  1. It's possible to have white sludge in the engine oil and there isn't a thing wrong with the engine. It's condensation from the atmosphere. To many short trips, starting and stopping the engine and it just isn't getting hot enough to burn off the condensation, sludge. Check your pcv valve and thermostat. Short trip less than a block? Walk.
  2. Got to be the most over rated member in the club. :hmm:
  3. Cherokees make great donor vehicles.
  4. Apparently you were the first.
  5. Well, Hell.
  6. Do you have to use a CO2 tank? Or can you have a propane tank filled? I don't have any CO2 tanks. I do have a couple dozen propane tanks. :hmm:
  7. Looks nice. I just slide a piece of cardboard down between the radiator and grill.
  8. To get back on toplc: Friends don't let friends sell there last MJ.
  9. Any body interested in the proper way to set rivets, or just wants to learn something new may I suggest the following books. Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics. Published by The DOT, FAA, EA-AC65-9 Aircraft Inspection and Repair, DOT, FAA EA-AC-43.-1A&2
  10. Another example. Back in 1969 I was using a towbar to tow a '53 Jeep station wagon behind a '65 Dodge 1 ton. I felt the Dodge had enough weight to handle things. Left front tire on the Jeep blew. Both vehicles ended up upside down in the median. Speed was a contributing factor here. Every time the Jeep swerved it pulled the Dodge a little farther sideways until just lost it and we rolled. Totaled both vehicles. Did receive partial reimbursement from the insurance co of the tire shop. After showing proof of purchase from them.
  11. On a side note, one of the reasons, if not the main reason, rivets became so popular was during the war. You have heard about that haven't you? It's in all the history books.Skilled labor was hard to come by. You could take a newbie off the street and in 10 minutes, with adequate instruction. have them setting rivets. You're certainly not going to train a welder in 10 minutes.
  12. How can anybody resist an offer like that? Easy. NO!
  13. Never researched it but based on personnel experience, you have better control in case of tire failure or loss of control with a trailer over a tow bar or tow dolly. Did you ever see a jack knifed tow dolly with a MJ on it after a panic stop? Not a pretty site.
  14. It's been a couple years since the last time I used any and I'm sure they've come out with newer and better stuff since then. I'll let one of the other members more up to date answer that. For simple repairs you can't beat JB weld. Also EpoxE is pretty good stuff. Just don't inhale the fumes. Checked the log book. The last adhesive I used to replace a panel on the Piper was 3M350. B/A. You'll rip the aluminum to shreds before you pull it apart.
  15. I have done several repairs using adhesive-rivets. Primary strength and bonding was with the adhesive. Primary purpose of the rivets was to hold the pieces together until the adhesive had set avoiding the need for C clamps, vice grips.
  16. Properly applied a rivet joint can be be almost as strong as a weld, Stronger than a poor weld. What do you think they used in the aircraft industry for years? I can't remember the source or exact number but seems I read the b-24 Liberator of WWII used over a couple hundred thousand rivets in it's construction.
  17. I feel the 2.5 is an excellent engine and is more than adequate for normal, everyday driving. This coming from and old school believer of cubic inches rule. I think I'm one of the first guys around to stuff a 472 CI Caddy engine into a CJ5. My DD is a '87 MJ with the 2.5 and a AX4. I consistantly push it down the highway at 75-80 MPH and get 17-21 MPG.This is just the truck. Minimal load on truck, no trailer. If you have a 2.5 that is not performing the way you think it should follow the above offered advice about checking CAT, intake filter, etc, etc.
  18. HOLY SHET! That was one of the first tricks taught me when I was first learning how to weld. Forgot all about it until now. Never to old to learn, or remember something forgotten.
  19. Let's just say that we're in communication with each other. Frankly I don't need another one. Posted it in hopes another CC member would.

  21. I've always found what I needed at the JY. However if you really can't find what you need, try the plumbing dept at the building supply center or hardware store. Check out the rubber hoses for garbage disposals washers, dishwashers, etc.
