It's been over 5 years now, but Les Schwab ordered and installed my manual steering box for my 87.

Only Fram filters every 3000 miles for 260,000 miles from 1994 to 2010 and when sold it the 4.0 had no lifter noise, main or rod noise on start up after oil change nor on startup even after sitting for a few days, etc. I never had a problem with Fram filters.

Twernt a Jeep, but in 1960's was in a 64 GTO doing over 120, maybe 130 for about 10 miles. Slowed to 70 when we came to a bridge over the bay entrance at North Bend, Oregon that is tall enough in the center for almost all ships to pass under without lowering anything. Right front tire (bias ply) blew into a gazillion pieces. NEVER wanted to go that fast again!

I may have seen you in Redmond a few years back! My wife's family lives there and 2-3 years ago I was coming probably from the big wrecking yard (forget its name) :hmm: back into Redmond and saw a 'manche with a shell cross over going toward the Fred Meyer area! :clapping: I was going to chase you down, but the lights messed it up! :headpop:

Gotta admit, the we went right back into that coup and gave that rooster what for! Didn't do it again! One thing I do with any dog I have: Take them by the jowls, get in their face and tell them: I RULE! OBEY ME! Works every time. Ever since then they obey my voice, and as I treat them like they are, in the animal kingdom, the love of my life, they are absolutely obedient. They get excited when I, their alpha male, wants them to be present. Course, may need a few refresher courses through 15 or so years of being together.

We had about 50 laying hens when I was a kid. Had a chicken coup and small yard. HATED cleaning the thing! When the quit laying, they was a stewing! Let some hatch to replace the stewers, and got one that had it's beak crossed, and it's backbone was not in the middle of its back, and remained kinda small, but it fought tooth and nail for it's place even though picked on a lot. Brother and I were real innovative in naming this chicken .... "crossbeak" .... and she would run to us and stay with us whenever we were out there because we would make the others quit picking on it and kinda cared for it. Never laid eggs, but she became kinda our pet. Only lived a couple of years and found her dead one morning. No injuries, just dead. Also remember the time a neighbors rooster landed square in my chest feet first and wings flapping when I went into their chicken coup! MAN, that hurt!

Guess depends on whatcha wanna do with it. I know this will get some "WHAT!!!!!!'s", but I am not interested in 4 wheeling  . Plus, just plain can't afford it. If I broke something like a t-case 4 wheeling, it would be months, maybe a year before my truck ran again. Personally, don't want a 4x4. Even our new patriot is FWD only. Mine is a DD (except in bad winter weather) and I left it stock except for a tonneau cover, moldings off the side (coming loose anyway), the black is gone off the "jeep" on the tailgate, and Engine has a slightly better cam, headers, and single in dual out exhaust. Otherwise, stock ... a "streetjeep" :brows:

Dr "Appointment" Yeah Right! Here's your chance to chime in
streetjeep2.5 replied to knever3's topic in The Pub
Guy I know went to dr appt. Sat for an hour or more. :ack: Asked when the dr. could see him. "Oh, the dr left." He asked something like "why? when he has appointments and why did you leave me sitting here all this time?" Nurse said something like "His time is valuable." :shake: So, he said something like "so's my time. Since I had to clock out from work for this appt and will now be three hours short on my paycheck, you will receive a bill." Nurse: "you can't do that!" Guy: "yes I can especially since the dr is not even here, and you tell him if he complains, a lawyer will see you and him!" :smart: Dr. paid the bill sent. -
:hijack: Got a "customers always right" one! Worked a Ford parts counter from late 1967 to 1979. Took a break from mid 1968 to late 1970 after being drafted into the Army. The Rule: Customer is always right. Its probably 1977. Three phones off the hook with customers waiting on them. Several customers at the counter. All three of us busy! One of our "favorite" customers is there. He always complained. Wants the spring steel clip used to hold the wiper linkage together. I get it and invoice it. 90 cents. He says: "90 cents! What a rip off! I can make one for 90 cents!". Guess what my comment was since "the customer is always right?" I removed it from his hand and said ..... "then go make it!" The Parts Managers and Assistant managers jaws dropped! Then smiles broke out on their faces. It was a good day! Now, back to the regularly scheduled program! Thread is unhijacked.

"Oh mothers, tell your children, not to do what I have done! Spend your life in love with a truck, down in MJ land!" Wow! Quite a few got hooked by the XJ drug that then moved us to MJ fields forever!

Took notice of the MJ after wife and I saw our first XJ in 1984 at a dealership in Redmond, Oregon where wife's mother lives when moving from the Oregon Coast to Nebraska. Liked the XJ, but the 2.5 and 2.8 engine offerings left me thinking they would be underpowered. Then, in 1994, we bought a new one with the 4.0. Owned it until a month ago when at 260,000 we traded it in on a Patriot. Don't really remember when I first took notice of the MJ, but while living in Milton Washington about 2002 I was seeing the need for a pickup as a second car, and spotted a rust free 247,000 mile 87 4x2 short box 2.5 4speed covered with green mossy slime and with wet interior because of windows down MJ in the back of a used car lot. Bought it for $500 and it's been mine ever since. It cleaned up just fine, has a rebuilt engine and hopefully will only leave my possession when because I'm too old to be safely driving any more I have to. I hope one of my kids or grandkids will take it over.

