In my XJ that I swapped a 242 into I didn't have to do most of the above. I believe most of this is due to Novak updating their design. I did lengthen the cutout for the shift gate in the bottom part but not the top, I'm not sure it was necessary. I didn't have to cut the threaded rod or mess with the cable adjustment in the brackets. I adjusted the 2 ends of the cable a bit, but the real trick was moving the shift lever to it reduce the swing needed (Novaks new design has 4 overlapping circles so I didn't have to drill anything).
Thanks for this thread for that last bit, now I can get into 4L reliably, or at least for the half dozen times I've tried in my driveway tonight.
