Don't bother. That is why the TJ guy took it out. My LJ has a LP30. If I was going to wheel it I would swap it for a HP30. I did on my 2000 XJ and it only had 12,000 miles on it. I still blew up the gears on the HP30 with 35s. As you upgrade axles, u-joints, drive shafts all it does is move the weak link further inboard. It ends up being the ring and pinion. I had Warn hubs, alloy shafts, CTM joints, and a custom built driveshaft.

Sounds to me like it is stuck in second gear. -

Look at my Black Betty build for a ChryCo Magnum V8 swap. It's been fun! -
I think Outlaw IIs are perfect for an MJ. Old school look and clean up real nice.

Clutch Fan Upgrade For An '86 2.5?
shelbyluvv replied to armyofchuckness's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
A few years back I bought a 94 XJ with a blown 2.5, I picked up a early 2.5 for $100 and dropped it in. I swapped all the pulleys over from the 94 onto the 86 motor. I chased an overheating issue for weeks after that. I finally pulled the water pump off the 94 motor and swapped it on the 86 motor. In the process I happened to notice the impeller was different. Yep, I was spinning the 86 pump backwards. I did the same thing years ago on my Shelby too. The parts house sold me the wrong pump. I now check every pump before I bolt them on. -

Looking To Go To Obd Ii
shelbyluvv replied to johnj92131's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
To be honest I have no idea. The 97+ has a stand alone airbag controller under the console. It can be removed, fuses and relays pulled with no codes or lights. I don't see why the 96 would be any different. -

96 was a crossover year. It is OBDII with the old style dash. They will also have an airbag in the steering wheel. It is pretty much a bolt in for the dash and wiring. -
Looking For Advice -Wisdom On 2.8 /4.0 Swap

Stock ZJ mounts bolt right in with a couple new holes being drilled. I had to make some drop brackets to lower the engine 1 1/2" or so. Look through the Black Betty build in the projects section for some pics. Wonder if thats the same for the 5.9? Probably end up having to make my own...i want to add a couple more horses before i put it in anyway... The 5.2 and 5.9 have the same mounts. It's the same block. Get a nice running ZJ as a donor. Then let the wrenches fly. -

I'm building mine for my son as well. He'll be 16 next August. Get them deeply involved in the project, make them buy some parts with their allowance, teach them the value of the truck. They will respect it more in the end. My truck happens to be one of the very first MJs ever built. It didn't stop me from building it the way I wanted it. Enjoy the time with your kid building the truck. Those are memories they'll cherish forever! -

Do a Magnum V8 swap, less work honestly. The wiring is about the same. Why not? -
The Cummins will push 40 PSI stock, right from the factory on some models. I know a lot of guys running 100 PSI+ on twin and triple turbo setups. W/M injection is used in a lot of diesel applications. You will also see NOS and Propane on the big boy drag and pulling trucks. I love owning my CTD! I am also pushing 22 PSI on a 2.2 Dodge gas motor. That is followed up with a 75 shot of juice once I get into second gear. The only internal part of my rotating mass that is after market are my pistons. I was breaking ring grooves after 20 PSI.

Black bench with shifter cut out!

It took me a really, REALLY long time to find my LWB roll bar. But it is a chrome one. The long box ones are super rare.

I have a brand new factory black bumper that I will trade you for the chrome one. The box fell apart but it is complete.

Amc V8 Swap Into Cherokee
shelbyluvv replied to manche75's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Jay, About half way down the page. I built my harness and can give you some pointers. 97+ is way easier to make a harness for. 91-95 is the next easiest. Renix... forget it, lol. I would not know where to start on that monster. http://backwoodsoffroad.com/cgi-bin/imcart/display.cgi?cat=4 -
Amc V8 Swap Into Cherokee

You can almost bolt a 5.2/5.9 Magnum in using stock ZJ frame mounts. With a carb you will most likely need to cut the hood to clear the air cleaner. Look at the Black Betty build thread in my sig below for more ideas. I used a 46RH trans. It is a hyd trans and only needs the torque converter and overdrive powered to make it work like a stock trans. There are companies that make kits to make it work with a carb setup. The Magnum/46RH swap is very popular with the older Mopar crowd. -
I love me some L body goodness. My 84 Rampage is on www.carmemories.com under the Dodge section. My 87 Shelby Charger is also on there. Beautiful little Trucklette. Time for a turbo swap!

I'd go $150 for a hitch. I was going to pony up the $350 for one because it was my group buy and I felt obligated. Now that I have a hitch I don't feel the desire to spend much more than what a regular hitch should cost.
-
Don pretty much nailed it. I had UHaul on board to build some hitches. There was a minimum run of 15. Once the price was set at $350 per it was crickets. I wasted too much time working with them just to be made a fool. The guy I was working with is a NAXJA SoCal member, InlandZJ. I have a hitch now so if y'all want one you either have to pay to play or keep an eye on the junk yards.
