College Budget 1987 MJ Build

The more I think about this swap, the more stuff I’m realizing I’m going to need to figure out... I need to decide on a shifter and maybe figure out the wiring to get the 242 to make the lights on the dash light up, maybe I’ll need a harness from a Cherokee with a 242? I don’t know Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Alright, I know the TJs are clocked a little different, I’m assuming a YJ is clocked differently as well. How much floor hammering needs to happen to accommodate the 242 tcase? In my Cherokee I actually drilled the back of the trans to clock the tcase flatter and had to hammer the floor, but how much larger is the 242? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Are the tow mirrors a generic style mirror? Or are they Comanche specific? I feel like a lot of old trucks had that style tow mirrors. I’ve seen the brackets in trucks, but never the mirrors. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well I ended up getting a 4wd ax-15 today so I may end up 4wd swapping it if I can get a cheap dana 30 and a cheap 242 transfercase as well. Since I don’t need 4wd and it’s just a want I can’t spend too much on it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I got the rod, the Jack and the crank for the Jack. All I have is a picture of the spare tire release/lug wrench right now. I can get a picture of the Jack and crank later
-
The Jack is the easy part since it’s the same as Cherokees, the hard part is the “tire iron” which is the key to lower the spare. I personally have only seen one in the 10 or so Comanches I’ve seen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I could definitely get you some shafts here and ship them. Probably like $40 to get them there since it was like $20 to GA if I remember correctly. There’s a guy who had a few pairs of shafts last time I bought parts and he usually gives me a decent deal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The transmission comfort switch? It’s the same as a fog light switch or cargo light switch. I don’t have any at the moment, but I should have some more early next week. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

They’re out there, just gotta get lucky. Got mine for $500 a few years ago. Could get a $1000 Jeep and sell the drivetrain to get to your $500 goal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I started acquiring street signs, flea markets, friends, junkyards, and there’s a guy I always get a sign or two from when I get Jeep parts from him. I have way too many now, but I’ll keep getting them because they’re cheap and interesting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

making my own custom seat covers and visors
SatiricalHen replied to Jesse J's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
For the right price I’d be interested in a bench cover. Been meaning to get mine reupholstered, but been lazy/cheap. I’d also like to add headrests, but that most likely will not happen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
anyone want to trade a black front end with a chrome front end.
SatiricalHen replied to Jesse J's topic in Wanted
I don’t know what the deal is with the pictures ending up upside down. I took the pictures right side up haha. There are screws along the bottom of the chrome trim pieces. If I remember correctly you have to remove the headerpanel to remove the bottom chrome trim piece. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Plopped another engine in my Cherokee and now I’m just waiting on IRO to get my leaf springs to me. I had been using RE springs that I got used and beat on them for years. Then I decided IRO springs looked decent. That was a joke. Their 5.5” springs and a 1.5” shackle netted me less than 4.5” RE springs that were spanked with 1.25” shackle. 1 year after putting them on I was sitting at 2.5” on one side and 3.5” on the other side when it should be close to 7”. Started the warranty process on the 16th of December and I’m supposed to be getting the new springs the 5th of January. When I talked to them on the 16th I made it known I was trying to do a ride on the 1st and I’ve had to call numerous times and it seems no matter what they’re in zero rush and don’t care. I understand it’s the holidays, but things still could’ve been handled better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I painted the headlight surrounds with black matte spray paint. I used rustoleum spray on Bedliner on the lower body line of my Cherokee and it’s done great. -

Just scuff the mirrors and spray paint them black. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Intermittent wiper upgrade
SatiricalHen replied to Comanche1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I hate tilt columns and love my fixed column. Nice and tight, no wiggle. Right where I want it to be. Everyone told me to column swap but I refused to. The switch in the column is unique to fixed column vehicles so a Cherokee or Comanche with a fixed column and intermittent wipers. I’ve seen a few in my days junkyard searching and one of those is in my truck. You have to basically take the whole column apart to get the switch out and it took a couple hours to do the whole swap on my truck, but definitely worth it. The black box under the dash can come from any Cherokee/Comanche with intermittent, but most don’t work so very hit or miss. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
So I am collecting parts again.....
SatiricalHen replied to watchamakalit's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I always buy the dorman bolt kit when I do manifold stuff. It’s like $8 on Amazon I think. Dorman 03408B. I have tons of those semi circle washers from various 4.0s I’ve disassembled and would be willing to part with some if anyone needs some. They’re used, but still solid. I grabbed a few wiper nozzles today, send me a message and I can send them your way Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I believe they should be the same as Cherokees. I can grab a couple next time I go to the junkyard if you’d like probably going in the next few days since my mom needs some parts for her Jetta. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
