  1. For those of you who do 4 wheel in warm to hot climates, back in the 1960's my brother and I drag raced a 57 chevy with a 327 in "cheater stock" and took eliminator once with it. We ran the fuel line through a coffee can with ice in it as close to the carb as possible to cool and condense the fuel. Learned that from other racers. Don't know it it would work on injected engines, and if we only "thought" it helped, but it seemed to improve performance. I am sure it would bring mileage down a bit, but, hey, when you are mashing to the floor for a quarter mile the throttle of an engine that already only got about 10 mpg, didn't matter a bunch!
  2. For those with "old" looking taillights, remember this one: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=14425&p=150367&hilit=polish#p150367
  3. Grew up in Coos Bay, 1950 to 1979. If you return, tell them Doug Good, graduate of Marshfield in 1966, says hi!
  4. Had several members of churches I have served have this. It can happen again. Thankfully they can get it back in rhythm. Blessings!
  5. Here's one: http://www.downeyproductsnortheast.com/sst.html
  6. Sry = Sorry. I text very little, but daughter and wife do a lot. Texting usually writes things like the original hebrew language, using only consonants, and no vowels, or uses a single letter that sounds like the word, like u = you. Sound it out and you will get the word.
  7. Per SNOPES: "CORRECTY ATTRIBUTED" http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/starner.asp Subject: Health Care Crisis! Amazing how quickly he was able to get it all said!!! A young physician by the name of Dr. Starner Jones wrote a short two-paragraph letter to the White House accurately puts the blame on a "Culture Crisis" instead of a "Health Care Crisis". It's worth a quick read: Dear Mr. President: During my shift in the Emergency Room last night, I had the pleasure of evaluating a patient whose smile revealed an expensive shiny gold tooth, whose body was adorned with a wide assortment of elaborate and costly tattoos, who wore a very expensive brand of tennis shoes and who chatted on a new cellular telephone equipped with a popular R&B ringtone. While glancing over her patient chart, I happened to notice that her payer status was listed as "Medicaid"! During my examination of her, the patient informed me that she smokes more than one costly pack of cigarettes every day and somehow still has money to buy pretzels and beer. And, you and our Congress expect me to pay for this woman's health care? I contend that our nation's "health care crisis" is not the result of a shortage of quality hospitals, doctors or nurses. Rather, it is the result of a "crisis of culture", a culture in which it is perfectly acceptable to spend money on luxuries and vices while refusing to take care of one's self or, heaven forbid, purchase health insurance. It is a culture based in the irresponsible credo that "I can do whatever I want to because someone else will always take care of me". Once you fix this "culture crisis" that rewards irresponsibility and dependency, you'll be amazed at how quickly our nation's health care difficulties will disappear. Respectfully, STARNER JONES, MD
  8. Come spring mine will get a repaint of white, and after this blistering cold winter, a duct off of the main house duct into the garage for heat!!!!! :ack: Oh, yea, and for ac in the hot summer. Two windows in garage but on same wall! No cross ventilation! Besides, my MJ needs babied! BTW, that shelving up high looks really good and a smart idea! BUT keep it sprayed with some Home Defense or something similar. Little "recluse" type of critters will love that place, and if the bite, especially more than once, you could be in a heap of trouble!
  9. Have a 94 4.0 4x2. 265,000 miles. Only work besides wear items; radiator, water pump, starter, c-shaft sensor, diff bearings. Otherwise, all is stock. Makes no noise at oil changes. Front end only needed aligned twice so far. Oh, yea, back up lights don't work and I am not paying what is being asked for that particular switch. Passes inspection w/o it anyway. I would buy another in a heartbeat, except for the trouble of adults getting in and out of the back seats. So, looking for something with easier back seat entrance/exit.
  10. No VW bugs! Growing up on the Oregon coast, in the 1970's they turned bugs into some pretty good Sand Dune climbers. Would be fun to see some of them going at hills like that one again! Ahhhh, the memories!!!!
