charcoal only. Weber grille, both the "baby" one and larger one. Fire that puppy up with cedar kindling and use kingsford mesquite. No fluid at all. When finished I cut off all the air so the charcoal dies, leaving some partially burned for next fire up that, with the kindling, is going within 5 minutes, dump some more on, and in 20 minutes ready to grille! Gives me time to polish off a gin and tonic or a beer or two. :brows:

What's the guy got? V8 with Dual Quads on a high rise or tunnel ram, or the old style injectors that were vertical tubes on an intake?

Tell ya what, guys. I am a pastor that must always fight the temptation to "idolize" my MJ. If this thread finally goes the way of most threads and finally fades away, I would welcome any of you continuing the discussion via email ... or visiting the church of which I am the pastor. Creation is important (Hebrews 11:3, "By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible"), but what God has done for us in Him who was present at creation and became mankind's savior after mankind fell into sin, is the central issue. Sooooo ... email me if you wish (streetjeep327@juno.com) or drop by our small country church at 528 West Hudson in Wellsville, MO. Phone is 573.684.2106 and our website is http://lutheransonline.com/gracelcms Jeep on!!!

i chose this single sentence from this quote as the saddest, but most of it was to me. Ephesians 2:8 (King James Version) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: way too common a misconception that it is the works you do on earth that get you to heaven, oh i'm a good person, i didn't kill anyone, i'm fine. but the bible is clear there's only one way, if we relied on our own "good behavior" heaven would be empty. oh, creation  LONG POST IN RESPONSE: Agreed! Whole of Ephesians 2:8-10 says (this from the recent English Standard Version Translation) "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." Christians realize, for God's word "converted" our thinking, that the reason for all evil work in this world is man-caused. Yes, some use religion for it's practice, but that is not the fault of God. It is man creating "false" religions and concepts of God. But, God did not create (I believe in creation) mankind evil, but good. Mankind "fell into sin" and messed everything up. Jesus even said of fallen mankind "out of the heart comes evil thoughts, murder ..." etc "they defile a man." But "God so loved the world that He gave His Son (Jesus)" to take our guilt away. Now, through this gift of God called faith in what God did for all people in Jesus, God has made us His Workmanship to do what is good according to God, not man. Sure, we still have a sinful nature and blow it, but God forgives, and we strive against sin, not to be saved but because God saved us. And, on Evolution/Creation, a quote from "Progress in Theology", a newsletter of the John Templeton Foundation, which produced "Explorations: Currents in the Interface of Science and Religion". In Vol. 5, Issue 1, 2000, Howard J. Van Till, Ph.D.) wrote the article, "Why Does the Universe Work?" In it he writes: "Can the ‘stuff’ of the universe do everything that science expects of it? … As scientists, we think it does. But, also as scientists, we haven’t a clue as to why that should be the case. Why should the universe work well enough to make the processes of evolution possible? We have no scientific answer; science is silent there. … Science crafts clever theories about how things get formed, but why is the stuff of the universe able to arrange itself into these forms?" He continues: "I want to know why there are such things as interaction forces in the first place, and why things are gifted with the ability to respond to these forces in the particular ways that we observe. In short, why does the universe work? Where do the universe’s ‘natural’ abilities come from? What is the ultimate source of the properties and interaction that we take for granted as ordinary? What we call ‘ordinary’ turns out to be truly awesome when you think about it. … Science has no answers to questions like this. … But when we ask why the universe should possess these particular abilities, we are forced to think about the ultimate source of the universe’s being. We must ask why there is something rather than nothing?" Note the only conclusion he draws: "Perhaps the awesome nature of the universe is best seen as evidence for a mind more creative than we could imagine. Perhaps the giftedness of the universe is best seen as evidence for a giver of being more generous than we humans could ever envision." BTW, no, we cannot prove God's existence by scientific investigation, but Holy Scripture says everything we see out there is the proof that there is "God". Think of it; if there was "evolution", where did the "energy" that brought about come from? "Energy" cannot cause itself to exist. Science knows that. Dr. Van Till admits it.

Montgomery City, MO. (West of SL at I-70 exit 175, north 7 miles). Where you be in the state of misery, er, missouri?
-
Lettering looks 3 and 3 (missouri) not 3 and 4 (Illinois). I vote MO!

