Did you check the safety certification label on the driver side door pillar?Occasionally you will find one still attached, that hasn't fallen off or is illegible. This tells you the GVWR and the GAWR, which will tell you if it's a MT or not. If it is a MT it came with 4.11 axles. Check your VIN. If the 8th digit is a F,G,H or J then it is a MT. Also if it came from the factory with a 2,5 then it could have had either the AX4 or AX5

You should have 3.55 differential gears, then. That'll help with the torque multiplication. Noticeable difference in how far the wheels will turn? Never noticed any but then I wasn't looking for any. Gonna pay closer attention next time I drive them and see if I can notice any. Also one of the MJ'S is a '86 with the fabled 2.8 and 3:54 gears. Just a bit sluggish of the line but not enough to bother me any. I think 3:73 would be just right for that combination.

You're good. Drop by sometime. I've got a couple MJ'S you can apply your magic touch to.

I have two MJ'S and a XJ with 31's.One MJ will rub the LCA on a tight turn. The other MJ and XJ has no problem. Never worried about it or checked it but now I'm wondering if the stops might have something to do with it.

Column Swap Question! Please Help!
jimoshel replied to Silvergun's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I do. Got a pile of them in the way so I stumble over them when walking to the shed. -
I used 'gass to repair a 2"X6" hole in the floorboard of a '65 CJ5. It held up for 12 years. That's when I sold it so don't know how long it lasted. Primary job was cleaning, removing neutralizing the rust.

It's the same lady. The second pic is what she looked like before I broke her heart and she took to food for consolation.

A Copy Of The Parking Brake Recall?

OK. So now all we have to do is get every MJ owner to go to their nearest dealer and demand service! -
A Copy Of The Parking Brake Recall?
jimoshel replied to XJs4Ever's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So now all we need is a copy of the recall. Can you imagine the ensuing consternation at Jeep,Chrysler, hdqrs if EVERY MJ owner in the country showed up at a Jeep dealers service dept demanding satisfaction? Or a new Jeep. -
Before? or after you drink it?

3 years ago when i first got my DD, a 87 I noticed it losing brake fluid. I confirmed that the master wasn't leaking so decided it must be the slave. At first i had to top it off after 6 months. Then a couple months. Then every month. Then twice a month. I just topped it off again today. Third time this week. My question,,,,,Should I replace the slave ? or just find a cheaper source for brake fluid? :hmm:

I have a 1987, 1989,1996 and a 1998 4.0 engines sitting side by side. Just looking at them I can not see any difference between the head bolts. For what it's worth.

Egr Valve On 2.5L Not Working
jimoshel replied to mdwatson's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Any body here besides me Google 'Oyaji' Interesting. Altho the avatar did give a clue. -
Looking good. When looking for parts be sure and check out some of the older Mid '30'S to early '50"S trucks. International especially as many of the parts interchanged.

That .s what I was counting on, but with these dern things you never know. Didn;t want to go thru the trouble of pulling another TC if it wasn't going to work.

Will a 231 from a '94ZJ , 42LE and a 231 from a '98XJ AW4 swap? I've already got the '98 out and laying on the ground. The '94 is still in the Jeep. :dunno: :hmm:
