. -
Would be nice if all the measurements were made by the same meter, or at least all using calibrated meters. This is good stuff. Sure would help if we had some more participants.

The 84-93 XJ / MJ fuse panels themselves are identical, p/n J4179458. The only differences were how the terminals are populated. These can be found in several places, like: https://www.waytekwire.com/item/32030/PACKARD-56-SERIES-MALE-12-GA/ and http://www.repairconnector.com/products/Brass-ATO-Fuse-Block-Terminals-10-Pack.html

Looking at your side view, it sure doesn't look like you have a 4.5" lift now if you have 31's mounted. Don't know why you would want to be that high with the camper anyhow - induces severe wallow city. I got about a 3" lift when I first installed the MT springs; they settled down about an inch over the first year. You can add longer shackles like the Teraflex's to bring it back up. I have a Leer shell on, but it's only about 1/5 the weight of your camper. 31's w. 4.10's gears the truck a bit lower than factory stock stock gearing. You'll be turning about 250-300 RPM higher than stock for the same equivalent speeds. Gear any lower than that and you will hurt mileage, especially on the freeway. And yes, a Track-lok LSD would definitely help with that extra weight. I think the coil-over shocks will be better than adjustables for side-to-side body roll control as they will adapt quicker. Reducing the side-to-side will also reduce the frame stressing. These are just starting mandatory recommendations IMHO. Maybe it won't cure all the probs you are having, but it just might. Start with these or similar, then worry about frame gusseting, airbags, etc. later if you have to.

Junk the Crustys junk in the back and get some metric tonne MJ 5-leaf springs and Monroe 58497 or similar coil/overload shocks like the below to start. If still sagging consider an air bag system. Any rear axle upgrade (D44, Ford 8.8, Chrysler 8.25) will be much better than the D35. Gearing is dependent on tire size. The bigger your tires, the lower the gears should be. Ideal for 31" tires is 4.10 gearing to keep it reasonably close the factory final drive specs. I think you should stay SUA to keep the center of gravity as low as possible. A rear sway bar is super for keeping things flat, but you will have to fab your own like I did. ADDCO does make one for the MJ SWB truck, but it's poorly designed and doesn't work well. It's attached to the upper shock bolts w "L" brackets. After you get the back end fairly stable, you'll probably need to get rid of the Crusty's front coils for stiffer ones, and upgrade your brakes to stop that heavy mass by converting to rear disks at minimum.

No clue what you're driving and how it's set up. Consider adding a signature so everyone doesn't have to guess and/or assume. https://comancheclub.com/topic/51707-cc-members-create-a-signature-to-describe-your-mj/

Tera-flex sells a lift kit for an MJ? That's news to me... Also, you are asking a lot of questions regarding your "new" MJ. W/o pictures of your problem(s), especially since it's not a stock MJ, everyone is just guessing how it's set up.

Proportioning Valve Swaps
HOrnbrod replied to ShortBox88's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Clearly it's not. It's a 97+ washer reservoir inside the fender. Makes for lots of room.. https://comancheclub.com/topic/5536-new-windshield-washer-tank-installed/- 14 replies

Yep, you're correct Dirty - thought I read they were for the regular D44's. Should have known better - all Northridge sells now is JK stuff....

Me too. Here's a killer deal on genuine Dana Spicer 5.13 gears: https://www.northridge4x4.com/part/ring-pinions/2020752-dana-dana-44-rear-gear-set-5-13
