  1. I thought that some preferred the RENIX for a stroker, as it has a knock sensor.
  2. I do have a burgundy or 'Cordoba' dash, I have taken out. I am swapping out for charcoal or grey and trying to fit in a GC dash. Anyways, a bit far as for shipping, and might be a few weeks before I can look at stuff.
  3. I think there are two versions of the Isuzu axles. I forget the year break. The older ones from what I have read use standard Dana 44 parts. Someone did a writie up on what parts will work with the 'newer' Isuzu axles. I think there is even a 4.54 ratio avalalbe, but no disc brakes on it. I am planning this swap myself. I have the front Waggy PS drop and the Isuzu. Also 3 Isuzu aluminum rims. Need to figure how to cover that logo with a Jeep logo. I plan to keep the coils etc. Hope to have some time around spring. I keep saying that for the past 10 years though.
  4. I did buy from Hells Creek years ago for my MJ. I got springs ect. for the front from a posting on a Jeep forum. Then I ordered from Hells Creek for my XJ. At least for that spring they carry RC. I was planning on using a Ford 8.8 with 4:10 and 31"s. Mines a manual. I am now going with an Isuzu Dana 44 with 4:10 or possibly 4:30. I'll probably go with 33". The Isuzu has 6 on 5.5 and rear discs, like the Ford 8.8. The stock Comanche brake cables should work on the Isuzu. I think GC brake cable would work for the Ford 8.8. I am fairly sure I bought a 4:10 Isuzu. I figured the gear spread of 3:09 (manual) vs 3:55 auto on 28" tires matches 4:10 on 33"s. vs 4:10 on 31"s for an auto.
  5. I think the '88 had the BA1/5. I though you could pull the tailcone off the tranny, and saw off the extended shaft. Then bolt on a TC. I didn't go that route as I wanted a stronger Trans, NV3550.
  6. If up to 33" and auto, then the Ford '88 would be my pick. Sounds like you will need to regear anyways. On stock gears 31" are a bit sluggish. Maybe find a Dana 30 with 4:10 at a PnP. Mine is manual and I'll have 4:10 and probably 32-33". I have two 16 inch Isuzu rims. Easier to get tall thin tires for a DD driver. Doing the same with my XJ. I should have a complete set of 00-01 16 inch rims from an XJ soon. GC have a selection of 16 and 17 inch rims.
  7. I'd say it depends on what extreme you are going to see, ie tire size and street or trail running or serious offroad and rock crawling. I am going with dana 44 front and rear in mine. I did plan a Ford 8.8. The Dana 44 rear is from an Isuzu with 4:10s. I needed to go that way as to I am going with a Dana 44 from a FS Cherokee passenger drop. So a 6 on 5.5 (??). The Isuzu matches that. I went with the passenger drop so I could run my exhaust straight back. So, then I needed a Dana 300 TC. Still, back to your situation, tire size would be the determining factor in my opinion. Not to experience though in wheeling and axle strengths. Still as I see it to 35" tires the D44 should be good. To 38" the Ford 8.8. The Ford has a few options, limited slip usually and disc brakes usually. You could add disc to the D44 with Libbys or GC, possibly Fords. The other is the cost of rear gearing. Could find a D30 with 4:10, but usually not cheap. So, at this point it is cost of regearing vs install cost on the 8.8
  8. I dig #2. Don't like the rims though. It would depend on condition and quality of the build though.
  9. I have it in a spots car. Hi temps etc. I haven't run the car in a long time though. I put it in in the late 80's early 90's. Temps run higher. Suppose to be drawing out more heat. No sure I'd use it in my XJ's or MJ. OEMs probably don't use it for cost. Also, can't add water in an emergency. There are other fixes to cooling temps in the MJ/XJ.
  10. Crash, Where is your location?
  11. From what I read, the JCW are for 'each'. So double the amount. Maybe I am wrong. I looked at Hellscreek for the MJ. I bought a set years ago. I haven't installed them yet. But I looked at the website $229 (?). I did get a set for one of my Xjs last year. 4-1/2, they were made in China. They were arched for probably 6 inches. They never settled. Actually, that is a sign of a well made spring, to my understanding (Tune to Win, Carol Smith ref). They are Rough Countries. Edit: He does give a discount to Comanche Club Members
  12. Also, there was a revision to the crankshaft bearings in the '00 and '01. That is why you will see them listed separately from the 96-99 blocks in interchanges. I did have a '00 block etc. in my home garage. Bought it cheap, everything but the head. Sold the dealership an '03 head. Engine didn't run right (cam lobe wiped out), so I got the motor except the head. Went into neighbors former DIL Wrangler. About 3 motors to make one. Anyways, I didn't see anything different exterior wise.
