Wow! the roll bar looks great sir. My apologies for not being able to scrounge out the brackets I have ( around here somewhere) to get photos of them for you. For what it is worth your homemade front brackets look better designed and executed than the factory ones I was finally able to locate. Sorry for the delay with the info you needed still have not been back to the painters (where the rear plates are) Your powercoated bar almost makes me wish I had not sprayed mine (and bumpers, side bars, bed side top rail plates with u-pol raptor. It really looks sharp dude.

Really funny to get your note this morning, (and can't thank you enough for thinking about me and my project) but I scored a set of XJ country panels with the "wood" trim off e-bay last night. They are perfect! I was just sending a PM to yellaheep moments ago to tell him that the extra set of stock grey ones he offered up following the water damage to the ones I dyed, would not be needed either. Many many thanks to you both for the thought and the offer. This forum and its members are awesome. If those panels you found are good and cheap I would pick them up anyway I am certain someone will need them. I have been led to believe I will be finally bringing the truck home this afternoon.... Fingers and toes are crossed....

Wow! Looking really good man. I really dig the color. nice to see a color out of the ordinary that works with the body lines as much as this does. I will enjoy following your build.

Groovy Troy and thanks... Not to worry, I would no sooner butcher factory black door panels than cut off my arm...

I gotta say that even if this is true, that this forum is far far better than others I have been on over the years in that, even when the same responses get tossed in casually, they do not that I have noticed include the distain, ridicule and sarcasm that has me no longer on those "other" forums. I think that in most cases that it is fairly normal for the old guard guys to take a back seat so to speak as the rookies get more versed in the craft/cult and begin to carry a torch as well. it is all part of the community feel and nature of the group. It is an absolute fact that I as a person have gotten far more anti-social and sarcastic as I have gotten older And less tolerant of idiots and a**holes. I think in all probability most of us being honest have. It is not surprising that it comes out in my day to day real world self on a regular basis. ( I frequently open my mouth if for no other reason than to change feet) I think it is pretty cool that I almost never see that here...Silence is one thing flaming sarcasm is another. I (as a rookie /novice) appreciate the lack of the latter immensely. That's my 2 cents worth anyway.

I think the vinyl outer skin will be fine, and will only need to replce the backer board. I still have the black panel set .I got from you last year also. I almost replace the backer boards when I dyed them in the first place but decided to mount them first and see if was warranted. I should be bringing the truck home by tomorrow and in comparisson to that, the present situation with the door panels seems almost inconsequental.

Who Has Experiance With Powdercoating ????
buffalob replied to buffalob's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The best set is already spoken for. I may have another set "not so good" but after the shipping you might be better off at your local pick and pull off an early Cherokee. If you want me to did in the shed to see how that set looks I can get to it sometime over the weekend...let me know -
I would like to sent all the side window and drip rail trim out to be powdercoated. I have effectively de-chromed every part of Bucky. I am thinking as these parts are stainless steel that powdercoat is the best and most effective way to get these to a satin black and not be fragile like painting them. I considered doing this with the windshield trim also, but have decided on the 97' and newer one piece rubber gasket/seal instead. The hardware for the tailgate is being considered as well. Has anyone else done any powdercoat to any or all of these items? Or if you have any other alternatives or comments...... Many thanks. I am down to the little details...finally. Bob

Well I found this morning that I have an unexpected setback. I have out of necessity had to store a bunch of parts for Bucky in boxes and plastic cubby bins in the back of the spare bed I am working on in the back on the patio. I as I am sure most guys do, I have parts stashed all over the place. (and a fair bit still with the truck at the painter as well.) Of course not having a garage throws another whole dynamic at it as well. Anyone with "grown" kids is fully aware that even when they leave the nest, a fair bit of their sh*t does not, and for whatever reason seems to migrate around the place on it's own mysteriously, making finding any of your (my) stuff at any given point virtually impossible. Another list member needed photos of the factory roll bar mounting brackets and I needed to find them etc. etc. After a pretty thorough rummage through the shed (no power out there since a recent storm...yes I will make the time to find the problem and fix it dear), I realized that they must be in the bed under the tarps and figured it would wait till morning to look. The bed is under not one but two tarps, I stupidly thought that if everything stayed dry it would all be fine. I never even thought that the heat generated under there (dark brown tarps) could be a problem... Not only has it gotten wet under there it has obviously done it several times and kinda sorta dryed and caused stuff to stick together with the summer heat etc....Remember those nice dyed door panels that I thought I would not have to replace the hard backing board on? they look like big grey potato chips. I've got plastic inner panels that were dyed and ready to go that will in a couple of cases need to be wet sanded and re-dyed as they had stuck together with the damp and heat etc. I found all this out this morning just before sun-up after a real drencher of a storm last night. All I could do before I left for work was to spread out everything on the patio to dry.....Rats! The only thing this day has going for it thus far is that it is Friday.

I won't be back over there till tomorrow... I will do what I can. I think the front brackets are here at the house somewhere in the shed, I will look...I know the rear plates are at the painters.

The goofy little gun they send you with the u-pol gets the job done I guess but certainly no more than that. don't bank on any real accuracy. Glad you are mounting the bar after the liner goes on, trying to get a good coat back behind the bar mounted would be a b!tch. Mask everything you are concerned with. WEAR A GOOD RESPERATOR this $#!& is nasty.... -

I sprayed them both with U-Pol (separately) I still have the original Vinyl(?) gasket sheet that goes under the mounting flanges for the roll bar. And wanted the clean install that shooting them separately would give. (especially if it is removed later). If I was going to say paint the roll bar and U-pol the bed.... I would still shoot the bed liner first before putting the bar in. just My 2 cents worth. I just put the roll bar back in last night and will bolt her up tonight...will post some pics by tmorrow. -
Wow! This is really looking great. love the rear bumper and tailgate. You have a bunch of really cool design features going on with your build.

Glad you were able to score these Troy. Hope you seal the deal on a way to get hem here without the obvious.
