    top speed

87 4x2 2.5 4speed. Engine has Delta Cam and flowmaster single in dual out. Used to have a clifford header. With that stuff if needed 80 with engine at 3000 rpm and sounding unstressed. Have been at 85 getting around a whole bunch of semi's traveling at 65 in order to not be behind them but ahead to get to and exit on I-70 in Missouri, but I don't like that speed in an MJ. If windy the buffeting is crazy because of the boxy body. (For those unfamiliar with I-70 in Missouri, it is almost always lines 10 to 20 cars/trucks long in both lanes going the same way no matter where you are.) But I run on the interstate at 70 to 74. No faster. Don't like being over that cuz in 1966 I was with a friend in his 64 GTO and after slowing down to 50 to cross a bridge from about 130 sustained for about 10 miles, the right front tire (bias ply) blew. If that had happened at 130 ....
  2. Soooo ... Darwinism at it's best also means when a kid is so "effing stupid" to climb up something and is then too scared to get down (daddy, I'm scared!! please help me! or meow!! meow!!) , we let him or her stay there until they figure out what to do ... or dies? People do "stupid" (I don't like that word, but I'll use it) things at times and need our help, even Comanche owners! :brows: Sometimes critters need our help, even barn cats and dogs people dump on the side of the road. Actually, if Darwinism was really true and like this, there would be no human beings because the stupid we do would have left us all dead long ago.
  3. Think cats do what we do: climb up but when we look down we get scared! Doesn't matter if you don't like cats or dogs, this kitten probably ran from something chasing it and sought the only refuge it could; a tree. It was trying to survive. When a cat or dog, which are animals that do rely on and will look for human care, is going to suffer a slow and scared death of any kind, even if for doing something stupid, we need to give that critter a chance. A kitten, about 10 weeks old, two years ago was hiding behind the AC unit below my office window. It had snow on its back and leaves frozen to its back. It barely meowed. I went out to check and that kitten tried desparately to get up in my arms. I could have said "tough luck", but it wanted and needed my help. I was it's only hope for survival, and he knew it. I put in in a box with a towel to warm up, went the store and got some canned food, and put it in an old doorless garage, made it a place to stay warm and fed it. It had an injury on its jaw and was literally walking on its elbow on one front leg. Hoping it was nothing serious, I fed it for a few days, but its leg never improved. From the time I put it there, when I left after feeding it, it would come to the front, but not leave. It knew I and that garage was it's only chance to live. That kitten is now our cat. Took it home after a week of feeding, took it to the vet and they found a cracked shoulder ball probably from trying to get down from somewhere, and because of the malnutrition will always have a limp. While at the vet all that kitten did was purr like a motor boat and wanted to play. Now that cat is best pals with our dog and will do things, like just stare into our eyes and purr still like a motor boat, for it knows it is alive only because of us, and this cat is, believe it or not, the most obedient can we have ever had.
  4. Was planning on a good fan, maybe two smaller ones. A cowl hood is a definite. Thought even about a couple of vents on the side of the fender well facing toward the back of the fender well so water or crud doesn't come in that would let air escape when driving or the fan is on. Probably will stick with stock exhaust manifolds since headers allow for more heat than the cast iron manifolds.
  5. I went to a dealership and they had the only very detailed one I needed for my 87 2.5 in one of their manuals. Might try them. All the Chilton etc. ones I found were inadequate.
  6. On NAXJA a thread touts the CSF all metal three row radiator as an excellent replacement for stock radiators in an XJ for 4.6 strokers or hard running 4.0's to give the cooling needed. If you are familiar with them, would they provide adequate cooling for a mostly stock small block chevy in a street only daily driver MJ, probably a 327?
  7. I want it!!!!!! According to whitepages.com the phone number on the business window comes us as: Keith's Auto Service Center, 3530 SW Multnomah Blvd, Portland, OR 97219 (503) 244-0379 Give 'em a dingaling and see ifn the owner wants to sell. It does have Oregon plates!
  8. I know, no pic, but what about a BMW delivering Domino's Pizza in rural small town farming country missouri? That count???
