Dunno the weight of a 340 IRT what you have (4.0?) I considered something other than my 2.5 when it needed overhauled at 260,000. I looked at a GM 4.3 and 5.0. The weight addition of the 4.3 would probably have meant changing springs, the 5.0 definite, and to do a good long lasting job for my "street jeep" ... the bucks were way too much. I know the 4.0 is heavier than a GM 4.3 and not much lighter than a GM SB V8. But, the 340 ... will you need different front springs?

Do 87's have the crankshaft sensor? My 94 4.0 started falling all over itself and it was the crankshaft sensor. -

2.5 Throttle Body

From what I have heard, since I am on that website also, is no. -
My 87 2.5 is TBI. Spacers are not made for pre 1991 TB's. Anybody done anything for these older ones that helps with performance and milage?

On very good looking comanche! I see Oregon plates. I grew up in Coos Bay but now live in Missouri. Miss the trees and fishing. If'n you wanna reveal it, where in Oregon does this 'manche live?

Are they an easy fit? Looked on the internet for a rebuilt one and found one for a 1968 for 265 plus 100 core charge w/12 month warranty. Rather have a rebuilt than used. I did put in a rebuilt gear from Les Schwab about 4 years ago.[/url]

Thankyouverymuchfertheinfo!

Have never checked milage. Gonna have to. I do have the Aisin 4 speed, and I do slightly move and turn. They only thing I miss about PS, like my 94 Cherokee has, is the really short turning radius it has.

BTW, under my user name I have "Jeeper". Mitch, you have "comanche addict." How did you access that to change it?

Under "profile" is says for Avatars, "show Gallery", and when I open it, there is "select category", a "go" button, and a "select Avatar" button. I cannot get the "select category" to show anything, so I can't "go" nor "select".

Yea, but a power robber of my 121 horsepower 4 popper. If I added anything run by a belt, it would be AC! I'd rather be cool while turning my Arm Strong steering in Missouri hot heat. 8)

New gauges with a twist

Not that I know of. I've been to Montgomery City a few times, but I'm not real familiar with the area. I went and look at a Manche up there about 3 months ago. It had nonexistent rockers and a tree had fallen on the bed. That's the problem in this area. Salt eats em up. There are only a few other comanche's in this tri-county area, and they have rust. I understand from some people around here southern Missouri uses less or no salt on the highways. You might check that out and expand your search down there. What about Kentucky and Tennessee? I shall keep my eyes open for anything. Do you prefer 87 and later with the longer engine bay so if it's a 2.5 you could swap in a 4.0, or even a small block V8? -
I know it sounds odd to think of widening the stock rims. I am moving between a few options. I like the idea of keeping it almost completely stock looking. But I don't like how the rear wheels set in under the wheel well further than the front wheels. Looks funny. Don't like the idea of spacers to kick them out. Adding an inch to the outside offset would make a world of difference. The front and rear would look about the same IRT distance set into the fender well. :brows: I also like the look of steelies painted the same color as the body, with baby moons and trim rings. That would mean 4 new wheels with rings and caps, then painting, and probably going with 16 inch, so new tires also. Again, a looks thing. To achieve the same look as mentioned above, I would go with a wider wheel on the back than the front, the front remaining stock width and outside offset so the wheel and tire doesn't stick out too far and look funny for a "street jeep". And, I have a 2.5, so there is no power steering! Its "armstrong" steering". Besides, sticking too far out on the front kicks too much crud up on the side of my "clean machine". ;) Soooo ... I want to weigh the cost since I don't make a bunch of bucks. If the widening of the rear wheels and staying 15 inch in comparison to buying four is basically equal, I will go with the four. If a LOT less, then budget says sacrifice the look. More important things, ya know!

Yep. 8 miles away. Didn't think about asking them. Thanks!

I live half way between the West end of the greater St. Louis area and Columbia, Missouri. I am looking for a company that widens steel wheels. Anyone give me a heads up? Kansas City area is fine also. My youngest daughter lives there and we travel there several times a year. I don't want to ship to Wisconsin or California or wherever.

Mines a 4x2 "streetjeep" also. Sounds like a new trend! :clapping:

Montgomery City. It's exit 175 off of I-70, the same one for Hermann where Stone Hill Winery is located, 'cept we are north, not south. Oh, BTW, as noted this truck was not found here in Missouri. Found it in the salt and rust free zone of the Puget Sound area. Of course, my 94 Cherokee, which was bought in the Kansas City area, and has spent all but 4 years of its life in Missouri, is also rust free because I keep the salt off if both the body and the undercarriage. This Comanche sees very little driving when "chemical Annie" has been dumping her load on our highways. ;) -

Thanks! It was a work truck hiding in the back of a small used car dealer with the windows partly down, a beat up bed liner in the back of it partially filled with gravel, water on the carpet from the rain, and wires hanging down from them taking the cb out of the dash. The moss was pretty heavy in the corners and other places on the exterior turning it green and brown, but I could tell underneath the paint was in very good shape with no dents or rust, and everything else was there. Bought it for 1100, took it home, stripped the seat and carpet out, dried it all out, cleaned and bleached the floorboards, cleaned and cleaned and cleaned the carpet, and brushed and brushed away the moss and crud, and what you see is basically what I found underneath! We also own a 1994 Cherokee we bought new, also a 4x2, and ever since getting it I started wanting a comanche. I found this one, and plan on keeping it until they tell me I am too much of a danger to have a license any more! Since I turn 60 this summer, I think I have about 20 years left! :brows: -
New to the group! I have an 87 comanche w/293,000 miles on it. It's a 4x2 swb, 2.5L and 4 speed. Bought it in Puyallup, Washington but in now lives in Missouri. It is purely a street jeep. I keep it clean and waxed! Rebuilt the engine December 2006, adding a Delta one step up from stock camshaft. It has a Flowmaster single in - dual out muffler with turned town extensions so there is a rumble echo off the pavement. Don't sound like no 4 popper! I want to add a Clifford header and Air Aid and an electric fan to boost power. The only pics are at Car Domain, and I can't figure out how to get the URL of the pic only, so let me add this link if you wanna look: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2095444
