Boy is my face red. Faux Pas, Mia Culpa, whatever. I was offered a wrecked Lexus for free, just get it out of the guys yard. Don't know why but I was thinking Lexus=Chevy. Just found out it's Toyota. Had visions of a new engine in a '86XJ I got. Moderators.Don. Could you please delete this post and save my spotless reputation from any more embarrassing ridicule? :fs1:

Anybody know if the 3.0 engine is 60* or 90*?
-
Don't have a 96 FSM. Do have a 93&'94. Shows a 25 amp CB located on the head light Sw. Hope that helps. Reread the post. No it doesn't. The Chilton manual shows a 15 Amp fuse in slot 7 on the fuse panel. Chilton also shows the break was between 1995 and 1996.

Open Header On A Newly Rebuilt Engine
jimoshel replied to comanche1989's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I believe the biggie here is the possibility of cold air blowing back up the header and cracking a exhaust valve. Possibilities;1. Tow the MJ to the muffler shop. 2.Run the engine for the required time to seat the cam Have a way of blocking off the header opening. Bucket, can with a wire to fit over the end of the header. AFTER shutting the engine off. 3. Drive it to the muffler shop 'as is' and don't worry about it. Easy for me to say. Not my truck I would prefer No 1 because with a muffler you can hear noises from the engine better. -
Receiver Hitch/bumper
jimoshel replied to Jeep Driver's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
One neat looking bumper. I would really suggest extending it out to the end of the fenders. You know that one day you're going to back up into something, or somebody is going to rear end ya. -
2 Wheel Drive To 4 Wheel Drive Conversion
jimoshel replied to redwolf624's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
1991 2.8 from a Chevy S10, 1996 AX5 from a 2.5 '96 XJ. 231 transfer case, I have no idea what it's from. I think a '88 XJ. Going into a '86 MJ.. and yes it all fits. -
Clean your ground connection and make sure it's tight.

OK.. I'm convinced. It's axle mod. Tnx for the input guys.

I was leaning to the gear swap but wanted to hear from someone who's been there. WANTED TO SWAP; 1 D35 with 4.10 gears straight across for 1 D44 or 8.8 with 4.10'S likes to dream.

Got a '90 MJ up on blocks i'm doing a 4WD swap on. 4.0, AX15, 3.07 D35. The donor for the axles is a '96 XJ 2.5, AX4, 231, 4.10 D30, D35. I'm keeping the 4.0, using a AX15, 231 combo from a 3rd vehicle and using the two 4.10 axles. My question is, is it easier to modify the XJ D35 to fit the MJ? Or would it be easier, better, to keep the MJ D35 and swap the gears? I've swapped gears before but never swapped or modded a rear axle. :dunno:

2.5L Engine Plug Question
jimoshel replied to Bornindesert's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It's close to a 20 mile drive for me to the auto parts store. I was in a hurry so I cut up a tin can and wrapped a strip around the end of a 3/8 drive extension. It worked. -
:agree: I was 48 when my daughter, and only child was born.I wasn't around her when she was growing up. I now have 3 Grand kids ages 4, 11 and 14.All girls.I don't have the foggiest idea in H*ll what to get them so I just send them a check, a card and a short note.

Don't like Rocky Mountain weather? Wait 5 minutes. It'll change.

Never noticed any difference in power between the 6 and V8, but never really pushed either one of them. Seems like the 42 - 44 series transmissions goes out more often than the AW4.I've swapped 3 of them in the last couple years. I prefer my MJ, then the XJ. Yhe GF prefers the WJ.
-
That's what I kind a thot. Was looking for confirmation.

How does the AX15 stack up against the two oldies, Muncie 4 spd and BW T10, strength wise?
-
Not really. Removed the bolts holding the bell housing to the engine and pulled the whole thing out. Then removed the bell housing. Didn't think to take a pic until I had already separated them.Although I do keep a selection of hammers handy, as well as a cutting torch and a sawzall.

Pulled a transmission, AX15 from a '90 MJ without hurting myself. Look Ma.. No blood, or bumps.

So turn yer light bevels upside down. :brows:

Gee guy, Sorry. My condolences. There'll be peace in the valley..........

Sometimes I feel like I've replaced just as many new parts that were bad as I've replaced old parts that went bad. I won't install a new part until I've checked it first.