Yup. Bought my 87 4x2 short bed w/2.5 with 247,000 and original engine. Rebuilt it at about 270,000. Now is pushing 315,000. Daily Driver. Street Only. Surface rust shows up from time to time and I deal with it. Living in Missouri where they like to use chemicals on the road, I drive it very little in the winter. No under body rust or anything. Original Aisin 4 speed and Dana 35 still under it. Think all the original steering linkage also, but has a rebuilt manual steering gear. They just keep on ticking!

May need help getting home MO to WI - new route
streetjeep2.5 replied to Geonovast's topic in The Pub
I realize it might be a bit of an expense, but to save even more expensive repairs after driving all that way w/high oil pressure (damage to rod, main, cam bearings???) what about renting a uhaul trailer and haul it home? Is that possible? -
... and was a medium to light brown on Friday, 9-11 (please remember :USAflag: ) and near Burnside and 20th as I walked and yelled out NICE COMANCHE! Was it you? Didn't get a chance to yell out JOIN COMANCHECLUB.COM! ;)

Strange engine overheating...on a V8?
streetjeep2.5 replied to pilotblake's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Seeing small block chevys in XJ MJ engine compartments and the lack of any room for decent air flow has turned me off to putting one in my MJ. To me the few inches on either side of the heads, and that area take up by headers that give off lotsa heat, and the minimal space between the hood and engine, is a recipe, especially when driving slow in the summer, for overheating. My only thought is do some careful and nice cutting on the fender wells in the engine compartment and make for more air flow, put a hood that has a cowl induction scoop, functional of course, and try to have the radiator as far forward as possible to make room for fans. -
Another gauge cluster question
streetjeep2.5 replied to glundblad's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just picked up a blue gauge cluster in Redmond, Oregon (near Bend) at Brads U Pull it section. (Here on vacation and my mother-in-laws). Came out of a 4.0 cherokee. They have, as of yesterday, a comanche 4x2 4.0 short box, (89, I think) Standard trans. Fairly picked over, but I think the body was in decent shape. Not much to rust a body in this area. Don't know what you might get it for if you need spare parts and you live in Central Oregon. I got two sets of front signal lights and this cluster for $22.00. :brows: I am saving it as a "spare". The tripometer is missing, though, and looks like it goes through the clear cover in a different spot than the red gauge one I put in my 87 manche. If'n anyone has a spare tripometer out of one of these clusters, I would be VERY interested! -
Sounds like a weak seal blew after something plugged up with the cover gasket change that caused a tremendous increase in OP. Piece of gasket get down in the engine somewhere? BOY! hope not!
-
Yea to the oil pressure problem. If you can't find the cause, you might blow another RMS. When did the OP increase, after or before your baby began hemorraging? If after, could maybe a restriction in your CV system have caused too much pressure in the pan, blowing the seal, and a piece of it somehow lodged somewhere, increasing oil pressure?

whats wrong with fram filters ??
streetjeep2.5 replied to freakjeep93's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have used fram om my 94 cherokee 4.0 since new, and w/262,000, still not a bit of lifter, rod, etc noise on start up after a change (every 3000 to 3500 miles). 'Course, I practice what an old time mechanic taught me; always fill the new filter about half full of oil before putting it on. Near instant pressure on start up. -
No key in the ignition, but "part time" and "check engine" light on?

Let's see: 1. We, the government, believe the car dealers are ripping you off by not giving you more money for your clunker, so we will rip Americans off and give you what we think you really deserve. 2. We, the government, believe any car engine that gets worse than 23 mpg should not be on the road polluting our atmosphere, so we are going to cash in on your greed to get a green environment by destroying all those engines. 3. We, the government, will not stop here, but will take from you and give back to you according to our being smarter than any of you out there. 4. We, the government, are in a back door way establishing socialism, maybe communism, and the proof that we will get away with it is so many have used cash for clunkers honestly believing we, the government, somehow come up with the money out of a hat when instead we are bankrupting maybe this, but definitely future generations. 5. We, the government, don't like "we, the people."

