  1. Got lights? Erik, good looking truck, just throw some center caps on those steelies and ur good to go. One of those tires is worth the 50 bucks--you got a great deal!
  2. I'd like to swap out my three speed auto tranny for a four speed. Will an AW4 mate up to my 1986 2.8L V-6? Other 4 speed automatic options for the 2.8L? Thanks.
  3. Show off your wheels! I'd like to see some different wheels and see how they look on the truck. Its always good to see how wheels will look on your truck before you buy. Please give size and type--OEM or aftermarket. Thanks. My '86 "X" wheels--pre-restoration factory 15' steelies (my favorites) with Goodyear Wrangler RT/S 205/75/15: Post-restoration factory option 15" Turbines with Michelin CrossTerrain 225/75/15
  4. Looks like you changed the instrument cluster with a full guage cluster. I want to do that in my '86. I'd appreciate any info you can give on that project. Thanks
  5. Primer? Amazing, it looks silver in the pix and looks good with the blackwalls and rubicon rims.
  6. I bought mine at the local Jeep Dealer. They had to order them but they came in a day and I don't recall that they were very expensive.
  7. I'm with Randy in Maine when it comes to street tires. My build sheet says 205/75/15 which was the size on when I bought it. I went up to 225/75/15 but the truck feels top heavy and doesn't handle or corner as well. I'm going with 215/75/15 Michelins as the best compromise. I understand the need for tall tires offroad and I get the appearance thing but for a good handling daily driver, smaller is probably better.
  8. That's a rare beauty with the straight body and good accessories. Great color too. Just wondering if you had to change out all the sensors when you swapped in the full guage cluster. That's my next project for my '86. I've been told the idiot light panel uses analog engine sensors that are different from the full guage cluster sensors. Keep putting up pix as your project progresses.
  9. It is hard to explain or even divine a rational for putting the time, money and labor into keeping them alive but in the final analysis it's just a "do anything" great old truck that really has no peers. I have some good choices for a daily driver but gravitate to the MJ most mornings for my daily grind. Maybe it's the uniqueness, the driving feel, the utility or just the pride you take in having a rare truck you have put a lot of yourself into (nearly three years in my case). My much maligned 2.8L V-6 with 104,000 miles is smooth, peppy and gets better gas mileage than many new trucks. A good carb rebuild by an experienced hand with OEM parts works wonders and adds to the enjoyment--if you have a 2.8L and havent done this, shame on you. And, after all...it's a Jeep!
