  1. Tnx Don. I tried doing it that way and couldn't get it to work. Glad somebody around this place knows how to make things work. I did call the guy. We talked. Nothing definite yet. Just talk.

  3. I first read this two hours ago. For the life of me, I can't come up with a smart @$$ answer.
  4. Received a package of bottle stoppers from Ben this afternoon. Cheapskate. Just stoppers, no bottles. If you're looking for a unique gift for that hard to please relative, or just want something unique for your own collection, may I suggest you drop him a line. Actually he sent me four of them. I put the fourth one on a bottle of my own white lightening I cook up. It ate it. Tnx Ben. Love 'em.

  6. I think he means the dipstick under the hood. Not the one behind the wheel. Steering.
  7. In the old days, notice I didn't say 'Good old days' Before MPI and TBI there were carburators. Sugar made it up past what passed for a filter and the carb and into the combustion chamber very easily. I suppose another advantage of fuel injection.
  8. Never trust the sniffer of an ex smoker. Just get a second opinion and don't worry about it.

    Topper

Just picked this up a while ago. $20. Perfect fit. Got to decide now which one to paint so they match. The Jeep or the topper. Might just do both. Don't like either one of those two colors.
  10. Nice start. On a lot of the older jeeps you will find some one has replaced the engine with a newer one but converted it to the earlier configuration. This way they don't have the need to swap wiring, sensors, etc, etc, associated with the newer engine.
  11. What sugar does is burn with a very hot flame. It will melt the top out of the pistons and weld what's left to the cylinder walls.
  12. Gasoline has a odor. A dummy may not notice but anybody else would. If I remember correctly water is heavier than gas so if you were to pour 1/2-1 gal of gas on top after filling the can with water. Another thing to consider. The revenge factor. After he figures out what happened he may want to get even. Sugar in the gas tank. Nails under the tires, etc, etc. You get the idea.
  13. The cheaper I get something, the more I gloat.
  14. Had a '87 That was hard to start. Took a half a dozen tries to get it going. Ran great after it started. Was the main reason the PO let it go so cheap. $200 and get it out of his yard. New set of plugs fixed it right up. Haven't had a problem with it since.

    Fuse Box Needed

Do you just need the fuse panel, with the wires cut off 10-12 inches, or do you need the the whole harness?
  17. History was one of the few subjects I always got straight 'A'S in in school. I loved reading history. I was totally fascinated reading that. Thank you Pete, very much for posting it, Again. Jim

1952 MB. 293,5** miles on it. Ran as good as the day it left the factory. Was looking forward to it turning 300K. A drunk pulled out to pass and nailed it. The wife was driving. Hard to read but that's Colorado historical plate on it. Issued to any vehicle over 25 years old. Pic was took in 1985.
  19. Yep. That's it. Got two of them in two of my '87's and one one of my '88.
  20. One of the other guys on here might be able to help you better on that. I do know that very seldom did they change over at years end. Usually they made changes mid year meaning early '96 would be different than later year '96. The only way you're going to tell here is by tail housing, output shaft set up.
  21. I've heard that also. However every one I've ever checked was the same year on the tag and the vehicle it came out of. The tag date stamp is the year the TC was made. I don't think they stockpile them and use them 2-3 years down the road. I believe it's accurate enough for government work.

You just buy a new sticker every year. Stick it on the old tag.
  23. I believe the date of manufacture, month and year, is stamped on the ID tags. January, 1998 March, 1998 1985 The numbers to the right and just below the attaching screw.

I give up. How do you spell 'Saskatchewan'? :rotf:
  25. Take lots of pics. Mark or label everything as you remove it, Baggies is a big help here. Memory is a funny thing, You start putting something back together again, it's amazing what you've forgotten. Why is everything I'm typing underlined?
