This is to the praise of not throwing stuff away  Rummaged through the "stuff" I keep, which my wife wonders why I keep it, and found a pull spring that would work by cutting a few coils off and reshaping the ends to fix the broken spring on my drivers door handle that returns the lever the plunger pushes against! Guys! Save things. Ya never know! I think this spring has been in my junk stuff for over 20 years!!!

Yeah, I figured that out afterwards. But why are they chitchatting in my thread?? Just joking, of course. we be chitchatting on your thread cuz we like ya, man! But, I intend to keep it stock. The only thing I might do is swap to a 4.0 w/cam and headers cuz it would be nice to have AC and PS, but don't want to tax the poor ole 4-banger by adding that stuff. I toyed with a SBchevy, but too much work. I would want a 5 speed. My grandkids love it being a standard trans. Since I HATE  Cash for clunkers, , and we do need a newer car, I have told my wife I have toyed with the idea of using the 4.0 and other stuff from our Cherokee 4x2 (94 w/260,000) as the doner, that way something from the best auto we have EVER owned (bought it new) stays with us. I like the look of the cowl induction hood, but putting one on with a 2.5 seems like I am making it a no go show boat. Maybe if I 4.0 it. I have thought of Wheel Vintiques smoothie wheels painted body color w/trim rings and baby moons. Always liked that look (I'm a 1960's kid, ya know).

Oh, don't fret. As we let them freely spend our money and put us deeper into debt, taxes will climb greatly. And, for the most part we will complain, but we will turn our pockets inside out and let them take it as they sing to us "Hey, Hey, I'm the taxman!" :dunce: Now, I typically don't quote myself, unless I can say like Rush, "I'm right!". Well, middle class tax increase has just come on the radar screen by the Obama "officials", not administration any more, as possibly necessary to fix the economy, and the road to that is heath care reform, they say, and taxes will be needed. http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington ... clude=Juno

Yep. Sure. Within two weeks the CFC program has created a short supply? There will, be but this is BS crap where someone is cashing in on the govm't getting involved in supply and demand, which will always screw it up, and brings out those who will do all they can to screw us, like getting hundreds of dollars for a toilet seat.

I wonder; is there a loophole in this Cash for Clunkers that will let dealerships take older cars they took in earlier with a trade in of less than 4500, and claim them, and by this rip us taxpayers off even more than Obama and his taxicusandspendicus group is already doing to the tune of now 3 billion of OUR dollars?
-
Yep. Welcome to the normal stupidity of those in government that think they know everything, but are completely out of touch with what it is really like to live in this nation. Time for our Congress"persons" and Senators to be the way they were originally; everyday people with a regular job that took time out to represent us regular people and pass laws knowing what it is like to be one, and by this do what is "of and for the people."

Sorry no pics but gauge cluster bezel painted maroon, same color as rest of dash panel. Black arm rests on the maroon door panel (couldn't find any maroon ones), and head liner no longer maroon but black. T-t-t-t-that's all, folks! :waving:

Intrument Panel w/Gauges ('87)
streetjeep2.5 replied to 87MJJeep's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
When I replaced my idiot lite cluster w/gauge cluster on my 87 I took the odometer out of the gauge cluster and changed it to read what my old cluster said. Totally legal. Also, before attaching everything, I attached an external tac to make sure my potentiometer adjustment was spot on, then resealed it into place with a dab of paint. Before you finish up, consider painting the gauge bezel the color of the interior. Neat little touch! -
Have you thought about trading your Comanche for a new Jeep?
streetjeep2.5 replied to mknherhappy's topic in The Pub
:hmm: whaa? it's all subsidized money. they are not knocking down the price, the govt is giving the mfr $4500 and the mfr is giving the dealer $4500 $9k including the pass-through $4500 from the govt), and the other $1000 is either coming from the mfr or the mfr is making the dealer pony up the $1000. No, the $4500 is coming from your and my pocket, not the government. All we get in return is a crushed car. -

