  1. Another story: I was returning to my truck and a "young" woman complemented me on the truck. She told me she has learn to drive on one those...except it was the "station wagon." She asked me if I did the work or had someone "convert it to a pickup." ?!?!?! I informed her that Jeep made it that way. Her response: I didn't know Jeep made a pick up! (Only from '46 to '92.)
  2. Somewhat similar story, though not as funny. I live in home owners association (HOA). The HOA requires all vehicles be register in order to use/park-at the amenities. We owned the Comanche before moving here. Every year, we have to verify our vehicles. One year I looked at the HOA's preprinted list of our vehicles and they changed it to a Commander. We went to the HOA office to inform them that the truck is a Comanche. The persons response: I've never heard of a Jeep Comanche.
  3. The Blk provides ground to the light through the headlight switch. The Blk w/ trace grounds through the door switch.
  4. Judging by the connector with the wires cut close (right side) and the blue crimp connector with the red wire, I will say a PO did some home-brewed wiring. I don't recognize that gray connector from my 87. Can you find any open connector close by that yours may fit?
  5. +1 My BA10 went through 5 internal slave cylinders in the first 20 years. I made sure it would not see a 6th.
  6. I swapped from the BA10 to the AX15. I got a proper tcase with 23 spines and shift linkage. Other than those two parts, I did not have to change the drive shafts. Both the front and rear fit the new trans and tcase. Other parts to get: the AX15 cross member and trans mount. If you switch to an external slave cylinder, you will need a new hydraulic system.
  7. So why not use a XJ prop valve IF you eliminate the load valve and switch to disk brakes?
  8. In the 87 electric manual, page 20, lower left of the ECU, Sync Ground. From C104, to C105, to C231. (Double check the wiring. I have found the manual to less than 100% accurate.)
  9. I have one in a box in my garage. I will have to dig it out. It came from a 87 XJ.

    "New" Jeep

    Sweet!
  11. Doesn't look like a tornado prone area
  12. The ECU had a re-programing change after 88. The 89-90 ECU puts out more HP than the 87-88. There are also differences between an AT and MT ECUs.
  13. Yes. It looked like either a repair shop or someone's "collection" of vehicles.
  14. I am watching a U-Tube video on bike-packing a rails-to-trail route in SW S. Dakota. As the presenter is starting out, he rides past this:
  15. Happy new year from eastern time zone.
  16. If yours is a '90 (last of the AMC era electrics/RENIX) and the wiring diagram is a for a '91 (first year of HO), was the wiring changed/altered that you know of? If 'No', then I doubt the connector is for an outside temp. sensor (something an MJ never had).
  17. +2 What are the wire colors?
  18. I found that with modern vehicles, if you want to change a part on the front, you start removing parts from the rear and work your way forward. If you want to change a part on the rear….
  19. From the photos, it looks like the sway bar is spread too wide. I say that because both links are pushed out. If the axle was shifted, one of the links would be pushed in, the other would be pushed out. Spread wide: \ / shifted right: / / shifted left: \ \ My 2¢

    AI renderings

    6 and 7 slot grills?
  21. Is the one on the left for an early radio harness? My 87 has two harnesses: one for speakers, another for power.
  22. My 2¢: Install both the AX15 AND the matching tcase from the XJ. You will have both an AX15 and external slave cyl. You don't have to install the front axle or front drive shaft (yet). This will allow you the option to go to 4wd in the future. (Keep the XJ front axle and drive shaft for that use.) You will need a new rear drive shaft to fit your. The old MJ DS is too long (something I've never heard) and the XJ DS is too short (sadly,...). Additional parts you will need: The crossmember and trans mount from the XJ, the tcase shifter and linkage (future use), if the master and slave cyls from the XJ are good use those. While you are at it, switch the clutch kit. I like to get the LUK kit for the 95 XJ rather than the 87 MJ. Not only because of the release bearings diff (int. vs ext.) but the pressure plates are different too.
  23. I have a 05 CRV w/ a 5spd. It just hit 400,000 miles. If you take care of it, it will last a long time.
  24. That looks like a “lock-out” detent pin. It’s to prevent one shift rail from moving while another rail is in a certain gear. For example, some transfer cases won’t allow 2wd-low. The 231 only has 2h, 4h, and 4l. I don’t know anything about a 229. It’s probably a good idea to put it back in place.
