Not quite as cool as your find, but I’m a happy camper
-
They will be a great addition to the truck for sure. They need some cleaning and one small repair to the vinyl, but otherwise appear darn near perfect.
-
Ok, I suspect that the rough idle would be an IAC or TB needing cleaning or the TPS needing adjusting. These trucks definitely are a hobby. They can be very reliable, but it usually takes a while to get them sorted out completely. And just about everyone on here has something they want to fix, update, or change on their truck, even if it appears to be done.

It should have bumped the horsepower from 173 to 177. I can’t say for sure what model year it come from, but I wouldn’t be surprised if 88 and 89 shared the same part number.

Wheel hop? Tire rubbing sound slow left turn

That toe is a big factor. You should be toed in between 1/16” and 1/8”. You might have to pull the diff cover and see if you have a limited slip or locker in that front axle for some reason. -

Montana Manche Restoration

Very nice! There’s at least one member who bought brand new AX-15, that seems like a very good route to go if you’ve got the budget for it. Otherwise, a local tech school might be able to rebuild one for you very inexpensively. The gold on gold is going to look fantastic! The Mrs did very well on the photos- 57 replies

And I see you got your roll bar now too. The original paint looks pretty good on it. I think I’d consider redoing the graphics, polishing the paint, and calling the exterior good. Especially with what paint costs. For the drivetrain, maybe an AX-15 and a stronger rear axle. I’m looking forward to this build in whatever route you take it.- 57 replies

Truck of the year poster

Unless you count Pete’s wall(s) of NOS -
That was my reaction too. The only way it could’ve been better was if the buckets were 2 door XJ or MJ ones
-
They’re very, very dirty, but I found a person parting out an 89 XJ with Navy interior. I grabbed the seats, center console, and tilt steering column with 3 spoke steering wheel for $200. And the steering column has a delay wiper and cruise control turn signal stalk. Pretty happy with that find. Can you tell I don’t have roommates with the parts in my living room?

I would check the alignment with a tape measure quick to make sure the toe is close. -

Does this happen at all speeds? If the tire is rubbing on something, you should see a bare metal wear mark or a black mark if it’s rubbing on something plastic. -
Emergency Brake Release With Quitar String
89 MJ replied to jamba's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
I believe that you need to cut a hole for it. @Gjeep might have handbrakes in his trucks, he might be able to confirm. -
All of the bolt holes should have bolts on them, I would think. Make sure there is no debris or a broken bolt in those holes. Thats a big chunk! And those vacuum lines are better than nothing
-
This is the way my dad taught my brother and I on the cars he has built. Put the paper in, shut the door, then try to pull it out. Works well.
-
Correct, the valves are not adjustable on the 258s. Does the computer control the timing too?
-
Looking very good!

Ok. Sounds like your oil light is caused by not having the sender in it. That’s a pretty easy fix.
-
The passenger side of the block near the oil filter is where the sender is. Pull that sender and verify with a mechanical gauge to know what your pressure actually is. How long did you run it for? The oil filter needs to fill up to build oil pressure, but that should only take a few seconds. What kind of oil did you use? These trucks called for 10W30 when new, make sure you used something at least that thick.
-
You’re welcome! Otherwise @krustyballer16 has some in the vendors section.
-
Make sure you get the brackets with them. They are under the bed and bolt to the frame. I bought a whole truck to get my roll bar.
-
Even if it needs some work, it’s not like it would be easy to find another.
