I violated two of my own most stringent rules here. 1. Never get rid of any old parts until I've got it back together again and running. 2. Never assume anything, especially when dealing with unknown parts. Always double check.

I pulled the AX15 from a '90 MJ 4.0. Sold it to fella looking for one to rebuild. Pulled another AX 15 from a '90 XJ 4.0 Same year, same engine, same tranny, should be a direct swap Right? After trying for a couple hours with no success I finally pulled the tranny back out and started checking. Not having the old to compare against I finally got around to checking input shaft dia, bushing dia. 3/4 vs 9/16. OOOOh kaaaay. Checked the part number on the tranny. 53009529. '93 XJ.Somebody swapped trans in the XJ. I actually believe I invented a couple new words.
  4. Daily ride alternates between a '78 HD 1200 and a '76 Honda 750 Got a '52 Ariel sguare four and a '45 Harley WD for back up.
  5. I've never been hit by a car but I did T-Bone one once. Pulled out from a stop sign in front of me. Still got a steel rod in my left leg and a permanent limp from that one. And yes, I'm still riding.

    Yep!
  7. My little sis sent this to me. She said I was the first thing she thought of when she saw it.
  8. Don't get me wrong. Not a avid Denver fan. Just the closest thing I have around here. My little bro, from Denver, dropped by during the game. I tried to bet him a $100 that the chargers would tie it and win in the OT. He wouldn't take me up on it.
  9. Read the Topic Title. That says it all.

I was thinking of pushing the trans forward after getting it up. My days of laying on my back. lifting the tranny up onto my stomach, shimming under the Jeep, then lifting the tran up and in and holding it there with one hand while getting a couple bolts started with the other are over. Working in the dirt. not a cement floor makes it a little difficult maneuvering a jack around. It was just watching that ram move back and forth gave me the idea. Work smarter, not harder. EDIT; It's not the first dumb idea I ever had and I'm sure it won't be the last.
  11. I don't see how it could. However being a Jeep I wouldn't rule it out. A stuck thermostat could do it.

Anybody ever considered the possibility of converting a log splitter and making a transmission installer tool out of it? After spending 2 days trying to install a AX15 into a '90 MJ, I was out this morning splitting some firewood. The idea came to me. Remove the blade. Mount the splitter on a adjustable table. Just a thought.
  13. 2 inches. measured 4 towers, Also the shift lever is longer like the the one you have with the wooden nob.
  14. That's repairable. assuming no major frame damage. Check what the P&P wants for individual parts. Then see if you can't find a similiar body.Should be able to pick one up less drive train for $400. Get some of your money back selling what you don't use for scrap. Make a very careful check of the frame for damage. If any, then scrap it.
  15. Couldn't you have just told them you lost it? And then sneak it home stuffed down your pants leg?
  16. You don't. You crimp them.
  17. So which teams cheerleaders have the biggest boobs? er,, I mean the most challenging routine?
  18. Wonder if maybe he could just take a wood rasp, or coarse sandpaper and just rough it up a little bit.
  19. Take some JB weld, or epoxy, which ever one you're more comfortable with. Build a small ridge around the tube. You know what it looks like. Try to duplcate it as close as possible.
  20. In 1956 I installed the Clifford intake manifold and trip Webers on a 261 GMC. The Jimmy had the head milled and a 3 way valve job. It was otherwise stock. I could only notice a power difference in a narrow RPM range, 1200-1500 RPM. By playing with jets and timing I could move this power range up and down with the best performance being around 3500-4400 RPM range. I believe if I had played with different cam grinds and ignition systems I may have picked up a little more HP over a wider range but don't really think so. Playing with the cam would have netted more HP but over a narrower range. Frankly I wouldn't swap a good working EFI system for a carb any time. Correction. The carbs were not Webers. They were Strombergs. Don't know what I was thinking.
  21. 1. Was married to the same woman for 44 years. She had just turned 14 when we met. 2. Over 400 exits from a A/C while in flight. 3. Couple thousand hours PIC, SEL and glider 4. Some of the best sites in the world for 4wheeling I've been were marred by the threats of mines and iud's. 5. Served in the Army Airborne. Air Force and the Corp. Sorry Don. Just never made it to the Navy 6. OK One over, probably owned over 50-60 Jeeps. Tried counting but just can't remember them all.
  22. Never thought to Google it. Good reading. Now I'm wondering why I'm messing with a internal slave when I have couple external set ups. Looks like I'm going to change horses in the middle of the stream.
  23. I have a 6 amp trickle charger and a block heater tied in together with a cord going out under the radiator to the front bumper. Plug it in to a extension cord from the garage. It helps on really cold mornings and makes life easier for the Jeep.
  24. I'm replacing the slave cylinder, or trying to. They got the correct cylinder in the package but the wrong instructions. The two plastic, nylon? straps holding the cylinder compressed. Should they be cut, removed after installation, or not. Does the first clutch operation break them? '90 MJ, 4.0, AX15. The book just doesn't say. Tnx in advance, Jim :dunno:
  25. That was me, before I took Dale Carnegie's course on 'How to win friends and influence people'. ;)