  9. Yep. Save the 10 bucks
  10. Hey! I have a white MJ too!!!! 87 short box! So there! Pftttttt!
  11. :clapping:   :jump:  :brows: :waving:
  12. We should be smart enough to not do what causes babies unless we are married and want to be a parent.
  13. I agree on not giving up. It sounds like neither of you want to. Understand there is no perfect marriage and each one has it's bumps. Some are big, some are not. The problem is when you let them get bigger and bigger they get tougher to deal with. But, it sound like you want to. I strongly suggest getting a trusted third party to help you work through things. Find someone who knows what is right and wrong and not a "whatever you feel is right" kind of person. Don't know what your vows were, but if they were the standard, "through good times and bad times, in sickness and health," well, here is where the rubber meets the road, and most every time once you deal with these things your marriage can be stronger. As a pastor I deal with marriages, and deal with things from "it's time to admit the wrongs we have each done in our marriage, ask each other to forgive, and then truly forgive, that is, consider it gone, done away with, never happened." I suggest you find someone that will do this, but won't beat you over the head with your wrongs. I kinda wonder: were one of or the two of you beginning to "do your own thing" and expecting the other to be ok with it? Another quick suggestion: Don't deal with things by getting drunk. It will only make things worse. Besides, you feel like garbage the next day! And, as you and your wife begin to make things work, take her on " dates" again! :clapping: Actually, take her on periodic dates the rest of your life!
  14. Actually, I think Mercury Capri. Was German. Had a 71 at one time. Wish I still did!
  15. Makes one ponder life and other things! Yes, glad you're ok! Worked in a shop years back and a late late 60's T-Bird came in just before closing, and one mechanic put the air bumper jack under the bumper, lifted it up, got under it on his creeper, and "WHAM"! it came off the jack. Another mechanic, big guy, grabbed the front of that TBird and lifted it up and another guy pulled the mechanic out! Thankfully nothing broken, but his chest was very bruised and had muscles torn. Was off work for a while! I think of that every time I jack a car up. I place the stands very carefully, always block the wheels, and leave the floor jack under it also if I can. May we all be careful!
  16. Delta Camshaft Co. in Tacoma, WA makes a regrind with more lift and duration for the 2.5, but not a real hi-performance one. When I rebuilt my 87 2.5 in 2007, I added a Delta cam and a header from Clifford (they quit making the header). I had a single in dual out Flowmaster also. Nothing more done, but just that really livened up the 2.5. After about 30 to 40 thousand miles on the engine, in my short box 4x2 4speed with no ps or ac, without power shifting and burning out I was doing 0-60 in under 10 seconds.
  17. We in the midwest sent our last storm to connect with the Atlanta one to give you good 4 wheeling weather! What's the beef??? ;)
  18. My cat runs from the door when I open it and he get a "wif" of 0 degrees. My dog launches outside looking for an squirrel down on the ground.
  19. Found this on allpar.com. In case you have a 4.0 oil leak that is escaping detection and don't know this already: "I owned a 1992 Cherokee with a 4.0 I-6. It had constant oil seepage from the rear of the engine. My dealer replaced the plastic valve cover with a die cast aluminum one with no success. I finally traced the oil to the oil filter mount. The o-rings that seal the oil filter mount are Nitrile (aka Buna-N, NBR) which have limited life. Replacing the o-rings with the same size but with 70 Durometer Viton rubber solved the leakage. My fix lasted the life of the vehicle."
  20. Georgia, eh? Yep. possible rust free MJ area. Good hunting! Anyone on here know of a good one for sale down that way?
  21. Welcome to the madness! The 4.0 is an awesome engine! Basically bulletproof. Been considered one of the best engines ever built. I owned a 94 4x2 cherokee with a 4.0 and after 245,000 not a noise out of the engine with oil changes; no lifter or rod noise at all! 87 is one of the lower horsepower years, but still at 175 (about, I think), good engine, good torque! But, where you live and how it has been cared for will be a big factor. Comanches like to have the floor boards rust out. Check that out. Didn't see an indication where you live or where you would get the Comanche from, so if you live in an area where chemicals are used on the road for snow and ice, look for rust. The frames have been known to rust bad if not cared for. Comanches have the frame built into the cab, but have an actual frame for the bed, so no space between the cab and the frame. Good places for rust to happen. I have an 87 4x2 with over 310,000 total but bought it in a no rust area. Still has none because I drive only highway miles and IF I have to drive it here in Missouri when chemicals are on the road, I rinse it off as soon as possible, including underneath, on the back side of the rear bumper, get under the fender flares, squirt ample amounts of water into the frame holes under the front fender well, etc. And, if I spot any surface rust starting, I deal with it. Again, Welcome!