  11. Really! Truly! The 4.0 in our 94 Cherokee 4x2 is nearing 265,000. As far as engine goes I have tuned it and change the oil regularly, replaced belts, changed a crank sensor, starter, water pump, and idler, and that's all! Still have original Alt cranking out the amps, no noise at all at start up after oil change (I do put oil in the filter at changes). Fantastic engine! BTW, my 4 speed auto is still shifting just fine and fluid is nice and red!
  12. Delta Camshaft Company in Tacoma WA used to make a few different lift and duration regrinds for the 2.5. I have the smallest step up regrind in mine to help it breath better. Was able to use stock lifers, pushrods, etc. My 2.5 says stock it has 9.2 compression. Think that's plenty unless you want to have to use higher octane gas.
  13. Wonderful! Marriage; the toughest job, but also the most wonderful! Been at it now for 40 years next year! Congrats! Send pics of the wedding!
  14. Haven't looked at Walker for a while, but when I bought an 85 Chev Cavalier at 65,000 miles, I bought a lifetime Walker and as long as I owned the car (over 200,000 miles) never had to pay for a muffler again!
  15. 156TH IN A YEAR AND A HALF! Gotta wonder about my life also! But, hey, if you are one of the 1115 lurkers with 0 posts, speak up!
  16. Don't remember what number, but a flowmaster single in/dual out on my 2.5. Been on now for 6 years. Sounds the same as when first put on. No ricy sound, I think because of the dual out. BTW, I have turn down tips coming straight back out under the bumper, and resonating off the pavement adds to a "throaty" idle sound.
  17. When did CC start? Most chat rooms are not that long lived. Don't know if any of ya'all are part of it, but 4banger.com has slowed down a lot in comparison to what I see as a proliferation of, as noted, members here. Maybe it could be because it deals not with the 2.5 only, but .......... drum roll ........... the greatest of all automotive wonders ......... THE MJ!!!!!!!
  18. Welcome! :waving: Looks like you have a fairly solid body to start with, but as many others will also say, take a look under the carpet and see what the floorboards look like. That's a real rust starting place, especially drivers side. Mine's an 87 4x2 2.5 4speed w/o air and w/o ps. If you want ps I would suggest going to a 4.0 since adding pumps for the engine to work saps strength fast, but otherwise rebuild the 2.5 with a mild cam and headers and free flowing exhaust. That helps the little 4 popper quite a bit. Mine has a Delta Cam (Tacoma, WA company), Clifford header, and single in/dual out exhaust. Helped it a bunch. Plus, I think the 89 2.5 begins with a few more hp than the 87. I think mine not having the compressor or ps pump to turn helps also. BTW, if you use the 4.0, you have to swap in all the computer stuff from the donor also. Have fun!
  19. Been using DuraGloss Vinyl and Leather Dressing. Does a good job! Smells nice! Use it on my Tonneau also.
  20. Yo, guys. You DO know what happens, at least in the Army back in the late 1960's, when a soldier calls his rifle or side arm a "gun", don't you? the DS stands you outside screaming at the top of your lungs, THIS IS MY RIFLE. THIS IS MY GUN. THIS IS FOR FIGHTING. THIS IS FOR FUN. Thought I would let you know!
  21. Prayers ascend!
  22. It would suck, but be drivable. The 4 speed 2.5L MJ's came with 3.55's, and the one I had did pretty good on the low end, but I could not imagine what 5th would be like in something with 3.07's. Rob L. My 87 4x2 w/4speed and 2.5 runs at 3,000 rpm at 70-75 and does very good there. I do have a Delta cam with a bit more lift and duration and Cliiford header with a Flowmaster single in/dual out that adds probably 15 hp. On a flat road I can, without mashing it to the floor, make 60 in no more than 10 seconds, and can easily pass in 4th when someone is only doing 50-55 in a 60, so I cannot imagine running about 2,000 at 75 and a stock 2.5 and what that would mean. Would be gutless.
  23. Might find this link helpful: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=921205
  24. What brand of hub/rotor combo did you get that only cost $35? I have seen some on websites for even less than that, but have wondered about quality. Posted at another time asking about the quality of Winmere (think that's it) but received zero responses. What about Brembo (think that's the brand)?
  25. Don't want THAT to happen! Guess I will abandon this attempt :brows:
