what did you do to your MJ today?

I welded in my LCA skids and built a new T-case shifter!!

I took an old linkage set up I had and chopped off the hocky stick handle. Ground the end flat at an angle that allows it to be flat and parralell to interior floor. Then I welded on an appropraite sized bolt and ground the welds to look purdy.

Then I threaded on the knob...

Here is the LCA skids.

I cleaned up the contact points with a flap disc and clamped on the skids.

Then I burned them in...

And finally shot them with blk hammered paint.

Trying to track down front growl I removed front drive shaft, greased two dry caps (actually, one was dry, the other had water in it) on lower u joint and carefully inspected double cardan joint. Growl still there, so reinstalled drive shaft. Inspected hubs, and by process of elimination decided it was the diff. Only wishful thinking made it not my first guess...

Front axle full of chocolate milk again, probably happened driving in the creek at Cable Creek to wash the mud off. Nice wear pattern on ring gear is gone, showing even wear across the entire surfaces (front and back) of each tooth. Decided to drive on it until she blows, then move to 4.10 axles.

Changed out oil on front axle, tightened valve cover bolts (the back one was almost completely out!), topped off oil, greased all joints and tested coolant; needs more antifreeze.

Done wheeling for a few months. Need the MJ to stay together reliably for a little while while I weld a new floor in the XJ, meaning I won't have a spare vehicle to drive if something happens.

passed emissions, and stripped down my new factory rear bumper, straightened a few little spots, cleaned it up and painted it low-gloss black,

hit all the plastic with a vinyl/plastic black, and re-assembled.

turned out the paints match PERFECTLY. and it looks beautiful.. goin on the truck tomorrow hopefully.

Got my CB antenna wire re run. I had to cut it back when I fixed the frame and only just now fixing it. I was concerned with splicing it back together with a couple couplers and a union. I was afraid the SWR would skyrocket. SO, I ran it between the seats and out the bottom of the cab then up between the bed and cab to the roll bar. Where I e;lectrical taped it to the bar out opf site. I left a nicw drip loop and shrink wrapped the coupler connection.

I know it works, but unsure hopw well as the TJ's unit is not so good from inside the garage. I don't know wnyone with a CB close by. the TJ gets some skip while the MJ's is silent. This worries me. I switched the mast to a 102 steel whip with no difference in receiving signals. OH well, it should be fine for a line of site connection and thats about all I need out on the trail...

Punished it pulling down a 70 foot tree that blew down in last September's storm and got hung up in two other trees. Co-worker cut it almost thropugh at the base and got his saw stuck. 50' logging chain, one little tug to pull the bottom apart freeint the saw, then 30' run, repeat 4 times. 4 times moved it about 6 feet each, last one I dragged it some 40 feet until it lay flat before I started digging holes again. Left 15 holes and one 12" deep furrow about 65' long.

Trailer hitch brackets moved some, and the mounting bolts bent (will replace tomorrow), but everything is still in one piece. I think I'm happy with the strength of stock 29 spline 8.25" shafts, as well as the 760 joints up front.

Gutted the interior (except the dash). Found Rust, cleaned, prepped and ready to patch and paint. Carpet order, seat swap in work, center console painted. I also purchased some fancy home depot insulation to help with sound deadening. It is getting cold out, so everything should take longer to dry/cure. Also purchased new wheels and tires.

Damn...x2, almost to a tee...

-Gutted interior (except dash)...-no rust found  -

-New carpet ordered

-Swapping the seats from my donor xj (got some cool neoprene seat covers  )

-Painting '99 xj consol

-Prepped int. for grizzly grip on back, roof and sides, got heat shield/sound deadener for the floor

-Thought about buying new tires :rotf: ...but then again I do every day, and each time realize I don't have the money so I tell myself they will last another day :(

Haha, seriously...what a trip.?.

I also finished planning my full cab width box for behind the seats...to include storage, speakers, a sub and amps in one complete assembly jamminz.gif