94XJ donor for 87MJ questions
streetjeep2.5 replied to streetjeep2.5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
HESCO can sell you one, but you won't want to pay for it. The point of what I wrote is that the '94 engine harness can be used as a stand-alone, without changing over the entire chassis wiring harness. All Chrysler did with the 4.2L conversions was take the engine harness part and leave out the chassis harness parts. Get a '94 XJ wiring diagram. I wanna go back to the 1960's when it wasn't this tough!!! Seriously, thanks, guys. I will do some contemplating. I would like the power of the 4.0 and the ability to have AC, etc, since this is my daily driver (all highway stuff and thus the reason for it staying 4x2). Just thunk of sumptin'; I would probably need to use the front springs from the cherokee also, right? -
94XJ donor for 87MJ questions
streetjeep2.5 replied to streetjeep2.5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I will check out the speedo cable in the morning. Won't get home from the office till about 10 tonight. No noise from the D35, so I think it should do fine. I will check out the stand alone harness. Any suggestions as to where to get one? Is Chrysler Performance the only supplier of such things? -
94XJ donor for 87MJ questions
streetjeep2.5 replied to streetjeep2.5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks! My D35 is doing well, so if I am "nice", it should do fine behind the 4.0? And, my 94 4.0 4x2 with an automatic does have a speedo cable, (at least what looks like a speedo cable, and comes loose like a speedo cable when I checked for a possible leak there, and has a square end to fit in the gear is attached to the tranny) and I did buy it brand new, and no one has changed anything so the tranny is still original except for fluid changing, and has never been out of the XJ, so I am not sure of the whole electronic thing, unless the cable went to something electronic that transferred signals to the speedometer. My 87 is throttle body injected, not carbed. The 94 is multi-port. Based on your speaking IRT a 4.2 carbed to MPFI, I would think I could transfer the computer, etc of the 94, and all the harness, and be ok? -
94XJ donor for 87MJ questions
streetjeep2.5 replied to streetjeep2.5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks! 1. Afraid of that IRT gauge cluster. I will have to get a later one since XJ does not have gauge cluster. 2. IRT Rear Diff; MJ is a 35. Should go 44 w/4.0, shouldn't I? 3. My 94 XJ has a speedo cable (its an Auto Trans). Whatcha mean electronic? 3. Yep, kinda figured AX15. 4. Nope, not gonna go 4WD. Thanks anyway! 5. My MJ is a standard. Won't those pedals work with an AX15? 6. Yep, kinda figured EVERYTHING under the hood IRT to engine would need to come over. -
We own both a 94XJ 4.0 4x2 auto trans, and an 87MJ 2.5 4x2 4speed. The XJ we bought new and has been such a good car, my wife dearly loved it cuz it fit her well, it now has 260,000 on it, and we need to get a different "family" car because to see our daughters and grand kids we have to drive 6 hours one way. My MJ has no PS, no AC, and living in Missouri, it would be nice to have at least the AC. Because we have loved the XJ, I would like to make its power train the power train for the MJ, and so a part of the XJ lives on in our life. I know I will need to take all the electronics for the XJ and put them in the MJ, so here are some preliminary questions: 1. I recently added a gauge dash to my MJ that was made for the 87 year. With all the electronics for the 94 in the 87, and if I use the 94 gauge sending units for the oil, temp, etc. will the gauges work correctly? I know I will need to readjust the potentiometer for the 4.0. 2. I will want to keep it a standard transmission, preferably a 5 speed. Any speedo cable issues at the transmission end when it comes to it being an 87 speedo cable? 3. And, what suggestions for a transmission, and do you know of any issues I will have with the clutch working properly, such as should I get the clutch master and slave cylinder from the 5 speed donor vehicle? What years will fit the 94 4.0? 4. I will probably put the whole front axle from the 94XJ under the 87MJ since I am going to do power steering. I like the short turning radius of the 94 due to the wheels tilting compared to them not doing so on the 87. Or, can I just change out the steering knuckles and brakes? 5. I will, of course, use the radiator and support and all other stuff under the hood of the 94 for the 87. Can you think of any other issues? 6. Finally, the rear axle. I will swap, but would it be better to find a 4.0 MJ rear axle since there would need to be modifications? Ok, guys, what can ya'all help me with! Thanks in advance!

See http://www.snopes.com/computer/internet/clunkers.asp I should prefaced this snopes link with "although a hate C.A.R.S. because it is a socialist agenda thing, it is also important that we not add fuel to what will further the agenda." See....
