mfpdm
Here's a couple of updates.Put the rest of the rods and wiring in the doors and as I stared into the handle opening something was missing. There is suppost to be a water barrier thingy to keep any water that finds it's way past the gaskets off the window switches. Soooo....Since I have a couple of extra newer style door liners, I'll just cut a small piece to attach above the switch area. This would have been a lot easier when the glass and stuff was out of the door. If you have gorilla arms, forget it. I snaked the piece up through the speaker hole and then sprayed it with adhesive. Then stuck it in place. This stuff is water proof and the 3M 90 adhesive is more that enough to keep it in place for many years. I then set the door liner in to see how it was going to look.I like how the material is over the speaker to protect the cone from water. Finally installed the new push rods, rocker arms, and bridges onto the head.Figured now was a good time to refresh the paint on the block and oil pan.Cleaned up the intake and gave it a nice coat of paint and put it where it belongs. Hit a couple of other odds and ends that went with it also painted the exhaust manifold with high heat paint.I've got pretty much most of the brackets and pulleys done and sitting in place. Hope to finish the motor soon and put it in it's new home.
DodgeFan01
I just picked up a role of that bubble insulation stuff from work that we were gonna throw out! Glad I saw this project, thanks for the idea! Any updates? Sweet jeep so far.
maddzz1
My 97+ moldings are the opposite; passenger door is harder to close and pops open harder. I always figured it was because that door wasnt opened and closed as much. :dunno:

bigalpha
Have you had a chance to get the motor and trans installed since your last update? I love the color that you picked for the truck.
mfpdm
Nope, haven't tackled that yet. Really hate that I can't get this thing higher on the priority list of crap to do. It's kind of like this picture, every time I think about getting something done, something else blindsides me.

mfpdm
I've been cleaning up some parts here and there but nothing to great. Got the seats torn apart and waiting for them to dry. Put a write-up in the DIY on them. One of the parts I was cleaning was the throttle body. Didn't think I was going to be able to just scrub it up without a hammer and chisle but was quite surprised it came clean with a toothbrush and thisNow it's clean on the inside at least.Should have some better progress on the build in a few days.
JeepcoMJ
I thought you went with a high output? if so, that throttle body is renix and won't bolt on to high output. edit: I see your intake manifold is a renix...do you have a HO block or is it also renix? I can't remember why, but I was under the impression that this was also an H.O. update as well...
mfpdm
No HO this time around. It's all Renix. Would have like to have done the HO swap but was trying to keep it simple. :rotfl2:

mfpdm
Few things to update. Been working on finishing the 96 booster upgrade. I wanted to go with the 96 brake pedal so I wouldn't have to worry about getting a sleeve for the booster rod on the original pedal. Still had to mod the 96 pedal to accomendate the cruise control vacuum switch. Here is both pedals side by side. 96 on bottom. The 88's pedal has the brake switch that contacts the booster rod and the cruise control vacuum switch on the pedal assembly. The 96 pedal has the brake switch and cruise control switch combined.Basically, I figured the easy fix would be to drill out the hole beside the 96 switch and put the cruise control switch there. Then I took a piece of aluminum angle stock and made a way to press and release the cruise control switch by bolting it to the brake pedal.Welding a piece of angled steel would be better but I had to use what I had, and lacking a welder made my decision.Pedal and booster back in the truck.Left the master cylinder off so I can bench bleed it before putting it in.Finish putting the rear speakers in. Cut a couple of pieces of rubber and used 3M adhesive to put them behind the speakers to help cut down on reverb.Put the Infinity's in and they sound great.I'm thinking I may put in a small sub that I can put in the storage area of the console like the TJ's have. Here's a couple of pic's of things I've done and haven't posted in here.Did a speaker grill mod to accomendate the tweeter cone on the door speakers.Basically I added a spacer made from another speaker grill to give me the 1/4 inch I needed.Write up can be seen here. viewtopic.php?f=9&t=17006Also did the 97+ shifter mod with ZJ handle. Here's the write up on that. viewtopic.php?f=9&t=19050Got the 2dr XJ buckets cleaned up and repaired. Here's that writeup. viewtopic.php?f=9&t=18813Few other odds and ends Cleaned up an painted the AltenatorHave put most of the aux.s back on the motor. Will post pic's of it soon.Inch by inch and step by step, it will get there.