Well, Mike, guess ya just gotta get a clean MJ to be your not boring one, and let this one be your workhorse. When it dies, give it a good burial (strip good stuff first and save it for your pretty one ;) ) but keep your clean one for non salty times!

Lived in MO for 13 years now; 1992 to 2000 NW of KCMO, across the Missouri from Lansing/LeavenworthKS, and 2004/5 to now about 60 miles west of SL. Having snow is not the problem, but the excessive rain along with it and constant overcast meaning a lack of sunshine! Most winters that I remember, and what long time (40 to 50+ years) residents here speak of, used to have sometimes a lot of snow, but when a storm passed it would be cold but it would not stay overcast for days and days. I guess it took a few years, but when I moved from the Tacoma WA area back to MO, I must have drug their winters with me here! :ack:

Mines a daily driver also. Every now and then I park it for a week and clean it up, take care of any chips, etc on it, and generally spruce it up. But, I drive it every day. Mike, does yours have some serious body rust issues or mechanical problems that will cost a lot to fix and are beyond your expertise? Gotta admit, that is when they become not a lot of fun. I am fortunate in I am able to keep mine garaged when not being driven, and I do avoid driving it when the salt is on the roads. I drive our other vehicle (wife is retired, so I can). Can you? Thats a big help for older vehicles.

Mike, part of owning an MJ is knowing you have a "getting rare" vehicle, and whipping it back into shape over time so you can have it in the future is part of the fun. But, as said, it takes time and lots of elbow grease, and you have to like doing that stuff. Hopefully what I and others have done to our MJ's over time will encourage you. Here is my story. I paid more for mine than yours about 9 years ago now, and it was covered with a coat of "I needed a stiff brush to get it off" green "mildew stuff" that wetness causes to grow. I scrubbed for days and days. It sat in the back of a used car lot with windows partway down in the rain, so the interior was wet. I had to pull the interior out and dry it out for days. I had to scrub and scrub the carpet and use mildew killer and all kinds of stuff on it. Had to do this to the floorboards also. The bench seat back had a hole wearing it it, probably the PO's belt would rub, but not real bad so let it go for now. The seat was broken down where the driver sat so while I had it out drying I shoved stuff between the springs and the foam of the drivers area so I was not sitting in a hole. It's still like that. I want to get it fixed and covered, but that has to wait. Just recently the hole was getting big enough that I found some maroon cloth that matched quite well, took the seat out, and my dear wife fixed the hole and even used yarn to match the white squares pattern. Looks much better. Thankfully the floorboards were not rusted. A big plus. I put it back together after a month of scrubbing and drying, and now it looked presentable. No rust on the body except for very light surface stuff, so did a few days of going over it by sanding to bare metal, priming, and hitting with touchup. Now it was looking pretty good. Used clear coat rubbing compound about 4 times over the whole body and gave it several coats of wax. Now it was looking good! I have owned it a few months by now, and has not been driven. Only had about 50 bucks in material into it at this time, but lots of time and elbow grease! The roof liner was hanging down, so I used wide plastic house blinds to hold it in place and it was that way for many years. Then, we moved from Washington State to Missouri. There went the bucks saved to address what I say below. It had 240,000 on a 2.5 when I bought it and it was a gutless wonder. It wandered around on the road because it needed a steering gear (manual). Could not afford much more at that time so just kept her clean and shiny as I stored away some bucks for the pricey stuff. I did put a gear in it before the move, so it was 2 years after getting it that I could afford it. It was five years before the engine was so tired it needed the work, so did everything except the actual overhaul, and it got new clutch, slave cylinder, transmission seals, u-joints and all that stuff at that time. Last time I put tires on I brought the wheels home, sanded them thoroughly and repainted them, putting new center caps on at that time. I look and look for used parts, like arm rests and stuff to replace the broken ones. I just recently got the roof liner fixed. Anyway, it takes time, but once its up and running decent and looking decent, you got an MJ! Gotta run! Time to start a class I lead!

My 4x2 4 popper ain't fast but Just being able to drive an MJ and have people look -some "younger" jeep owners probably thinking "I never knew Jeep made those! I want one" - makes driving one loads of fun! Comanche owners are a distinct, maybe even rare, group!

Hey, Jim. Enjoying life in this world God has given us is His intent. Sadly sin has messed it up, but it is still meant to be enjoyed and relished, and good for you in doing so. I have been in lots of states, but only other two countries, really; Germany and Vietnam. Made stops in Alaska, Guam, and R&R in Australia, but every bit of it has enriched my life. So, good for you in enjoying what God gave us to enjoy. Important, though, is to enjoy in a way that brings blessings to others, and by this I mean we can enjoy beverages on a beach somewhere without causing problems, and we can even be involved in a war with the well being of all as our motive and enjoying our time. In the midst of being mortared and shot at in Vietnam, I got in some of the best surfing ever! I actually caught a tube! So, even in war, wonders can happen!

Been so wet in central MO the farmers are getting cranky 'cuz they can't be working their fields, and around here we have a business that makes the staves for oak wine barrels, but it's so wet the loggers can't get any trees out so they are having people stay home instead of work. Not good! Oh, yea, and we are getting the rain side of Clinton MO and Leawood KS weather!