  13. Not sure on all the nuts and bolts. If you use an earlier head, then you also have to make brackets to adapt or hold in place the coil rail.
  14. Its been a while since I did a timing chain. As I remember, with the chain tensioned on one side, ie rotate assembly to have the slack on one side and without a tensioner, there should be no more than 1/2 inch side to side. Or is it 1/4 inch. Less is better though. There will be some.
  15. [Edit: I looked at Rock Auto again. 06 Commander Rear Left is 51.5 inches. Mines stock height and will not be lifted more than 2" when I'm done with it. I appreciate the searching. And Hornbrod, thanks! Great to know to add those shoes and hardware to the parts list. About the same length, so should work. I do have an XJ lifter 6 inches in the rear. The stock e-brake cables work for me. So, lifting 2 inches shouldn't be a problem. I'll be lifting my MJ 4.5 to 5.5, I have the springs from Hells Creek and the fronts. So, I think the '06 Commanders should work for me too.
  16. The ends on the e-brake cables are a bit different for disk, than drums. Some loop the cable around the attachment to the disk brake. OPs MJ stock or lifted? I did look at E-Brake cables for XJs. 87-96 use the same length brake cables. I think GC cables will work, but a bit longer. 97-up are two different lengths. I think KJs will work on one side and GC the other. I don't have my list with me. I went through Rock Autos site as they listed lengths. I'll see what I can find. I looked. MJs are 52 inches. I didn't see anything in Jeeps. I think some use Ford Explores on latter XJs, for the long side. I did look at Ford Contours. They list 57 inch length. I have two new ones at home. I'll try and look at them. Edit: I looked at Rock Auto again. 06 Commander Rear Left is 51.5 inches. Edit: Ford Contour will not work. It has ends more like drum brakes would have.
  17. Is yours an Automatic Trans ? Replacement radiators will have an auto trans cooler built into them. They are usually sufficient for most driving. Also, you would be in a cooler climate. Now you can add an auxiliary transmission cooler for several reasons. One would be if you plan to do some or a lot of off roading, or even a lot of city traffic. You'd be doing a lot of low speed so not a lot of air flow through the radiator. The fans will help thought. Another is to extend the life of the transmission and the fluid. Reduced fluid temp will help longevity of both fluid and transmission. It should also help if you have having a hot running engine. I am planning to add an Aux trans cooler to one of my XJs. Might add one to the other, but I am selling it. You can do a search. Also, if you are replacing your radiator, you might think about the HD version for towing etc. I think it is a two row. There are other versions out there. I have the DPG 3 row on mine. Some think the 2-row Modine is as good or better. There are other products that might offer better cooling, but more $$. Tom
  18. I think there are two lengths of water pumps or hieghts. At least for XJs. So need to match with the old one or could change the pulley to match. About '03 the bolt pattern changed. As for water temps, don't forget to replace the radiator cap. Might also try a Robert Shaw or I thinm Mr Gasket HI Flow.
  19. Pat, I should have one sitting in my garage. Its not perfect, but should be good. I'll check. I get up to Indy usually on the weekends. Tom
  20. Have you lloked at the Pick n Pulls in Indy. There are two of them. I was at both about 2-3 weeks ago. A bit thin on latter Cherokees. There were no Comanches at either. Do a seach on Pick n Pull Indy and Pull a Part Indy. I think there was only one latter model Cherokee at Pull a Part. Usually they have some Comanches, but not that time. Tom
  21. I have a set. Its just the brackets, not the rails. $40 shipped in the US. I also have a set of red Comanche bucket seats. Bad apolstry though. Tom
  22. If from a Cherokee, then your brackets from the bench seat will work. I do have a set of brackets, but not the rails. Tom
  23. I think I have seen articles or studies, that cell phone use is as bad or worse than drunk driving. I think texting would be a lot worse. I don't know if the insurance companies could negate their coverage if an accident was caused while texting or cell phone use. Germany does or at least use to put the blame of an accident on a person if they were not using a seat belt. Tom
  24. I was in PA over the Holidays. There was a pair of red bucket seats in a white Comanches at Joes PnP, in New Ringgold PA. Nice shape. I was going to pick them, but the front nuts on the drivers side were rusted bad. The bracket still looked solid. I didn't see any major rips etc. Looked very very good if cleaned up. There was a set of Cherokee 2 dr seats at Harry's. Gray. Also, a newer 2dr in another Cherokee. Tom

    bucket seats

I have a set of red buckets. The vynil is cracked in many places. I also have a set of GC seat that can go with them. I think I have $100 on all 4. I am about 1 hour south of you in Hope IN. I do make it up to Indy on most weekends. Tom
