April 2024 - Eureka's Pioneer Metric Ton
Salvagedcircuit replied to 89 MJ's topic in Comanche of the Month (MJOTM)
Excellent looking truck! Nice job. I went on a 600mi round trip in November with my brother. It made him want one -

What on earth is this abomination -
Very neat to see the comanche venturing into other regions of the americas

That is pretty cool. My favorite concept was the Quadratec JTe, minus the goofy oversized roll bar. The rest... excellent. https://www.thedrive.com/car-reviews/quadratec-gladiator-jte-review-specs-price-options-impressions https://www.drivingline.com/articles/quadratec-jte-a-gladiator-built-to-tread-lightly/

I did not think there was a high idle option for renix. I thought that came about with the chrysler control electronics.

It looks mostly plastic, so you have a good candidate for an audio RF based device A friend of mine put a wifi router in a metal cabinet and then continued to complain that his router was crap. I then proceeded to tell him about Faraday Cages

I hear you! I'm thinking of doing the renix bored throttle body and maybe down the line experiment with dual electric 10 blade fans. I'm not going to experiment with HO swaps unless my front radiator blows up, then I'll consider migrating more over to HO components. I added some more info to the post above. The bracket idea is pretty neat actually. Spacers don't seem to have a major impact either, so it's a pretty straightforward solution.
-
From what I remember reading, the best way to convert to HO but keep renix controls is to: -Install HO head -Install HO intake -Install HO throttle body -mechanically adapt renix TPS to HO throttle body -adapt renix throttle linkage to HO intake with new custom bracket -give up on EGR because there are no provisions after 1991 I do remember @BIGMASSmaking a renix to HO spacer out of a block of metal. At first it looks odd, but it's actually a neat solution. Technically, if you have a bored renix throttle body, it should outperform a stock HO throttle body (60mm > 58mm).
-
It will not fit. The renix intake manifold uses a 3 hole mount with 60mm hole. Stock throttle body is 52mm. HO intake manifold is a 4 hole square mount with 62mm hole. Stock throttle body is 58mm HO intake manifold can be opened up to 68-70mm according to newcomer racing 96-98 4.0L intake:

It would be interesting if someone found a document stating the "rebuild" procedure. My guess: replace the electrolytic and tantalum capacitors, re-silicone it closed and ship it.
-
This would definitely be some interesting information to know. The PO must have installed a rebuilt ECU in mine, but it does not say mopar anywhere on it. I think it was done by cardone, or whoever they farm it out to.

That thing looks sick. What a beast.

Awesome project resurrection! Welcome back

Stellantis is a poor curator for Jeep. The head of Jeep, a historically very American brand, is from Fiat in Italy, which is an odd choice. Carlos Taveres, the head of Stellantis is completely indifferent to US customs as Stellantis was the only one of the 3 three traditional Detroit automakers to not halt production when the Detroit Lions won this year. More importantly, they are currently pushing out US design and engineering. Firing 400 engineers over an automated video call is incredibly low brow. Stellantis is truly no longer a Detroit automaker. I hope the US government does not give them anything when they go bankrupt, I just hope Jeep doesn't get purchased by BYD / Geely / alphabet soup foreign company. Otherwise, I will not be giving a single penny to Stellantis for the foreseeable future.

1988 Comanche "Frankenjruck"
Salvagedcircuit replied to H3ADBANG4L1F3's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Are the patches welded in or bonded? its hard to tell from the photos. I found wire wheeling helped a lot to determine the floor panel strength. It opened up all the floor pan pin holes. -

Do you happen to have a photo of this? As a column shift owner, it would be cool to know. Thanks! -
What exhaust do you recommend?
Salvagedcircuit replied to ExpatMJGuy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I just looked. I'm glad the rear tail pipe and muffler are still available. My tail pipe is definitely in need of replacement, It's nice I don't have to get something custom made -
@coheed Nice! I just saved some old equipment from the scrap man. Not a lot of weight this time, but it sure made the trip easy. The guy I picked it up from used to have 4 comanche's! Bonkers.

@RenaultAlliance awesome photos thanks a bunch -
You are the right kind of crazy. Hats off to you I can't wait to see whatever you post. Best of luck

The mounts for the tan inner door trim on my comanche were broken off, making the screws just spin in place. I actually repaired these inner broken plastic mounts with old laptop keyboard caps. Any ABS will do, but that was the easiest thing I had around. A soldering iron and abs works a treat. It smells a bit, so do it outside and with a mask. I have some photos on my other computer.

John Q's 1989 Jeep Comanche
Salvagedcircuit replied to JohnQ's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
How do you plan on repairing this? I noticed the exact same issue on my drivers side rear of the cab. I don't exactly know how to fix this. Option 1: open the seam, wire wheel it, spray paint it, seam seal it and hammer it back together. Option 2: wire wheel the seam, apply an acid etch chemical with a brush and a syringe, wash it off with an alkaline base, dry the seam with heat then paint it and move on. Option 2 sure sounds like a more promising idea. I really hate to have to tear the seam open. I just don't think it'll ever go back together the same. -
You didn't know? @fiatslug87 secretly owns the one comanche that has climbed both Mount Everest and Olympus Mons.
