I've seen this truck, and it's even more impressive in person! -
OK thank you.

Are we talking ECU or TCU here? Any advantage in different year TCUs? I don't own a Renix Jeep, but this is interesting to me as I like to go to the pick-n-pulls when I can. Sounds like 89-90 ECUs are worth pulling.

I have a separate project that involves replacing these valves. My plan to cross reference the part and determine if a newer part will work or if the part is still used on current cars. Then get some from the junkyard that are like new for a few bucks.

I was at the PX back in Dec, bought myself a new tv. A kid who worked at the PX was wheeling it out for me. When he saw the truck he just stopped dead and said, "holy s**t, you have a Comanche". He couldn't have been a day over 17. He said he had a Cherokee and I said so do I, they're great vehicles. He stood in the parking lot to watch me drive off. Btw, a 70" tv fits in a swb Comanche bed, lol.

Jeep XJ MJ OEM AM FM CD Player Mopar 82300393
schardein replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Great find! I love awesome ebay deals. I recently installed a Kenwood KMM-BT312U. It does not have a CD player, which is ok because I listen to my IPod 99.9% of the time. The cool thing is this stereo is only about 2/3 as deep as a regular stereo, which allowed me to put an Alpine KTP-445U amp behind the stereo for 45x4 watts rms. It really is a great setup for me, but your factory CD player is a win for cool factor! -
pre bent hard break lines
schardein replied to NorthWoods's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
A friend of mine built a hot rod and used pre-bent stainless steel brake lines. Don't know where he got them or what brand. But he did say after it was done he discovered several of the connections leaking. He went back and tightened them again and they still leaked. He thought it was because the stainless steel was harder, and not "forming" to the flare inside the master cylinder and wheel cylinders. He actually took them off, and heated them with a propane torch to cherry red and then let them cool in an attempt to anneal them and make them softer. A few still leaked and he actually ended up ordering some pre bent lines but in regular steel to replace them. Solved the leaks, and he said he would never use stainless steel hard lines again. He then gave me a full set of pre-bent stainless lines for a CJ7. I've still got them but I've been hesitant to use them. Would be nice to hear someone say they had no problems. -
Anyone seen one of these?
schardein replied to schardein's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It didn't have the underhood light. Which surprised me since it had so many other options. Of course it could have disappeared over the years or even at the yard. -

But this was on a XJ. I got the VIN, run it by Chrysler and see if they list a factory security system as an option? But your picture looks very close to what it is. Same location, probably the same part as far as the switch goes, just no bracket. Also, it did have the keyless entry module in the overhead console. -
1991 2 dr XJ in the junkyard. Highly optioned, 4.0, auto, 242, power everything, overhead console, rear limited slip (at least had the tag on the cover for no slip fluid). It had what looks like a "hood open" switch. I've never seen one. I was thinking it was for an alarm, maybe aftermarket, but the switch bracket and switch and wiring all look factory. This is the pass/front of the engine compartment. Fender is removed but the bracket uses the factory holes and appears factory painted.

The initial one in this post came from Fort Leonard Wood, MO where I work. It sat in a "make believe" neighborhood used for military police training. By the looks of it, I'd say it was used for something else prior to that. I've noticed people do weird things at auctions (2,600?). Someone would have to pay me something to haul that thing home.

SEM brand vinyl paint. It's spray paint. This stuff is awesome. There were two other products to use with it, one was "sand free" and the other I think was "adhesion promoter". It's been years ago but redid my Blazer interior and the SEM stuff was just flat awesome on plastic. Never tried it on something like seats, but hard plastic or metal items in worked great.

Nice! Next time I will video!

My MJ is my lowest mileage vehicle. 219,xxx on the XJ, 274,xxx on the Silverado, and 330,xxx on the CJ7. Only thing left original on my CJ7 is the frame, steering column, and a few brake lines.

I wish I could find a speedometer that matches mine with the trip odometer!! I see you have an 87, mine is a 91, so they don't interchange. All my searching indicates they don't exist. To get the trip odometer for 1991/92 one has to go to the complete gauge cluster with the red numbers instead of blue.

1991/92! Not to hijack, but how do you like that rear suspension setup? How much lift do you think it amounts to? Pics?

Interesting stuff. I've often thought it would be nice to rekey/replace lock cylinders so my XJ, MJ, and two CJs used the same key. No door locks to worry about on the CJs, just ignition...

What are these plugs for?
schardein replied to D Standard's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You can add a w/s reservoir from the equivalent XJ application that has the level sensor to your MJ and plug in it. Add a bulb to the appropriate socket in the indicator panel to the left of the instruments, and you are good to go! -
They are out there. I pulled one out of an early XJ. It has cv style axle shaft joints (cv boots completely hashed) which I have never seen before in a XJ/MJ.
-
Some later model XJs used the NV3550. It is comparable to the AX15. I don't know specific years. I adapted one for use in my CJ7 out of a late model XJ and it bolted up to a 91 XJ motor. May open up your search pattern to include later XJ manual trans 2wd.

No Start. Fixed distributor was cause
schardein replied to daking's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Got my XJ for $400 because that sensor was bad. Discovered the different later model distributor while searching parts at the junkyard. Grabbed it and a spare late model sensor just in case. Took me a while to diagnose because PO had pulled the bulb from the check engine light. When I finally discovered that and replaced it, got the code and did the fix. Been meaning to grab one for the MJ.- 9 replies

Fuel rail/ regulator help
schardein replied to Sir Jacob the 2nd's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm more familiar with the later HO setup, but I googled some pictures and looks like there is an o-ring where the regulator attaches to the rail.
