eaglescout526
Run. Run far away from Fram. Everyone on here will tell you to use Wix or Napa or even MoPar.
Dzimm
My 98 XJ had Fram filters on it for over a decade and never had an issue. The 4.0 will be down with whatever you put on it. I'd use something better if I could but if you've got to use Fram, use it. Idk why people hate Fram so much, I've yet to see actual proof of a Fram filter causing issues. olddude
Purolator L14619, Advance Auto Parts. Been using them forever. I don't know, I've had the Comanche for 30 years. 220,000 miles.
DirtyComanche
Fram fixed some of their issues. And their higher end filters are actually decent. However they definitely make some not great cheap filters and there has been failures from them. That said I can easily get a dozen different brands of filters for the Renix, so I don't know why you would use a Fram.
Pete M
a fram filter collapsed internally and stole all my oil pressure at idle a bunch of years ago. Didn't realize what the issue was (I feared some sort of internal engine failure but it made mo noises and didn't leak any oil) and was on a trip so I just kinda dealt with it and 3-pedaled it ti always keep the idle up a bit for a few days til I got home. once I changed the filter all was magically well again. omega_rugal
so they either work or fail miserably... tough choice... my idiot light won´t tell much if it fails...
kansashogan
Wix makes Bumper to Bumper store brand filters. For my 350 SBC they are 2.50 each. They have a cut out display with a Fram, a wix and their store brand and the Wix is the best but the store brand is a close second. The Fram doesn't compare. fiatslug87
I bought my '90 new, used it as a daily driver for the first 12 years (at least 80 miles per week day) used Fram filters and cheap Chevron conventional oil every 5000 miles. Just checked the compression three weeks ago ~140 psi across all cylinders with 258000 miles.

And as I said, it's really only their lowest end filters that suck for the most part. The 4.0 is also tough enough that it will likely survive using them... unless you have a total failure of the filter, which does happen. Pete was damn near to that happening. I don't see why you would use them when there is better filters for the same price or less.

cruiser54
Or this: CRUISER'S MOSTLY RENIX TIPS RENIX OIL FILTER TO SAE FILTER JANUARY 3, 2016 CRUISER54 9 COMMENTS Tired of having a poor selection of oil filters for your Renix Jeep? Limited availabilty a pain for you? 20mm threads? We don’t need mumblemeter threads on our oil filters. Here’s a simple mod that allows you to use the very popular SAE threaded oil filters which are more readily available. The old standard 3/4″ SAE thread. You can purchase a new oil filter nipple from the dealer for under $10 and never be bothered again. Part number 53007563AB. It’s the one on the left. Or, grab one off a 91 and later XJ at the junkyard. Be forewarned though. You need a 7/8 wrench to remove a Renix nipple, but a 15/16 wrench for the later style. And just in case you need to replace your oil filter adapter o-rings, here’s a handy guide. There have been far too many documented cases of members here who had low or no oil pressure that was entirely fixed by throwing away their Fram oil filter for there to be any reason whatsoever to use a Fram filter on a Jeep engine. DON'T ... DO ... IT.
jeeptec1
Years ago Chrysler/Jeep used to have a service bulletin about approved aftermarket oil filter. Fram was never on the list. cruiser54
I don't care what new gimmick Fram comes out with. I will NEVER support a company like that who sold such pieces of crap to unsuspecting vehicle owners and shops for so many years.
dasbulliwagen
Local Jeep dealer MOPAR filter number 05012968AA. They still keep them on the shelf, at least at my local dealer they do. If not, they can usually have stuff in 1-2 days.
eaglescout526
I can vouch for that MoPar filter. Still a crap load left and I think Chrysler wants to get rid of them. They can be had pretty cheap. But the dealer will get a pack of twelve if they order it for you so they could have them on the shelf until your next oil change. I still have four left at my work. jeeptec1
Back in the late 80’s and mid 90’s Chrysler issued a TSB ( technical service bulletin) with a list of approved oil filters.Fram was NOT the list.there was an issue with no drain back valve in the oil filter. This was a problem on the Mitsubishi engines Chrysler used back then. Drain back caused dry engine-starts and early engine failure. The 2nd bulletin was issued because the filters were coming apart and plugging the oil squirters and wiping out the pistons.
