Thanks for the offer, but from what I have seen they have different attaching forms and are shaped different. I found one on eBay and got it coming!

front turn signals not wanting to work
streetjeep2.5 replied to streetjeep2.5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just loosing contact inside the socket. JB weld reestablished contact and would not let groundwire ever move again! -
That would be a help if only intake and wiring appropriate to it. But, with 352,000 and one complete rebuild and then a need to sleeve one cyl, I may want to go with a complete swap. But, why a new instrument cluster? Mine is now gauges, not lights, and has a tach. Don't remember year I got it from.

Ways To Store An Enigne Block Setting
streetjeep2.5 replied to TheDirtyJeep401's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Definitely coat crank and rods also. I coated all engine block parts, including heads, that were not going to be replaced and bagged/boxed all of them. -
All the advice given is very good and from "experienced" drivers. I will only add something from being in the minneapolis area where we have had snow storm after snow storm and very little dry roads since November: If you live in an area where they put chemical on the roads and they do it a lot and you want to try to keep your MJ from being eaten alive, at any time its above 25 degrees run it through a car wash that has under body wash! BTW, above 25 days in our area have been rare lately! The first snow we had for this season is still on the ground since it turned cold at the same time and has stayed cold!

Where Can I Find Rattle Can Oem Paint?
streetjeep2.5 replied to Zebvance's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have used "automotivetouchup" for my Olympic White 87, and it matches quite well. Gotta remember the years of exposure of the paint on the car has changed it while probably what we buy would be like the color when new, so will not be a perfect match. -

I Have A Slight Steering 'bind"...

Thanks. That half turn made me fairly sure it was a ujoint and not the gear box also. Guess I start a'lookin for a shaft! -
Steep, But D**n Is It Nice.
streetjeep2.5 replied to ftpiercecracker1's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
had dual ouside mirrors on my 87 plain when I purchased it used. They were black. Their condition made them look original, I found some chrome ones and swapped. -
I Have A Slight Steering 'bind"...
streetjeep2.5 posted a topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
... at around every half turn of my steering wheel both ways on my 352,000 mile 87 4x2 manual steering 'manche. Started a week ago and does not seem to get any worse. It's strong enough that when I allow the steering to naturally center itself, the last "bind" before centering keeps it from centering right away like it used to. My steering gear was replaced about 50,000 ago so I "think" it should be ok. Since it is both ways and every half turn, could it be one of the two steering shaft u-joints that I bet I will need to get a whole shaft if so? Or, are there bearings in the steering column for the shaft that could be the culprit? -
If I remember correctly, the 170 and 200 are the same block, but a 250 is different. A 200 would be a good way to go, and "freshen" it up with a light cam for better breathing. I had a 200 in a 1979 Fairmont wagon with an auto and we pulled a 8' open trailer pretty well loaded and the car having a 3rd and 5th grade kids with wife and I and two dogs and a cat from Indiana to Florida, and it did fine. Tried to overheat once, and would slow down on larger hills, but it chugged right along!

I owned a 63 Falcon 260 v8 wagon in the mid/late 1970's LOVED that car! Since it had 5 lug 13" wheels on it I put 14" wheels on it with 70 series tires, and it really improved handling. I started to build for it when the 260 was tiring out a 289 that would have the hydraulic version of the 271 hp camshaft, 4 barrel regular fuel pistons, a dual plane high rise with a 289 Autolite 4bbl, and headers. But, family issues meant selling the engine. Guy that bought it put it in a 65 'stang and said on the highway he would get 23-25 mpg, but when he needed so go, it had go! Given you are in Washington, and I owned that falcon in Coos Bay, Oregon and sold it around '77 or '78, any chance your parts wagon was white with red interior?

Swapping In A 4.0/5 Speed
streetjeep2.5 replied to TheDude's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Not wanting to hijack the thread, but thinking of swapping in a 4.0 in my 87 2.5 (Renix) 4x2 4 speed. I know the basics are engine and trans, radiator and support, frame mounts, trans cross member and mount, drive shaft (D35), and all the wiring. But, for ease of swapping, what years would be the best to look for? I know it may sound silly, but if I was to abandon FI and computer in favor of aftermarket intake and carburation only because it makes things easier to work with (fewer "sensors" etc) would this change what engine to look for? -
Rear Sliding Window
streetjeep2.5 replied to dave92cherokee's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Mine has a 4 panel slider with inside flip latch and love it. Been in it since I bought my 'manche about 10 years ago. Its a CRL and is not flush. sits out a good inch. Glass still good but all of the stripping on the window itself has had it. Might have to spring for a new one. -
A Thought On V8S
streetjeep2.5 replied to ftpiercecracker1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Although its been in the works for a few years now, I plan on a lightly built carb'd 68 chevy 327 in my 87 Renix 2.5 4speed 4x2 highway only and almost daily driver (except in snow or when chemical is on the road here in Minnesota). Reason? First, I LUV my 'manche that has 350,000 miles on it and will be keeping it but the 2.5 has been rebuilt twice, so won't be a third time. Second, radiator needs replaced again, and all of the syncros in the tranny are beginning to not work as well as they should (no noises or anything, so gears still good) so radiator and tranny fixes are on the horizon anyway. Third, I am having problems with my sensors and cold weather starts are a pain in the back side and the bucks to have them scoped and fixed (if new ones are even available any more) so since it is legal here in Minnesota I will like the symplicity of a choke and fast idle car again! Fourth, I've had 327's before back in the late 1960's and LUV them and want one again and no fabricating is needed since Novak supplies pretty much everything from about 20 years of swapping experience. So, what it boils down to is if you want to go V8 you have abandoned original, so go with what works easy and simply, and trips your trigger, and has parts readily available. While I really thought of an AMC or Jeep V8 just to keep it in that parameter, but my research has made me see the chev small block is the easiest, least expensive, and seems to give the best satisfaction. Plus, to have on my license plate "300 327" will draw some looks!! -
Sooo ... what I saved that gave me lots of info on gearing in transmissions and rear ends etc, and the one where members posted vital and good info in pictures that we had saved .... none of it moved over with us as members from the old to this new site, and no way to recover it? Bummer :fs1: Is the old site still floating around somewhere in cyber space and it can be accessed so I could get to it???
-
My question also. I do hope they were not lost! So, can we recover them????
-
Hey, Jimoshel. I like your avatar! Nice! Like the quote about roads traveled also. How true. Nothing wrong with wearing your road map!

Good to hear, Culminator! I am getting ready to haul my naturally aspirated 68 327 to Blockhead Machine Shop in Crystal Minnesota to begin the overhaul where a "light" comp cam will be installed, and a weiand dual plane added, and all Novak sells will be used, and I will use pump 87 octane gas. My only dilema is transmission. I don't want a slippery drive, but a standard. Want to use the chevy V8 T-5 but Novak doesn't sell crossmember adapters for it. I wonder if they are thinking all T-5's are too weak while the V8 chevy T-5, like the mustang T-5's, may be strong enough. It's all going in a daily street driven (but not winter) 4x2. Hey, BTW, I now live in Minnesota where they could care less about what engine I have in it! I like that!