In my opinion taking advantage of this Cash for Clunkers is to ok socialism. Those in Federal Government and a lot of State government are poking their noses into areas that are NOT for the government, spending more money than comes in as they do this (Obama inviting Gates and the officer that arrested him to the white house to "fix" things shows this to the "nth" degree), and at some point taxes will be raised to pay for it (even if raised on the rich only, soon those at the lower level of the rich fall out of that category making fewer there to tax so the tax rate goes up causing more to fall out and .... well, it goes on and on until there are no more rich to tax and then they tax those on the next lower level and soon everyone is in poverty and we are like North Korea where hundreds wait in line to take a bath at the government run bath house), and WE are letting it happen to us because WE are as inactive in doing anything about it, like the frog that is put into the pot of cool water that is then slowly heated and is cooked before he knows it. WE talk about it, but still let it happen to us and participate in it, and that is to ok it. I will not do any business with any car sales place participating in this program. -
I work in the used car biz and once a car qualifies for the Cash For Clunkers and is traded in It is issued a Certificate Of Destruction and can't be registered ANYWHERE in the U.S. and they require the dealer to Destroy the vehicle. They can't sell it even if they want to. This is really hurting used car dealers who are already suffering from a lack of quality trade-ins.My inventory is already down by 50% and it doesnt look like its going to get any better. My personal opinion: any dealership participating in the President's "I will take your money through unauthorized by us taxation and giving it to people who have old cars" (this is called socialism) will NOT get my business. We have to wake up! "WE THE PEOPLE" have let this happen to us. WE have let State and Federal Politicians vote themselves pay raises and retirement benefits that means they get the salary they were paid for the REST OF THEIR LIFE! The pass laws on Social Security, but do NOT participate in it, and therefore have no vested interest in making it work! A married couple who worked for the State of California, he is 52 and she 48, I think the report said, both retired from their jobs and get $119,000 a year. No WONDER California is broke. And, I wonder if the Governor and others are doing what they are making the State employees do to fix their economy; take three days a month off WITHOUT PAY! Doubt it! I am liking what those involved in the T.E.A. movement are doing.

Just a wee tiny bit. ;) Where'd you pick up the stone mesh for the headlights? From Puget Sound Area? And Oregon Plates? May need to get new plates, period! ;)

I'm not sure where it is on a jeep. Is it in the VIN? If so, which one? Nevermind! :clapping: I found a thread that told me where to find it. The code is 9B and is called Olympic White according to automotivetouchup.com. And, you can access pics of my MJ at http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2095444 You can't tell too much on the color, but you will be able to tell it is not a real bright white.

Used to be go north of Kansas City MO toward Leavenworth Kansas and along the railroad tracks plants looking exactly like this grew wild! But, it was hemp. They used to farm hemp in that area for making rope and seeds would blow off.

Good price for tail light assemblies also since they are MJ only. Wish I could find a straight, rust free tailgate for 50 smackers!
-
My 87 MJ is not the bright white of later years but more of a creamy white. I understand instead of blue mixed in to the white that they did in later years to get "bright white" it had a touch of yellow. When I repaint mine, it will be it's stock color.

Looked at XJ's when first came out, but bought first one, a new 2wd, in 1994, so I was 46. Still have it w/258000 miles. First Jeep and best ride I have ever owned. But, time to get something with less miles as our main car. Found my MJ in 2001, so I was 53, and intend on keeping it until they take my keys away because I am a danger to others. Hope that is not until I am in my 90's!

Oh, no! The rule in the 1960's? If it don't go, chrome it! :D

Not sure if this would apply to us or not.....

We have an administration that spends our money on such stupid stuff as this without asking us if we want to spend our money this way. So many of them, led by our president, seem to think they have every right to spend money as they see fit and to tax us into poverty in order to pay for it. The following link takes you to something that says it all very well: http://webmailb.juno.com/webmail/8?fold ... 1244651339 -
Friendly words of advice: Think twice about posting stuff like this in a public forum and save yourself some big time possible grief. :hmm: I agree on the friendly advice. In today's political climate this might be considered a hate crime. Used to be you had to commit a crime, but now there is a push to prosecute if you made someone "feel" threatened. What was the Tom Cruise movie where he was arrested for a crime they said he would commit in the future? Well ....
